The Falcon Jedi Knight
Latest Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 10:54 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Falcons without 1st- and 4th-round picks in 2012 draft Because they moved up in the 2011 draft to draft WR Julio Jones, the Falcons are without a first- and a fourth-round pick in 2012. The only way for Atlanta to select prior to the 23rd pick in the second round is to trade up. Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 10:52 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Possible 2nd-round pick: Miami OG Brandon Washington Miami OG Brandon Washington has paid his dues as a pass protector at the college level and since Atlanta had issues protecting QB Matt Ryan at times in 2011, Washington will get a look in the second round. Washington is a huge, very athletic, incredibly strong lineman with upside. Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 10:51 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Possible 2nd-round pick: Ohio State C Michael Brewster Atlanta could use some depth on the offensive line and Ohio State C Michael Brewster could provide just that. Brewster is a high-motor lineman that goes all-out until the whistle. He also can cross-train at OG, and head coach Mike Smith loves versatile linemen. Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 10:46 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Possible 2nd-round pick: Virginia Tech CB Jayron Hosley It’s no secret that Atlanta has been looking to upgrade its pass defense for years. Virginia Tech CB Jayron Hosley has great hands, a quick break to the ball and is willing to assist in run support. His skill set works great in a zone system. Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 10:44 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Possible 2nd-round pick: Oklahoma State FS Markelle Martin Atlanta had issues at safety this past season and could potentially lose S Thomas DeCoud to free agency. Oklahoma State FS Markelle Martin is the No. 2 safety in the 2012 draft class and impressed at the Senior Bowl. Martin is an outstanding tackler with the hybrid skills to cover as well. Falcons RapidReports Feb. 15, 2012 9:22 a.m. - by Knox Bardeen - Report: Falcons have $30.6 million in cap room for 2012 Because of a new rule in the collective bargaining agreement that allows teams to carry over unused cap room into the next season, the Falcons will have $30.6 million to spend when free agency begins on March 13, according to ESPN. Osiruz
If we take depth on the offensive line ima start breaking stuff.
egoprime II
>>Atlanta could use some depth on the offensive line<<No - Atlanta could use a STARTER on the offensive lineTD signs Marcus McNiell, LT SD Chargers, after they release him. There is our LT.Going by his performance last preseason, and his being able to recover from his injury for over seven months now, OG Mike Johnson, I figure, stands to start at RG. If Johnson does not project as being starter capable, we do have to address this position. But for now RG is taken care of.That leaves center, a player who might take over for McClure halfway thru the season or so. Seems to me, we can get that guy in the second or third round of this draft. This is the best, most cap efficient scenario I can come up with. Gives us money to sign a pass rusher or DT in FA. Then we use our other high draft pick on whatever FA does not bring.

Guest Gritz
Considering where we are and what we need Marcus McNeill would be an excellent FA signing....Auburn (and Cedar Grove HS in Decatur) kid comes back closer to home....... He was drafted to play, not sit on the bench. That would be ideal
Abe
TD being named to that committee is a nice honor. He must be doing something right.
youngbloodz
Brandon Washington is good at pass protection. And he is athletic. Might not be there though if he has a good combine
FalconJim
We could definitely use both Brewster and Jackson on our O-line....especially Brewster, to replace the aging McClure at center. And I would be ecstatic if somehow DE, Vinny Curry were to fall to us in the 2nd. If he doesn't, I think he'd be worth doing some "wheeling and dealing" to acquire. It would solidify our DE position for a long time. I just hope we get some veteran help on the O-line through FA.....that would open up the draft a whole lot more for us this year... autigerfan
Lets not forget about Andrew Jackson at guard. He was a possible early round pick who fell to the 7th round due to his injury. Pat Hill coached him at Fresno so he knows what the kid is capable of. I would much rather let the youngsters battle it out than throw 9 million at Carl Nicks. All three are injury risks, but I just don't see any better options at the moment. Then we can spend our 2nd and 3rd round picks on a C of the future and a TE or RB to groom for 2013. krammmit
Svitek was one of the best players on our O-line, why are we so concerned about LT when all year we tried to find someone for RG??? I dont get the Mcneil signing. It seems money would be better spent on a position that we need now more than a need in 2 years.
