Falcons_own_nfc_south
NFL Network's Jason La Canfora confirms that Cardinals LT Levi Brown is looking "increasingly likely" to hit free agency after the sides made little progress in contract talks over the weekend.Brown is due a $17 million cap number and $6 million roster bonus on March 12. The Cardinals cannot afford to pay him, so a contract termination (release) is the inevitable outcome if no new deal is reached. Offensive tackle is the weakest position in 2012 free agency, so hitting the market might not be so bad for Brown. He'd have only Jared Gaither, Demetrius Bell, and Anthony Collins to compete with for the top spot in the class.
Herr Doktor
17 million? Wow.
Floyd Pinkerton
Well, you know the drill.Bring him home TD.
FalconFanSince1970
Forget about a top shelf OT or OG. Grimes at $10.6M plus the Mario boys wanna drop $14M on Mario. That will leave about $8-10M to fill the other 15 free agent spots just so we can field a roster.
hjerry
Forget about a top shelf OT or OG. Grimes at $10.6M plus the Mario boys wanna drop $14M on Mario. That will leave about $10m to sign the other 15 free agent spots just so we can field a roster. All of TD's contracts escalate. Mario's hit would probably be 8mil the first season maybe less, and as long as Grimes doesn't sign, we can still get him long term and then retract the tag. I think you're dreaming. Dunta Robinson had a $12M hit in year one.
Psychic Gibbon
I'd keep a close eye on this situation if I was TD. McNeill or Gaither would be nice pick ups but Brown would be great.$80-90M contracts don't start with a $8M hit in year one. I think you're dreaming. Dunta Robinson had a $12M hit in year one.I don't see how that is remotely surprising; He was signed in a non-cap year. You should see the hit the Bears took in the first year of Peppers' contract if you think Robinson's is bad.

We wanted his cap hit to be that big in the uncap year
atljbo
I dont think Levi Brown is the answer... He is a good run blocker but not so good vs the pass

We wanted his cap hit to be that big in the uncap yearYeah but his hits after the uncapped year are $6.5, 7.8, 8.8, 10.8 and 11.3. On a $57M deal. How the hail is Mario gonna be $8M in year one on a $80-90M deal?If yall don't like the uncapped year example how bout Charles Johnson's contract last year? Six years $76M with hits of $9.0, 10.0, 12.0, 14.0, 15.0 and 16.0. TD barfed when he heard about that one.Mario's 2012 hit will be at least $10M. Grimes' won't be much less. That won't leave much to fill the other 15 roster spots. Let alone sign top shelf OLinemen.

We front loaded his contract in a uncap year so our cap hit in cap years will be lower pluse we could cut him after year 3 in the contract and actually gain cap space. But yea.. I get what you are saying...One thing tho... TD barfed at that because he didnt doesnt value LDEs at that price... The blindside (RDE) rush in is valued higher... (TD hinted that in an article)I think we would pay a RDE10 mil a year or an Elite guy around 12 mil... But yea... I dont think TD will pay a guy more then that. kiwifalcon
JBO what do you think your guy Anthony Collins will garner in the FA market he is probably the least recognised out of the bunch. What do you think a good offer would be to put on the table for him to get him into a Falcons uniform???? So if we can negotiate a deal that cap hit could be significantly less. Edited March 5, 2012 by kiwifalcon

kiwifalcon
Probably around 4-5 mil a season if someone wants him as a starterSold that sounds quite cheap to me is it because this guy isn't a starting tackle I guess to get him for us he'd be a LT 4-5 mill just doesn't sound right to me

C'mon Bro he's all good you gotta have an opposing point of view I actaully like seeing what he comes up with next. But I also agree we can't stay on the same path personnel wise we need difference makers thats a fact its just the fact that a few of us want the most expensive one on the market. To me Mario is what he is and his price will reflect that.
