vel
Somebody posted this in a topic but I figured it'd get washed over: Falcons | Brent Grimes expected to get franchise tag Mon, 20 Feb 2012 11:13:34 -0800The Atlanta Falcons are expected to place the franchise tag on impending free-agent CB Brent Grimes if they are not able to reach a long-term agreement this offseason.| Source: NFL Network - Jason La Canfora Read more: http://www.kffl.com/...s#ixzz1myPq0OPeOf course this is just La Canfora, but it's still La Canfora. He has more connections than any of us probably combined. So even if it's a 5% chance he is right (for you cynics out there), they clearly saw Grimes "sitting out" as a non issue. youngbloodz
Would be stupid if they did that
Swift&Change
This truly would be a bone headed mistake compounded by TD ...Grimes should have been taken care of last year he wasnt for whatever reason ...Now he is about to hit the open market and instead of getting any compensation out of Grimes were going to franchise him if we cant work out a deal ..1) Grimes and his wife are not going to like this and there will be serious reprecusions if we do thisPossibly demand tradeNow could it be possbily we are franchsing him with intentionjs of possibly trading him ...thats a big risk to take cause there are other corners on market teams wouldnt have to give up a 1st or 2nd round pick for and work out a deal ...lus we will get stuck with the what is it 9 million towards the cap if we dont trade him
Jah
I hope TD does whatever it takes to keep swift crying.
Psychic Gibbon
Hopefully they have a trade partner set up if they can't get a good deal. He'd take up $10 million of the cap otherwise.
vel
I agree swift, TD knew this was coming. Instead of a measly tender, he should have signed him. But I think knowing his cap situation this year, it's easier to sign him now than last year if he truly wants to keep him. He didn't have the room last year really
didz
Trading Grimes away seems to be the only logical choice. We have seen teams all around the league give up draft picks for guys of Grimes's talent. CB's are highly valued in today's game and a team like the Redskins would trade a first for Grimes. I won't go through every team but I am sure teams would really consider it.
atljbo
I think we will resign him before the tag
Xx FaLcOhoLiC Xx
I'm personally over Grimes and his annoying wife. Get him outta the dirty..
autigerfan
I wouldn't have to think twice if someone offered us a first round pick. Get his replacement in the draft and save the cap space for re-signing Lofton and signing Mario.
Dharma Initiative
That would be a huge mistake, TD has had enough of those lately
Jah
I love how some people speak as though they have all of the facts. Not one of us knows what has been done between the front office and Grimes' agent. But don't let that stop you from pretending otherwise..... But don't let that stop you from pretending otherwise.....First off he has two new agents representing him and jason LaConfora is not always wrong about what he gets from his sources but I figure you must be a Grimes hater. do you have sources within the org if so please let us know your update on the situation? Abe
I think his wife was a poster on here by the name of Sports Freak. I know some of you remember her. She had so much inside info she leaked to us. Most posters said she didn't know what she was saying but everything she said came true. Steel City Falcon
He's not worth 10 million, and that's what the franchise tag for a CB is.
ProbablyNot
The franchise tag will be used since the Falcons cant afford the type of contract it will probably take to keep Grimes. Let's face it, they paid the wrong corner. They should've just stuck it out with Houston for one more year since Robinson didn't do anything to improve the secondary IMO. That's a 10.6mil hit to the cap! If they tag this guy, will you guys stop saying he sat out of the Giants game on purpose and the organization is unhappy with him? That would prove the FO is not upset with him and maybe, just maybe...the guy was really hurt and the FO knew it.

tobyd77
He's not worth 10 million, and that's what the franchise tag for a CB is.Well Jason La Confora's sources seem to think that the Org. thinks that he is if they can't get a deal longterm done before the tag deadline ends march 5th at 4pm. Dude is only reporting we has been reported that's all sir.

tobyd77
What?Explain yourself about what you meant by the comment you made because if you not reading what jason laConfora reportedcabout what sources say the falcons are looking to do than you are replying off of what you think you are reading. Dude is only reporting what he read.Unless you have sources that are more reliable than LaConfora's is. The story may not be as true yet but that is the fun of the whole thing trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together based off of what you have reported at least that's how i like to do it. It is the falcons money and if we got use it.

1989Fan
I think this is a great move. Basically it does one of three things. One, it gives us leverage to say to Grimes, "look sign a decent deal and get 15-20m guaranteed, or play under the tender and risk your future if you dont play well or get hurt. Two, it lets us hold him to try and trade in a year when the team could use the picks or players in return.Three, it allows the team to have Grimes without a big committment for an additional season to evaluate DRob one more season and pick on of them as the long term #1 guy going forward. 1989Fan
This would also lead to wonder if atlanta is making headway in re-signing Lofton since he was said to be top priority.
