What If The Panthers Signed Abe55?

I don't see the need for adding a situational rusher when, as of right now, both Hardy and Applewhite ideally fit that role. Especially when you consider there are far bigger concerns defensively and cap-wise.

Hardy is a starter and Applewhite is a FA. Abe would be a upgrade over Applewhite.

Abe was very good, but he's older and slowing down. I don't see him in anymore Superman roles.

That said, if he feels he is dissed by the Falcons, he could play 2012 with a chip on his shoulder.

We don't need him to start. We could use him as a pass rusher on passing downs and back-up to Hardy and CJ. He could thrive in that role.

From what I hear about his pay desire, you'd have too much tied up in CJ and a situational pass rusher. Don't hamstring your team for one position. If he was going to take "situational" money, we'd resign him.

After testing the Market he might find out that 33-34 year old DE (with durabilities issues) might have to clam down there demands. Plus playing close to home might be something that spikes his interest.

If he feels slighted by the Falcons, then I could see a possibly dirt cheap signing for him, by the Panthers.

He may only "rise up" for just the two games against the Falcons.... but that's better than nothing. I think CJ and someone like Abe, even old Abe when he turns it on, would be a fierce combo. Even if that old Abe is only a situational player.

Hold on there, guys... He isn't being slighted by the Falcons, and FA hasn't even started yet. This could all be posturing. If he finds that we offered a similar deal to what other teams are offering, he might even be back in the Red and Black. I don't really think he'll take the same deal we offered to go play somewhere else. He's going to test his value to other teams, then sign for the best deal

He has already stated he won't take less than 12mill/yr.

C-Ya Abe..Thanks for the memories wink.png

Abe said on 790 the Zone that he wouldn't play for less than $12M per season.

Why would he sign for 'dirt cheap' to play for the Panthers?

I swear between this and the claims that the Panthers are gonna land carr/Grimes, I really think you guys don't understand how the salary cap works.

Because I keep an update on everything Abe does and says? What are you going on about? Abe is an old, washed up DE, compared to how he used to be. What normal fan is going to assume that he wants 12m a year?

Besides, aren't the Panthers already OVER the cap? They spent quite a bit last offseason.
