ThunderCookie
As I go back and forth on whether the whole bounty thing is a major issue or not, I had a realization. The whole investigation started mainly because of the abuse that Farve took in the NFCS. A lot of articles I have read refer to the high low hit on Farve. But there was no flag on that play. Now think about that. The play was so severe that it prompted an NFL investigation into the Saints on an orginizational level, but the ref that watched it happen had no problem with it. And even though the NFL admitted later that a flag should have been thrown, I never heard of any punishment for the ref that let it go.Fans of every team complain about officiating, but there are times when you are left scratching your head after a game. You feel almost positive that refs were almost rooting for the other team or maybe just against you. But that would be silly... right? And I am not talking about the whole "Saints-Katrina" bs conspiracy theories, so please don't paint it in that light. But we have all seen it. Almost every team has gone through it.And I am sure every fan has at least one example for their team. I go back to when MV was on the team and we lost to Chicago. There were two identical plays. Once Jenkins was hit as he caught the ball and it was called a fumble. The second a Bears wr caught the ball, made a step or two, and then lost ball. That was called an incomplete pass. But it makes me wonder, if it was so obvious, then why should the NFL dump everything on the Saints and drag them through the mud when it is their own officials that have compromised the integrity of the game? Trouble
Both should be investigated. The Saints have admitted to it so we know they are guilty. The ref is harder though. That would mean the NFL official refs where wrong and allowed cheating to happen and missed calls. Why is that a prob you ask? Because it clearly says the saints should have been flagged and they won that game under false pretenses. Meaning Vike fans as well as other team fans would probably demand the Saints be stripped of the Superbowl win. Not just have players/coaches fined/ suspended and or loss of draft picks as punishment.Keep in mind the Superbowl will be played there. Basically if the NFL admits fault then it could face a huge backlash and then you have to get into tampering and betting and such. Which would be very hard to prove. But to the fans once that cat gets out the bag, there will be no way to get it back in. The media and fans will demand the saints be stripped of the Superbowl. It will get messy for everyone and the fall out a lot worse. That would probably end up in a Congressional hearing. Its just easier to punish the bounty system, the cover up, outside money etc etc etc and everything else the Saints are being found guilty of.... leaving the NFL looking clean in the matter.Saints keep their ring (while tarnished)the NFL keeps the superbowl thereNFL passes new rules (they wanted)NFL gets 1 step closer to 18 game seasons. ThunderCookie
I agree with you, and I know it is impossible. That is one Pandora's box no one truly needs or wants to open.I would settle just for the media to stop trying to brow beat fans into submission on the topic. Trouble
It should slow down for a bit... in 21 mins when Manning is released and becomes a FA. Thats all the media will talk about at least for today.

jb 3.0
Simple......HIRE FULL TIME REFEREES! No more of this, "I'm an attorney, but on weekends I work as an NFL referee so I can make ends meet. Chasing ambulances all week takes it outta me and I need a rest, plus the pay is okay".

ThunderCookie
Too many words? Lack of consistant sentence or paragraph structure? Or is it just the fact that it reads like a cross between a 3 year old Mad Lib and a spilled box of Alpha Bits?
