What Will Nolan Do?

We all think we need some help on D and I believe that as well but there are a good number of guys that Nolan can help develope and fill our needs.

Dent

Sid

Adkins

Franks

Owens

Matthews

Jerry

At every level of the D we have a young guy that Nolan can work with. I want upgrades as well but i think when you bring in a guy like Nolan you can afford to see whay your young guns can do.

I think the focus should/will be making the offense as good as it possibly can be and let Nolan sort things out.

I have doubts about the ones above in bold.

Adkins i'm not too worried about. Good depth for now.

Owens..tbh i see waaay more talent in Walls, but the dude has faced adversity with the Falcons and come out a stronger player.

Jerry...here's where i see a big need to either upgrade or bring in serious talent to challenge for the starting role. Might use #55 pick here.

I agree on seeing what our young guys can do...but i'm also ready to win now. We've seen what most of our young guys can do, and i think we need to infuse some real talent at a few of those positions.

I am curious to see Nolan run a 4-3

Me to I really wonder what his plan is for the front 4 especially I gotta think we at least will need a NT to anchor both schemes. As mentioned above Jerry Walker Peters and Babs need to have productive years for this defense to be successful and with all off season TD and MS saying they want to get stouter both sides of the lines I to think alot of FA resource will be spent in these 2 area's.

my ONLY worry about Nolan here is his defenses haven't been ranked too high (in the 20s) when running 4-3. His 3-4 defenses are his money makers.

I dont know if it was personnel when running his 4-3's, but the results weren't there.

He hasnt run a 4-3 in 10 years, and offenses were very different back then. Maybe he can re-invent his 4-3 for this era of football. No one knows til we see it.

indeed. I am not doubting the guy, just stating that his 3-4 have shown better results for him.

I know they said 4-3 here, but part of me still wonders if that was offseason smoke, or if they are sticking to that. Then again, they did have meetings with Abraham's agent, so that sure is a sign of a 4-3 commitment.

The way this is a Passing League now, the Nickle-Defense is becoming a Base Defense. In fact, the Falcons run more Nickle Defense than their normal base 4-3 last season.

And yet they were still a top team in run D with the nickle being the prominent package. And people want Lofton gone.....

If this defense could sniff the top 10 with BVG at the helm, I'd be willing to bet Nolan can at least replicate that

In the case of Adkins I don't know if he will ever be anything but when we go yo a hybrid defense and think about Adkins I think 4.43 40 and Nolan.

Speed isn't everything but when you have a coach that knows how to use that speed then he becomes a threat.

I think Owens will stick with this team for a while. We want more DBs on the field and Owens is a guy you can blitz with.

You know Adkins has it all except football instincts ....like he's real fast, but balls over here, Adkins is over there ...I mean if he dont get it soon, he never will ......

Everywhere Nolan goes, he produces a top 10 defense. That being said the players I feel will benefit and prosper under him are:

D Rob

Sidbury

Franks

It looks a lot like the 46 Bear.

My only problem is proper difference makers especially upfront I question our talent level along the defensive front I don't see alot of talent there I see middle tier type guys outside of Babs who is questionable at this point and if he is fit he needs help. With no replacement for Abe looking likely and god only know's if they are going to upgrade at the Nose man I fear for the D-line and I'm especially interested what Nolan has inline for these guys.
