tobyd77
I'm probably going to start a forest fire with this one but that's what it's all about saying what you feel and not being afraid of the possible reticule of others.I use to be like a lot of you all man, what other coach do you know has had back to back to back to back winning seasons in Atlanta history before Mike Smith came here.Well I have one for you what other coach has led this team to a superbowl game before Dan Reeves got here?Wait better yet when was the last time this team won a playoff game? and that answer you can find right on here from a recent post of a comment that the person who won that last playoff game made about Mike Smith and his team.listen even TD, Smitty, and AB don't mind that but they even said it themselves that that is not good enough so why can't I say that same thing too. You don't believe me here goes AB the owner.Q: Are you pleased with your third trip to the playoffs over the last four seasons?A: Well, I’m excited about the last four winning seasons, back-to-back-to-back-to-back for the first time in our history. First time in our history, three out of four seasons in the playoffs. What I’m not excited about is that we have not won a playoff game since 2004. I think that the staff, starting with [general manager] Thomas [Dimitroff], [coach Mike Smith] and the players, they all understand this is the second part of the season. Smith might say the third part after the preseason, regular season and now the playoffs. Before we move to that next level of being called an elite team we have to be successful at this level. That’s goes for the entire organization. I’m excited about the opportunity. We’ll go and compete. We are in this thing to compete not just for regular season wins. Our goal is to win rings, to get championships and eventually win a Super Bowl for this community,” Blank said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “That’s our goal. That's Aurther Blank speaking now if you fans want to remain modest fans that is fine but don't count on me to continue to join you I'm having what AB, TD and Smitty are having and that is the expectation of championships and rings plural. Ethanga62890
You're confusing happy with satisfied.This. Just because we're not calling everyone out to be cut doesn't mean we are satisfied with being bounced in round 1 every year. We are just happy we are finally to a point where we are in a position to compete year in year out. Therefore we better rationalize who should be cut etc rather than throwing out knee jerk reactions. Rajhae Battle
I don't believe any true Falcon Fan is content with having 4 winning seasons. I think we all recgonize that given our history & what we have overcome these last 4 years, that we have done something special, however we also recgonize that the franchise goal is to compete & ultimately win Super Bowl Titles. Winning in the regular season is only part of a larger process. I believe they should take pride in reaching this point, but have the drive, determination,& resolve to complete the next steps. When ever someone reaches the top of any profession when asked what they will remeber the most, they almost always reply " The Journey" so let these post season losses fuel them to achieve what every Falcon Fan wants, A Championship. Swift&Change
Yeah I def think TD , Smith and even Ryan are all on notice...In my opinion they have this and next year to make a impact in playoffs and a deep run . That would be solid 7 years ..If TD ,Smith and Ryan cant lead us to playoff success within a 7 year time perorid there will be no evidence or reason to keep them past ...Blank will then FIRE TD and Smith next year bring in a new general manager and let him pick the coach he wants and then new GM will decide on what to do with Matt Ryan and his contract ..The way this team didnt even compete in playoff game .I think cracks in foundation are starting to spread. I see us at 9-7 next season or around that mark .. I see us missing out on playoffs next year and Blank gives this current trio 1 more year
Trouble
Total team rebuild (check)Every NFL team wants a winning season (Check 4 seasons in a row)Every NFL team wants to make the playoffs! (check 3 of the last 4 seasons)Every NFL team hope they make the superbowl (failed)Only 1 team wins (failed)Every coach, GM, Owner wants these things. To think Smith and company have failed is crazy when in the entire Falcons history it has never been done.Winning teams get used to winning and set high expectations for themselves. Losing teams fire players and staff and feel lucky to have 1 winning season.

Falcons0081
Sorta like what Atlanta fans expect from the Hawks. We expect them to do well enough to make the playoffs each season and get bounced in the first or second round. I can't say if we are happy about it or not but hey, at least we had a shot at glory, we just always seem to come up short in the end. cooperbh
I hate playoff wins. The regular season is long enough. Also, TD is a god who can do no wrong.
