Eddie Royal Vs Harry Douglas

Recommended Posts

Douglas is a UFA. He would be good to be resigned, if he wants too much money a good player to look at would be Eddie Royal. On O we need to fix the OL after that theres not much other than settle the 3rd WR, add a talented rookie TE to learn from Gonzo, and maybe a rookie RB to replace Snelling.

Eddie Royal caught 19 passes this year in the Tim Tebow passing attack. There were games when he had more rushes than catches. He probably wouldn't mind going somewhere with better QB play. At 5'10 185 he doesnt look like a starter on a team that rushes every play.

As a rookie in 08 I'm guessing Cutler was his QB in 15 games he had 91 catches for 980 yds 5 TDS. His numbers dropped the following seasons I'm guessing catchin passes from guys like Kyle Orton. This is a talented kid who would be a great fit as the slot WR and as guys like Gonzalez and White get older he could be featured as the secondary target eventually behind Jones.

Royal also has extensive experience returning kicks and punts and has scored TDs doing both and would immediately give us a dangerous return specialist who could atleast handle punt returns full time if we dont want to risk him on kick returns.

So I think he'll be available as he's not a fit in a Tebow offense and will personally want to go somewhere where he can be featured in the passing game like he was a rookie. I think at only 25 years old he'd be a great talented player to put around Ryan. He's got excellent burst and elusiveness and good route running skills and could create a lot of big plays both as a returner and as a receiver from the attention guys like Jones will take.

As for Douglas he's 27, he missed all of 09 but played 16 games every other year, while Royal missed 4 this season, 2 in 09 and 1 08. At 6'0 he's got a bit more of a linear frame. Douglas has had a good average but had catch totals of 23, 22 and 39 in his career and only 1 receiving TD each of those seasons. He's shown he has the burst to make a big play but do we think his body can hold up if he's asked to play a bigger role and catch more passes?

Douglas and Royal are very similiar in that they're both essentially slot WRs that win with quickness they aren't going to outjump many people or catch a lot of balls in traffic by outmuscling people but Royal is younger, has proven he can catch a lot more passes in a season, gives us a dynamic returner and is a guy I feel puts a bit more pressure on a D. Douglas would be great to resign tho

HD is so great he was completely removed from the gameplan when Julio was healthy. Royal is a good WR but different coaches dont feel the same as the coach that drafted certain players

That's not HD's fault. That's MM's inability to be able to use any more than 2 WRs at a time.

I don't think HD is going anywhere. No point in even debating his departure unless he asks for absurd money and I don't see that happening.

Douglas would be the better signing. He already has a rapport with Matt Ryan and they know what each other is capable of. HD is explosive when used properly (no thanks to MM). If the Falcons want to actually be explosive this year and not just provide lip service i think we should keep HD. If he does choose to leave though Eddie Royal is a very good receiver who can make plays. He would just take a little time to develop that chemistry with Ryan. It could definately work though and the offense would be better with either one of these guys.

Thats not Royals fault either. Like it has been stated before, if another team sees him as a number 2 and offers him some real money, I wouldn't be mad at him. If another team wants to keep him in the slot, he stays

I want HD back for sure, but can anyone come up with a legit reason why he looked good when JJ was out?

HD was by far the best player coming out of pre-season on "O" and it baffles me why there is such a struggle to utilize HD consistenly.

HD got bit by the Calvin Johnson Rule a couple of times but sad that we did not get more from him.

Ask Welker the same question.

MM just doesn't know how to use those kind of players. He only can use the first 2 WRs and the TE. Give him too much talent and it goes to waste. Too bad because BVG definitely could have used some. I can't wait to see what Koetter can draw up with all that talent over there.

91 rec 980 yds and 5tds as a rookie because he had a real QB Jay Cutler and a real #1 WR in Brandon Marshall taken the double teams. So put him in a slot with Roddy on 1 side JJ on the other and TG on the field. He will make himself the #1 option on some plays because of the coverage he will recieve. If you ask me I will take Royal because he proved himself to be a #2 option not just a #2 WR. And Orton was horrible and Roddy probably caught more balls then Tebow completed.

Meacham would never put up numbers like he did in New Orleans.....Brees made him

What makes you think that. He would be a bigger third down threat than HD and is a **** of alot tougher than HD and Royal combined. He has speed and great hands. He gets single coverage, it's a done deal. Only thing he needs is for Ryan to look his way. Same went for HD

HD and Royal can go to New Orleans and do everything Meachum did....It's the system and overall it's the QB. If you think Meachum would come here and light it up then u fooling yourself

How can you say he wouldnt light it up without knowing anything that we are gonna try to do on offense this season. If that's the case, HD and Royal will suffer as well. I think Matt is a good enough QB and hopefully the new OC brings some great plays where we put all of our WR's to use

That's a big if dude, u comparing our system to the Saints...Much as I hate to say it, but Saints is light years from what we tryin to do here, and thats from the QB on down. Brees can make the best out of any receiver. Can we say the same about Ryan?

Hey, you never know man. I don't have a single clue how Koetter will utilize the guys we have. I can't go by what happened in J-Ville last year because they were just plain terrible. Guess we will have to wait and see who we end up with. Any of the 3 would be great

We should just keep HD. Can't go by anything that happened in Jacksonville when Koetter was there because the Jaguars haven't had a good QB/Receiver combination since the days of Mark Brunell to Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell. Jacksonville has been the place where receivers go to die.

Hopefully HD decides to stay.
