If Matty Ice Doesn't Make It Happen In 2012...

... and by "make it happen" I mean at least score a playoff win - will Falcons fans start to have enough collective doubt to honestly call for a change, or is the Drew Brees Corollary™ (It took him SIX years! Just think what Ice will have accomplished by then!" ect.) still the preferred defense? I'm curious about how you guys are approaching this season, which IMO is pivotal for your regime.

Brees required a new team and an entirely new coaching staff in order to live up to his potential.

Ryan..........I don't know. I hate to say it but if they don't win a playoff game next season, I think Mike Smith will be fired. AB has to be getting fed up. Mike Smith got them over the first hump, 4 straight winning seasons. Blank may feel that the Falcons need a new HC in order to get his team over the second hump.

One name comes to mind while reading your post pox...Tony Dungy! Of course a Homer like WRW will refute this.

Possibly? On the other hand around only 9% of NFL coaches have ever had 4 winning seasons in a row with their team in the history of the NFL. So you just don't throw that out the window. Ice has done so well in his first for seasons that people seem to forget he only has four seasons under his belt and started from day one. There are not many of these guys out there, they expect more from him because he set the bar so early and so high. Ice continues to grow every season and will only get better by the passing seasons. Yes, it is expected of him to start performing in the post season. Reasons have been the luck of the draw (all teams he lost to went on to the SB), the Oc's lack of creativeness, of course some of Ice's own weaknesses, all these are reasons that have contributed to the post seasons failures. These new coaches will have a lot to say about Ice's and Smitty's futures with the Falcons in the comings seasons.

Mike Smith doesn't appear to be getting closer to a playoff win. His coaching has been getting worse and worse in each of his 3 playoff appearances. If it happens a 4th time... why would you even want to keep him? Why would Blank? It's not like the Falcons are a sh1tty team that relies on extremely well coaching to win in the regular season. Some coaches are better regular season coaches than they are postseason coaches. Fox for example, was a decent playoff coach, but, his regular season coaching wasn't that great, so it meant that the Panthers were rarely in the playoffs to utilize his postseason coaching.

Why? Because WRW just throws crap out there to try and be the biggest homer possible. No Rhyme, No Reason, just pure unadulterated bullspit. But then again, that's the only saving grace to him posting here.laugh.png

He knows he's full of crap. Which is why we Love him!

I'll be surprised if Smith is still here if we get embarrassed in the playoffs yet again. I wouldn't be that mad if we just lost, but we straight up are never prepared. The Saints had 5 TOs and still easily stayed in the game, and we couldn't score a FG. This falls on Smitty. He never has the team prepared. He's a nice guy, but I fear he's too nice. He gives the players too many breaks.

You should've seen the way Morris coddled our players. I believe Smitty's a very good coach, but you have to show some results! Regular season wins are fine but if that's all you can hang your hat on, something has to be missing. I'd say it's pretty much a given that if he doesn't produce at least 1 playoff win next season, he'll be shown the door. As I stated earlier in this thread...look at what happened to Dungy...

Appreciate the honesty.

You know, I would love to make comments about being blatantly screwed in one game and then playing the eventual SB champs in the other two, but....

.They allowed Ryan to meet with Mr. Kotter before hiring him. Supposedly, they were on the same page. So, ideally it will fall on Ryan this year instead of the OC.

As for those saying Smitty is on the hotseat, I don't see it. Blank always wanted to be the Steelers not (enter hot team right now). He tried flashy, and failed. I think the Mora and Petrino hires may have scarred him for life. He may talk about playoffs, but I think he will stick with pretty good until it isn't.