Trouble
Lets look at timelines of things that could happen.4 winning seasons (we know)this season we go win less and blank and td get fired or get another season and blow that.Thats 1 maybe 2 losing season.Hire a new GM and HC and new OC and DC1st year is usually a given that you wont make the playoffs2 year playoffs become a expectation3 year you hope you can get back and maybe win. (if you dont, that staff could be out of a job)rinse and repeat this cycle again until someone gets lucky. So that is maybe 5 more seasons and maybe 1 expected playoff appearance. Could be 8 with 2 playoff appearances and 2 entirely new coaching staffs. Oddly this sounds like the falcons before Smith and TD era began.4 winning seasons is something to be proud of and is fun to watch every year. Getting playoffs wins is great, but its easier said than done. Thats the best of the best. Its better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all. Same goes for making the playoffs. You forgot Denver. If we continue on this path, Smith will be the first head to roll. TD; Ryan won't be fired (IMO) until we see what can be done with a head coach that isn't so conservative in his approach.
kiwifalcon
If the Falcons want to get to the next level AB has going to have to add some difference makers both sides of the ball which though hasn't worked other places he in my view has to go off plan here a bit and open his wallet and take a bit of a financial risk here and get a couple of high talented and priced FA's in here to get us over the top. pzummo
I would love for us to win in the Playoffs just as much as the next guy, but It's not like we lost to weak Playoff teams. 2 Superbowl winners and one Superbowl representative are tough Playoff matchups. ukfalc
Unlike the critics on here, AB is realistic enough not to impatiently demand instant success. He clealry respects and appreciates what this team has achieved over the last 4 years ("I’m excited about the last four winning seasons, back-to-back-to-back-to-back for the first time in our history. First time in our history, three out of four seasons in the playoffs.").He clearly want's more, but recognises that there are no guarantees of success and looks forward to the challenge ("That’s goes for the entire organization. I’m excited about the opportunity. We’ll go and compete."). The word eventualy stood out to me as well ("Our goal is to win rings, to get championships and eventually win a Super Bowl for this community").We have a grat owner who craves success and is willing to do whatever he thinks is necessary to trry to succeed. He's also sensile enough to recognise the need for continuity and that there are no guarantees of success in the NFL.
The Falcon Jedi Knight
You do not compare "Success" to past team history. You compare SUCCESS TO THE REST OF THE NFL TEAMS.Yea - we've enjoyed winning seasons in a row. Awesome. What has all that amounted to? Nothing.People often say - "The Falcons have finally won a lot of games consistently, we should be happy with that. Dimitroff and Smith have brought consistency to Atlanta."Dimitroff and Smith have brought consistency - Winning in the Regular Season. Losing when it COUNTS.But that's a lot better than what past Falcon teams have done.... right? No.My mantra is - DONT GET TO THE POST SEASON IF YOU CANT COMPETE. I would rather fail in the regular season than play in the playoffs when we dont deserve to be there. Making the Playoffs MEANS NOTHING if you cant COMPETE. And for 4 years this team has shown unable to compete when it counts. So, stop with all the "oh we're so much better than what we were before crap..." Yea, maybe we are and maybe we arent but stop comparing SUCCESS TO PAST FALCON TEAMS and start comparing SUCCESS TO THE REST OF THE NFL TEAMS that we want to be. We arent there, and with new coaches we are trying to start over again.
The Falcon Jedi Knight
These idiots that stand on their soap-box every month telling all of us to shut up and bow to the church of the atlanta falcons make me sick. All this team has been is Mediocre. Dimitroff has drafted good, and terrible. Mike Smith has coached terrible, and Ok. This team is Mediocre. And now we're losing half our Defense to free agency, we have one of the worst O-Lines in the NFL, and we have no draft picks or cap space to fix much of that. This is reality. Face it. Unless Mike Nolan and Dirk Koetter can come in here and pull a rabbit out of their hat then this team wont even make the playoffs next season. We are rebuilding again whether you want to accept it or not.
ukfalc
TD and Smithy are right. It's a process. To win a champiosnhip, you first have to build a team that can consistently get to the playoffs. We've done that. Now we have to keep this squad together, tinker with what we have, and hope that in one of these seasons things fall in to place, we get that bit of luck that every super bowl team gets, and we can win enough playoff games to bring it home.Everyone is fixated with playoff wins, but would people really feel better if this staff had 1 or 2 playoff wins under their belt but no championship? If you don't win the super bowl, does it really matter which playoff game you lost in?
