vel
Brandon Brooks ran a 4.98 40, 1.71 10-yard split, had a 32" vert, and bust out 36 reps on the bench. A lot of us have been on this kid hard as our 3rd round pick to play guard. His 3 cone time was 7.34. At 6'5 346, he showed he can move. At the Shrine game, nothing got passed, around, or through him. He would add some much needed beef to the interior of the OLine.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/tony_pauline/03/01/pro.days/
atljbo
yup.... Looks like he will not make it to our 3rd round pick... We will most likely have to use a 2nd round pick on him.... If you are getting a Nicks potential guy like i saw while looking at Miami Ohio games.... Dude is worth that if you have to spend that.. He is that big mauler guard that we needOfcourse his numbers look better because its on their but it shows for a big guy he is athletic. We scouted a couple of Miami Ohio games
VaderMan
I personally do not want to draft an O lineman, there are proven quality O lineman in FA. Matt got killed early last year and we need t keep him clean and let him get comfortable and confident right from the gate! Sign Grubbs to play RG, and Mcneal to an incentive based contract that reflects his injury history.
g-dawg
I've been on Nicks BROOKS for Falcons 2nd/3rd rounder for two months now. I would take him in 2nd or 3rd - either one - and feel good about it.

hardenmj
As a Miami Alum i would be all for this...Finally give me a Miami (OH) player to root for outside of that trash QB in Pittsburgh.I can see why people are against drafting O-lineman, but I feel a lot of that sentiment is based upon our unsuccessful past drafts in regards to that position. Quality O-lineman usually don't reach FA because they are so difficult to find, and if they do hit FA they will be expensive. Have to infuse this team with talent on both sides of the trenches. Have to infuse this team with talent on both sides of the trenches.Falcons draft philosophy (judging by who they picked) through McKay and early Dimitroff regimes has been the Falcons have not put much "treasure" in the offensive line - highest pick a 3rd rounder - Mike Johnson. Of course Blalock was 2nd round pick but that was back in 2007. Falcons never seem to go for the BIG/PHYSICAL mauler types - i think this is about to change. In the Rich Eisen podcast, I heard Thomas Dimitroff say the Falcons were looking for players with GIRTH (aka big maulers) on offensive and defensive lines - never heard Dimitroff say that word before and I think it was a point of emphasis.I look for Falcons to go for bigger and more physical players in draft and free agency. Brandon Brooks fits the description.
atljbo
I would rather draft Brooks then to pay Nicks 8-9 mil a year... Yea Nikcs is more of a sure thing but i think you can find a good guard in this draft and spend that money on another position

We tag him for the year and we lose him fully next year. We'll have a real OLine for Matt and the offense. Then take Egnew in the 3rd. Then bring in a McNeil.. ill be happy and can live with that.I know ppl keep brining up Matt getting an extension but thats not going to happen no time soon
vel
What if we went Brandon Brooks at 55 and then took Mychal Kendricks in the third. He is a shorter MLB at 5'11, but he is still 240, which is still good size. Vilma is 6'1 230 and plays MLB. Kendricks is really intriguing to me as he has really good coverage skills and is a thumper too. He ran a 4.4, had a 39.5" vert, 10ft 7 in broad jump and did 24 reps on the bench (top 15 in the group). Edited March 1, 2012 by vel

Looks like a workout warrior to me I'd have to look at film on the guy.I don't think he'd be a MLB in the pro's I'm interested to see film and I'd look at how good he is at shedding blocks and diagnosing plays. jbrinson
I hope we do draft this guy. I'd rather draft and develop linemen then pay outsiders to come in and play for a couple of years

If we cut Baker/Ovie we save another 5.6mm. If we extend/restructure Matt, there is another $5million and we would be almost $42 million under the cap. I'm quite certain we could do all those things I suggest with $41million under the cap - with money left over for 3-4 other minor moves (like Bierrman). didz
Brooks has the numbers but my biggest question on him is how good is he? If he is a real talented mauler with good feet at his size, than I am all for using a top pick for him. I personally like the idea of Brandon Washington at RG. Davin Joseph clone. Falcon Fanatic
Either our FO sucked at drafting OL or we had ****** coaching. We are about to find out soon which it was. That being said, we have enough draftable projects to work on with Reynolds, Hawley, Johnson, & Jackson. If we are going to upgrade the O line then let it be through FA. It takes too long to get guys up speed for the O line unless they are a first round talent. I say pass on Brooks unless he is there later in the draft like the fifth round. If it was the SEC I'd consider him more of a cert wasn't Taylor Mays a pac 10 POY guy also but he hasn't turned out to be much chop in the pro's.Don't get me wrong I could be wrong on the guy I'd just like to have a look at some film of the guy is all. What you fail to see is none of these guys are HUGE, NASTY, KNUCKLE-DRAGGIN' MONSTERS - there is no Carl Nicks/Kris Diehlman type in the lot of them. We need to draft Offensive Linemen that dominate by their superior strength and size - Falcons don't have one guy on the roster like Brandon Brooks - not one.Brandon Brooks is such a player - his massive size, strength and agility will allow him to dominate at the NFL level - as long as he works at it and wants to be great. Falcons don't have that and Falcons have never really drafted that.
