Swift&Change
Some players arent thrilled with franchise tag ..We already know he wasnt happy with tender last year or his contract situation ..Now 10.6 million is nothing to sneeze home about but there is also a lot of risk from his part ..Is it possible he demands a trade where he can sign long term ..I understand his point ..Next year he gets hurt god for bid he losses his 1 time to cash in ...Now 10.6 million you would think can set someone up for there life but he has posssblity of leaving 20-30 million on table
madman88
Doubt it.. he would make more in one year then any year if he had got a contract.. and if he wants to be here then the tag is just to buy time to get a contract done... Dnt want anyone touching your players if you can help it...
Trouble
Nope. Thats a lot of money and nothing to laugh at. Thats his payday. He doesn't have to move or anything. he has never been a issue and there is no reason to suspect he would start now.He is not the only corner in this boat. Basically all the top corners are in a "pay me a good contract or franchise me".

falconidae
They could use the non exclusive franchise tag, which would give other teams the right to talk to Grimes and the Falcons can match another teams offer or get draft picks in return. JDFIII
Grimes was an undersized guy we took a chance on from shippensburg for crying out loud. We have gotten the best out of him. i say we use the nonexclusive tag, which I didn't know existed, and let him walk and get the picks. hjerry
I was looking online about this "non-exclusive franchise tag" (on wiki), and there was a correction regarding the new CBA. It said that according to the new CBA, the amount given to the player under the franchise tag, is NOT the average of the top five salaries at that position from a given season (top5 last year for non-exclusive and top5 in coming year for exclusive). Rather, under the new CBA, the player is given the average of what was given to the highest paid player at that position in each of the last 5 seasons. Can anyone confirm if this is true, and if so how much it would be? Edited February 27, 2012 by hjerry

The Falcon Jedi Knight
If Grimes gets Franchised - he will be happy with his new salary. If he demands a trade - then let him demand, he still has to play on Sundays. He can demand all he want, but if he gets Franchised then he is stuck suiting up, or else he will be penalized with pay
jdub051082
No he wants to be a Falcon. Next year our cap should be more in tact.
Rajhae Battle
I wouldn't see any benefit to demanding a trade. I believe they would only franchise him if it looks like we couldn't reach a deal & they didn't want him to reach free agency. The Falcons want to lock him up, the question will continue to be at what price? I'm sure Grimes has had it explained to him that the franchise tag would only be a tactic used to try to keep him. Anything but a big season only hurts him after that
Steel City Falcon
I would rather them just tag him and get maybe one more year then have him signed as an undersized DB that is turning 30 soon and coming off a knee injury.
Aftermath
IDK, he could stand to lose a good bit of money if he plays without a longterm contract. If he still has knee issues, gets injured again, has a less than stellar season or shows that age is catching up with him he could potentially lose a few million dollars a year off of his next contract. vafalconfan
It would be sweet if we could trade him, but no team is going to do that..
phattywankenobi
If they tag him they can get two first rounders if there is a willing party. If they are willing to pay him the 10M+ then why would they be unwilling to take the picks?

Exactly my point. I don't think anyone in their right mind will give up 2 1st rounders before they pay the mutha load.
