delaigle
I'm not surprised. DeCoud is not the best around, but this offseason has zero better options available in either free agency or the draft. Hopefully this is a short term deal so we can see what he can do with Nolan. If he improves then good for him and good for us, if not then next year offers one of the deepest safety draft classes in years. In The NFL.com rankings of DBs DeCoud is ranked as the #10 FS Edited March 6, 2012 by delaigle
1989Fan
I want to see the numbers on this deal.what does it matter, it isnt our money.I am sure once they come out everyone will complain about it anyways.I guarantee has was paid as a starting safety, so everyone will be complaining if it isnt 1MM per season.I would guess 4-5 years, $20-25MMI would rather have DeCoud than pay 2x as much for Griffin, who is no better. This should put any Landry talk to rest as well. And Sanders had his chance to unseat DeCoud and couldnt do it.Honestly DeCoud started off good, had a bad run of 3-4 games, and finished strong as well. Xx FaLcOhoLiC Xx
Decoud was 3rd in tackles on the team with
Duff_Man
Our defense just stepped backwards 8 steps. the worst decision among the signings so far.So keeping the same guys is taking "8 steps back"? At worst it is taking no steps in either direction. We get it. You don't like him. But don't let it make you ********.
Psychic Gibbon
In The NFL.com rankings of DBs DeCoud is the #10 FS listedEither that just goes to show how thin the league is at FS right now or they don't do the best research. Either way, DeCoud has potential to improve but just seems lost in coverage far too much. Hopefully Nolan can help him with that.
slamee101
potentially good move.... Decoud has the talent/physical tools... Its all mental with him..... When the benching pressure was on him... The guy stepped up....Mike Nolan specialty is the DB's.... Lets see can he tap in his potential. Also i didnt see a big upgrade in FA or the draftI tend to agree. I complained about DeCoud like many at times but he was not as bad as many are claiming. He was up and down last year and I do wonder if it's mental b/c I was sold on the kid after '09. Hopefully he can get back to playing like that.
HouseofEuphoria
I dont wanna hear any more BS about "We need change!" and "We cant just keep doing the same thing over and over, it's insanity!"The re-signing of DeCoud (and Antone Smith, for that matter) are stupid moves. This is exactly how i knew it would go down. The coaches changes were needed and we got a proven upgrade in Nolan, i'll give em that. But the player personel is where we are going to drop the ball.Next, we'll lose Lofton just to save a buck. Then we'll lose Abe, but sign some cheap FA DE who is about the same age, but half as productive.I'm really not sure the FO is watching the same Falcons team that i am.DeCoud, really? 1989Fan
if that is the correct number, it doesnt suprise me one bit. I figured 5M per, but safety pay is going up big time. Just look at what Weddle got last offseason!

Guest TheIdowu
dont really like the move but willing to give him ONE year due to Nolan. he has all the physical ability in the world, with zero sense. maybe Nolan can change that with proper coaching. Guest Fibonacci
bad choice. wouldve rather played Sanders. Decoud is sorry.you do realize Sanders did get hurt last year???you can bet Sanders will be signed again as well. in fact I think Sanders will be signed for a three year contract. isproab
He has starting experience. I honestly don't see many options at safety since there are so many other needs. You can still bring in somebody and it does not hurt to have DeCoud back as a backup.
Guest TheIdowu
If that's the real numbers, i'm gonna blow a fricking gasket. It would be no use because blowing a gasket will not change anything. Chill out man; it aint your money. lol
Guest TheIdowu
Why is everyone so down on Decoud. I think he is worth 6yrs/38mil. He is solid and I do not see anyone better than him in FA, on our roster, or coming available in the draft. What do you all want to do? Not sign him and risk going with some cat we dont know or that gets injured? Edited March 6, 2012 by TheIdowu
Radiohead
I like this too, if nothing more than for a depth-based reason.Hopefully, we got him to sign a pretty meager deal.We definitely need to bring Sanders back as well though, one/two year deal. 1989Fan
you can bet Sanders will be signed again as well. in fact I think Sanders will be signed for a three year contract.I will take that bet on Sanders all day long. They wont put 3 years into him. He came here for a 1 year deal to get his name back out there to be a starter. He had his chance in ATL, and the team made a new deal with DeCoud. They arent going t give Sanders the money or opportunity he wants.
