Is Nicholas Capable ...

Recommended Posts

Of playing MLB? He would be an upgrade from a coverage standpoint and he is a sure tackler. If we went this direction , we could bring in a couple solid vet LB's to fill out the corps.

Manny Lawson

&

Channing Crowder

Both combined would come cheaper than Lofton, and Lawson would be an excellent OLB in some packages

WLB:Spoon/Adkins

MLB:Nicholas/Dent

SLB:Lawson/Crowder

It's hard to project how guys would transition into a new position...

The thing is that the middle of the field is a completely different world than on the edges. You have a lot of big nasty men in that area and it takes a toll on you... Off the top of my head I can't think of any player around the leauge that has made that type of transition successfully, but I wouldn't be so short sighted to say that it absolutely cannot work...

How would you know that??

Grade: 81 | Key

Comment: Lofton has done an excellent job anchoring the middle of Atlanta's defense in terms of both play and leadership. He lacks prototypical height but has a great feel for the game and understands how to read plays and leverage his way to the ball. He is an explosive tackler that jars the ball carrier with hip explosion and aggressiveness. He is a downhill linebacker that can accelerate to the ball and make plays in the hole or near the sideline thanks to above-average speed and lateral range. He has tremendous instincts and is quick to pull the trigger and attack the play. He has improved in his pass drops, and while likely won't become a top man-cover linebacker he is showing the ability to read the quarterback's eyes and get a jump on the ball.

Grade: 59 | Key

Comment: Nicholas has provided the Falcons with good depth and can give them quality starts when called upon. He is a good-sized linebacker with above-average long speed and good short-area quickness, agility and body control. He can struggle when it comes to taking on and defeating blockers and is much more effective playing in space, where he can run free and make tackles. He is inconsistent when reading blocking schemes and locating the ball, though, and shows some indecision when it comes to going to the ball. He gets adequate depth in his pass drops but needs work on his route recognition and reading the quarterback's eyes to get a jump on the ball.

Nicu is not our best cover guy.. otherwise he would have been on the field on nickle situations... I would even say lofton can now cover better then nic

Nic is our best cover LBer... you will see Nolan will use him in the Nickel instead of Lofton if we keep him.

i dnt see wat u see.. but imo, he is an attacker, not a space guy.. he cnt loccate footballs and struggles in man... I think nolan will make him a primary blitzer

So you go by a scouting grade rather than go by what happens on the field. Do you realize just how many players prove these little grades wrong

That's why he was so highly sought after last season, oh wait he was unemployed

He's most famous for **** talking Rex Ryan

He retired. He's had interests from several teams before and after he announced his retirement. He was one of the best run stuffers in the league in 2010 and he's not a liability in coverage. He'd be a great pick-up.

2010 39 tackles 33 solo 0 sacks 0 fumbles 0 fumble recoveries 0 interceptions 2 passes defensed and a MASSIVE 1 run stuffed for 1 HUGE yard lost

So making 33 tackles with a single tackle for 1 yard lost makes you one of the best run stuffers in the league?

Yes. Look up any statistic website that tells you more than just listing numbers that never tell the full-story.

I can see why he had so much "interest" before he "retired". What a playmaker. The rest of his career is equally impressive

I wouldn't be surprised to see us bring in Crowder especially since he played for Nolan in Miami. Could see where him and Dent could via for the position. I am like the other guy though about Nicholas, reading a canned response grade from some writer doesn't mean anything to me. Some of these guys wouldn't really know our players from Adam. That's why we have coaches to evaluate the talent. wink.png

That being said I hope we resign Lofton and we wont have to worry about it.

Ya I'd rather have a LB who doesnt suck like Lofton, you can keep telling yourself Crowder with his 33 tackles and 1 tackle for a loss is one of the best run stuffers in the game, I'll go with the player who actually is

The grades came from scouts inc based on evaluating film. I posted it because I didnt feel like wasting the time explaining how stupid it is to move Nicholas who is too tall, too light and has never played MLB. He's not instinctive enough or physical enough for the position and would get washed out of plays.

Thats what I know from watching him play. How strange that the scouting report based on film said the exact same thing, that while Lofton is an excellent physical run defender, Nicholas doesnt have what it takes to stack and shed interior OL and make the play

Shocking

Its like Im a psychic or something
