Andrew Jackson Profile

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed former seventh-round offensive guard Andrew Jackson, according to a league source with knowledge of the situation. He was picked 210th overall out of Fresno State last year.

Jackson, 26, was an All-Western Athletic Conference selection. The 6-foot-6, 300-pounder was also a first-team Academic All-American.

i have said before injury as what killed this team at RG, not lack of talent. Had Johnson and Jackson not been hurt, i really dont think this team would have used a RT and OC for 16 games at the RG spot.

It is too bad Johnson got hurt in camps/preseason, because if I recall in the 1-2 games he played at RG he looked better than Reynolds, especially in pass protection.

I guess I am just surprisede was only signed to a 1 year deal. Where there changes in the amount of years you can sign a late round pick? In the past the team has always offered 3 year deals (sometimes longer) even to late round picks.

I still do not understand why Johnson (3rd rnd) was inactive the first 5 games last year. I've read this week that Paul B. did not like him so that may be part of it. He was a gameday inactive all 16 games in 2010 and then in 2011 Only active for 2 games (6.7) He may have played some RG those 2 games but he is not listed as the starter. then he went on IR for the rest of the season. so in 2 years (34 games) he's been active 2 games

As for Jackson (7th rnd) remember at the end of preseason he was cut and re-signed to the PS. He was on the PS (then IR) the entire year. PS contracts are 1 year contracts.

I'm speculating but I think McClure getting injured and having to sign a 3rd OC may have led to Jackson being place on the PS.

Temper those expectations on Andrew Jackson. You need only go back a year and see how people pumped up Garrett "the turnstile" Reynolds.

Remember back in 2009 (Reynolds rookie year) Dahl was injured and missed games 13,14,15,16, Reynolds played RG those games and did quite well.

In 2010 Reynolds and M Johnson were both gameday inactives all 16 games.

He did not do nearly as well in 2011

Apparently before Johnson went down he had a fallout with Boudreau anyways.

Does anyone have how much Jackson signed for cap hit number's I'd be interested to no.

Offensive line non-starters aren't typically active on gamedays. Unless you are the swing tackle or can backup multiple positions, it isn't likely that you will be active if you're not starting. Teams don't rotate their o-lineman the way they do other players.

If this is true, then it might have something to do with why Boudreau was fired and the whole new perspective thing. The best player should always see the field. Do you have any source on this?

I'm afraid I was one of those guys that thought Garrett Reynolds would be the answer. He looked so dominant late in the preseason games. I guess level of competition means everything. The biggest problem I see is he don't use leverage to his advantage. I often saw him get caught up too high with the defensive player up under his pads. He may go back to being a backup right tackle. Can you give a roster spot for a player who can be a good backup at only one line spot? How about that jumbo lineup tight end?

Understand, the point was-- why was Reynolds(an OT-5th rnd) starting at RG instead of Johnson (an OG-3rd rnd) in the first place, Phatty answered it -- Johnson was first injured in preseason and not ready to play in those first 5/6 Games. Others have mentioned a rift between Paul B. and Johnson. The Falcons normally carry 9 O-line men and 7 active on game day ( 5 starters, 1 OC/OG and 1 (LOT/ROT)
