Rev_Hal
First off, we probably all know that this kind of garbage exists. My thought is this - If Goodell does not completely throw the book at the Saints coach, then all of his rhetoric about player safety will be exposed as BS. this is not a Saints thing or a NFL thing - this is criminal activity. People go to jail for paying people to harm others, and this is no different.I don't care who this clown coaches for - he needs to be out of football. If this were a Falcons coach, I would be calling for his resignation.

All this players fines for "illegal hits" and fining/suspending players for giving the NFL's image a black eye will be brought into question if Goodell dont come down hard on them. C'mon Goodell, the whole NFL world is watching. Whatcha gonna do?
Swift&Change
My 1 thing is against CBA and incentives and bonus . Darren Sharper got 1 mil contractswho is to say now Saints franchise and management didnt sneak $$ to Sharper under table to get him to come to Saints . If they were willing cash bonus for hits and knock out playersis it against logic they gave Sharper $$ under table to go there
Rev_Hal
agreed. What do you consider "the book?"Personally, I would turn the investigation over to local authorities in DC and NO. When you pay people to injure others, it is a crime. The guy would definatley not be working in the league if it were up to me.

Williams and the players involved needs to be suspeneded indefinitely. Payton and the GM needs to be suspended atleast 2 years with probation. Flying Falcon
Can we suspend Brees for 2 years as well? LOL!!!!!!! Honestly, I dont know if Brees will be totally effective if Payton isnt calling the plays. Will Brady be Brady if Bellicheck isnt coaching him? Only time will tell. Swift&Change
Brees was fine with Carmichael serving as HC/ Play caller

Payton and the GM needs to be suspended atleast 2 years with probation.Dang, man. That is harsh. I would suspend Williams indefinitely and fine him $500,000. I would suspend Payton for the entire 2012 season. I would probably have Loomis step down as GM of any organization for a specified period of time. If I am Benson, I may even fire Payton and Loomis before the commish even gets his hands on them. However, the commish should at least do the above. Guest TheIdowu
Oh yea, I would definitely suspend the players involved for at least half a season and fine them the maximum allowable.
Diesel_Bird
It's one thing to have personal bets with other players regard ints and fumble recoveries/sacks and things of that nature, but calling for players to be injured is completely different and uncalled for and shameful. freebird310
Meh, back in the day this was common practice, I mean it does not break my heart to see the Taints damaged, but to me it is just more puzzy BS from the ultimate Puzzy nanny Roger Goodwell .....I mean , like bountys have never existed before ? ....... ..........but I am sure the media is just loving it ....... Guest Fibonacci
I agree. I would be all in for firing the coach's for paying players to hurt others.I am fine with promoting game changing plays, etc. but I will never like it when I see a big hit that results in hurting another player on purpose. I understand accidents, but when you do this on purpose it is uncalled for.
Falcon Man™
I question the professionalism of a player who needs that sort of boost to do his job well.

There was a time where boxing was king, it has almost died out due in part to the injuries that can come from it and the lack of people willing to participate in that sport because of the injuries. Football is no different, within a generation or two it could be a side attraction like boxing. The NFL and NCAA know this which is why they're coming down on things that increase the odds of these injuries.

MattRyan2Canton
probably gonna make the players or at least should make the players do PSA's on concussions for free on their own time.

ltstorm2
The bigger issue in my opinion is that they were warned and didn't stop. Regardless how you feel about the "bounties" they were warned to stop doing it and they didn't. Its kind of like a stoplight in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere. Even at 3 AM and without a single car around if you run the redlight and get caught, you're going to get a ticket.

If you knew the history of boxing you'd understand how closely tied it is to the action of the NFL/NCAA and how they're approaching player safety. You can LOL all you want but it's the truth. delaigle
Kind of a great thought --What I like is the "go to jail" partthey can't send the payer (coach) to jail without sending the payee{actual offender}(player) to jail alsoHow many saints players would they loose??Ha Edited March 5, 2012 by delaigle
Diesel_Bird
I believe these "bounties" have all the intent to hurt other players. Otherwise it doesnt make sense to me that a player would need an incentive of say 1500$ to make a good au. Shouldn't his contract worth millions be enough and the goal of getting a win be enough incentive?

For the past couple years, everyone has known Mayweather vs Pacquiao is the biggest fight available, by far. Yet it remains unsigned. That's part of it as well, you'll notice I said in part due to the safety of the player/boxer is the reason it faded from relevancy. UFC and MMA is far and away more safe than boxing ever was, even with the padded boxing gloves. Any sport that has repeated head trauma has to ride a line between entertainment and safety. The NFL/NCAA know this and saw what happened to boxing, they have too much riding on their players to let them get blown up repeatedly. In particular over a insignificant amount of money like a bounty.
