ol'_dirty2
Yeah it's dirty, but the shock value is just not there. To me, this amounts to finding out that a big time college football team has been somehow paying recruits or providing some illegal services to them. But the fact that it's the Saints, the potential repercussions add the shock value for me. The potential loss of draft picks excites the story for me. If they just get fined and a couple of suspensions, I will move on from the story like it never happened because that doesn't entice me (unless year long suspensions). Just my 2 cents Edited March 5, 2012 by vel
Smiler11
I think this thing is gaining traction - especially when you have 3 potential future hall of famers as alleged targets (Favre, Warner and AP).I can't see how Greg Williams doesn't get at least a season long ban. Payton might get away lightly, but there will be suspensions to key players. I'd also expect the organisation to get some kind of punishment, as Vel alluded to, the loss of future draft picks. Magic Man
From everything I have read from Schefter and others is the punishment could range from 4-8 game suspensions for players and Peyton. Williams could be looking at a season, or a lifetime ban, depending on the findings in Washington. Also, they are looking at losing the 2nd and 3rd, possibly the 4th and 1st next year for this. Everything I keep hearing reported, says Spygate was light compared. Goodell has to make an example of them, and with it being the Saints, it couldn't have happened to a nicer team. vel
It also helps that apparently they weren't making the best of friends in the league office either. I really hope Loomis is fired. He is one of the better GMs in the league and would hurt worse if he left along with draft picks. He blatantly disregarded the orders of the owner and as a result of his ignorance, brought this on the team. If Loomis shuts this down back in 09 like he was ordered to, the Saints don't get punished as severely as they are going to. It went from a Gregg Williams thing to a Saints thing because of it. To me, this amounts to finding out that a big time college football team has been somehow paying recruits or providing some illegal services to them.It would be much more exciting if Williams was still with the Saints. He's gonna end up being the goat in all this. Probably a lifetime ban.
