iDash
Why is everyone so down on Decoud. I think he is worth 6yrs/38mil. He is solid and I do not see anyone better than him in FA, on our roster, or coming available in the draft. What do you all want to do? Not sign him and risk going with some cat we dont know or that gets injured? If the Muscle freak out of Washington signs for less -the one I wanted,it was bad,if not,I like it!We've had wayyy worse than Decoud in the past thats for sure
FalcoChicquera
Depends on the numbers. If it really is 6 / 38 then I think it's a mistake. If it's more like $4m-$4.5m a year then it makes some sense. If it's Nicholas money (5 / 17.5) then it's a good deal.Until we see numbers from a semi-reliable source there's no way to know
jfalconsp
I don't dislike the re-signing, but I would definitely dislike the 6 yr/38 mil contract if that is what it was. For 2 mil more a season we could sign Lofton and I would much rather have him for that money than Decoud. Considering that was a BS number somebody threw out there, I'll wait to hear the numbers. Also, 1989fan, I know it isn't my money but I care because it gives me some insight as to what direction the team is going in the secondary based on how much they give him. delaigle
Stop posting this. Everyone and their mother knows that these rankings mean absolutely nothing. Moore and Grimes are both top-25 in my mind, and DeCoud is middle of the pack. That being said, there is nobody better than DeCoud in the market right now so unfortunately we must stick with what we've got.Oh I concur with your assessmentBut it bothers me that actual numbers are considered meaningless and I must stop using themHowever the phrase "DeCoud Suks" is taken as the truth from the Gospels without challenge Edited March 6, 2012 by delaigle
Lord Sarcomere
He takes THE worst angles one could possibly take. I'll reserve judgement though because I want to see what Nolan can do with his abilities.
Steel City Falcon
I like it. I knew he was coming back. I think a lot of people underestimate DeCoud. Yes he makes some bone head mistakes but he also has played very well at times. Not every team has an Ed Reed or a Troy Polamalu type of player at the safety position. The fact is DeCoud is a starting quality safety.
Rai
Week 1 - 4: 43 yards given upWeek 5 - 10: 298 yards given upWeek 11 - 18: 26 yards given up Aside from a rough few weeks mid-season, he was absolutely dominant in coverage. No other starting safety gave up less yards from week 11 onwards than DeCoud. The guy is close to being a pro bowler, just a couple things he needs to get sorted out and I have no doubt in my mind that Nolan will iron out those small creases in his game. He's made several game changing plays over the years. Two that stick out to me is the sack + FF on Brees for the defensive touchdown and his 4th and goalline single-handed stuff on Blount deep in the 4th quarter, someone that runs through and jumps over people like nothing. He'll be a star and we'll have a fantastic safety tandem for a good few years.
Falcanuck
Oh I concur with your assessmentBut it bothers me that actual numbers are considered meaningless and I must stop using themHowever the phrase "DeCoud Suks" is taken as the truth from the Gospels without challengeHe is great in run support, and is probably top-10 at his position in stopping the run, however, he is an extreme liability in the passing game. I remember when I was at the game vs. the Packers this last season and as soon as I saw DeCoud man on man against Jones (I believe it was) it was obvious where Rodgers was throwing as they scored something like a 60 yrd TD. Nolan will help DeCoud.

jfalconsp
Safety Thomas Decoud's new deal with Atlanta is a 5-year, $17.5 million base package, including $4 million in guarantees money. Via Schefter. NOW this is a good signing.

slamee101
Good deal. Who in the h*ll said 6 yrs./38 mil. again? Should have known that was BS!
Big_D
Lol...we can only hope!My hope is that Nolan can perform miracles. DeCoud was never a true first stringer in my opinion.
jfalconsp
Good deal. Who in the h*ll said 6 yrs./38 mil. again? Should have known that was BS!lol it was Dharma. And yeah 5yr/17.5 mil is WAY more reasonable and actually constitutes a good signing I think. Shores of the FS position with relatively no risk to us if we decide to find a better option down the road.

Dem Birds
Our defense just stepped backwards 8 steps. the worst decision among the signings so far.Clearly the biggest problem in DeCoud's game is angles and decision making... That's bad coaching. DeCoud's game can be fixed, he's already a solid player that just has some lapses in judgement. He's judged far too harshly around here. Any mistakes I've ever seen him make it was taking a bad angle or getting himself out of position to make the play. Very fixable. Nolan can do that
