What Kind Of Punishment Is Right For The Saints And Lets Be Real Guys.

Recommended Posts

I'll say this is going to be a tough call for the NFL manley because they have to send a knock out blow to the Saints and make sure that nothing like this happens again.

1. - There image of the the NFL looks bad when they are allowing things like this to happen this is nearly as bad as throwing a games for money maybe evn worse considring you could end the career of another player which they did. And I'm refering to the "late hits" with the intent to injur a player then collect on it and in my opion it really wasn't about the money but the pride the Saints players would take in that they made the play that put the QB out of the game.

2. - This is maybe what will hurt the Saints more than anything else is that they were told to stop and yet they didn't they continued to allow these things to take place. And now there about to get blow from the comiss that may knock them from Contenders to just an average team with a very good QB (kind of what they were when Drew Brees frist arrived there)

3. - The thing that the NFL is worried about besides there image is that players that felt like they were targeted can take legal action now aginst the NFL because the NFL knew the Saints were doing this. Just for example take Kurt Warner he could Sue the NFL for Millions knowing about this bounty thing now and he was targeted because the hit on him caused a Concussion and lead to the end of his Career and thats what worries the NFL. And on another note I believe that they may have also knocked Christian Ponder out of a game last year on a late hit as well.

4. - Punishment- What kind of punishment should they get? I think to start it was going to be extreme anyway but then throw in that the Saints were told stop and they didn't thats just down right stupid kind of like the gamble that payton did aginst the colts to start the 2nd half of the super bowl.It does feel good to say payton will finally get burned for one of those bone head gamble's plays he's always calling.

The Punishments I would dish out.

2 year suspenion for Greg Williams with out pay and a 1 million dollar fine

1 year suspenion for Sean Payton and a 750,000 fine and no contact with the team during the suspenion - Payton knowing that this was happening and did nothing to stop it they have to come down with a harsh punishment on him.

1 year Suspenion for GM Mickey Loomis and 750,000 fine and no contact with team during the suspenion - Like Payton Loomis knew that they were told to stop and knew these things were happening and yet did nothing to stop it.

2 million dollar fine for Tom Benson Saints Owner or for the Saints which ever way you view it.

Now hit them were it really hurts

Take 2012's 2nd and 3rd round picks as well as 2013 1st rounder

And Cap hits of 10 million in 2012 5 million in 2013

As far as the players involed I really don't know how or what kind of punishment should be dished out to them if the NFL can prove it. Which there have been artices wrote saying they can prove it but what type of punishment for the players. I read there could be up to 29 players who received money over this bounty thing. I don't think you can suspend 2/3 of there defense and still hit them with a cap hit so thats were it gets tough.

As much as I wish that would happen, I feel like everything will be about half.

Taking away the draft picks you mentioned, a 1 year ban on Williams, 6 months on Payton, probably nothing on the GM but maybe a fine. That and cut all your fines in half. I could see those being appropriate cap hits though.

Although I like what you're thinking, I doubt its that extreme.

I think Payton could get a year suspenion two because he had the hole drug thing not that long ago

Realistically, this is probably accurate, but for a truely ironic punishment, I would love to see their draft picks distributed rather than simply removed.

2013 1st-given to vikings

2012 2nd-given to falcons

2013 2nd-given to bucs

2012 3+5-given to panthers

2013 3+5-given to cardinals (b/c of warner)

...or something like that. I know it won't happen, but feels more like justice to me than simply voiding the picks.

Oh, and I wouldn't be surprised if they also shorten their cap to make up for the money on the side.

30 mil cap hit this year or distributed through two years. That will show every team cheating breaking the cap or coach's going behind the scenes to interfere with league policies for personal gain.

We should not hurt younger guys by making the draft pool smaller they did not cheat.

The team as I see it cheated on many levels and that should be delt with by reprimanding the entire franchise.

Young guys being drafted should not have to suffer.it's not fair. What is fair is FA suffer by not letting the owners know the organization and the ppl that pay them are breaking rules that affect the team.

This is the best opportunity to instill this philosophy league wide with players to owners and everyone in-between.

This way it is a self governed system a check and balance. Hurting young players and fines that coaches can afford is not the answer. That is a slap on the wrist and punishes young kids. Hit them where they didn't expect them. Salary cap.

To be honest it seems they accepted every other punishment as acceptable and why shouldn't they. More wins = more money to pay fines plus a longer career to cover. 1st rd draft picks are risky and more of a liability than a sure shot. Taking it away doesn't sting to bad unless you are in the top 10.

I believe Goodell will impose long time suspensions with the coaches involved along with big dollar fines.

The team will have a big time monetary fine as well as draft choices lost for 2012 and 2013.

Some players involved will be suspended.

This is just logical to make a statement about player safety.
