Carter
What has NCST or UT done to earn a game like this? What did we do to earn a game like this? Nothing. We lost to UCF to close 2010 and Boise State to open 2011. But Boise State vs an SEC team was a big deal... and probably would have been a different outcome if not for a key injury on our side and a ridiculous gameplan on offense. But that's neither here nor there. These matchups are boring.
Volunteer Falcon
Can't say I'm happy with the way our game ended up being scheduled. At least it will be fun seeing UT light up NCST in the dome.

I'd watch out for the Wolfpack honestly. I thought they were dead in the water and that O'Brien was going to be dumped. But late last year NC State seemed to finally "get it" and begin to make progress. Not that they were incredibly good or anything, but to me NC State started to look like a team coached by O'Brien, and I think he is a pretty good coach. I honestly don't think there are a lot of teams that will be able to stop our passing attack though. I'm guessing we'll be in a few shoot outs next year. SacFalcFan
What has NCST or UT done to earn a game like this?nothing.. they had to find 2 teams to play.. it's not an attractive matchup at all, but it's just the 1st game and the big matchup is auburn/clemson. clemumo82
The stupid ACC is going to go to 9 games, so I guess this might be the last time Clemson is in it. Who can't get excited about playing Syracuse in upstate NY, instead of a ranked SEC opponent in the Georgia Dome?

As we got players back the defense started to play pretty well that along with first year started Mike Glennon getting more reps and showed marked improvement by years end. Say what you want about NCSU but they were one of the few teams in the ACC that actually didn't screw the pooch in their bowl game and has a large alumni base that has proven that it will travel well. Looking forward to the game.

Hard to see where a good running game will come from though. Being one dimensional on offense is never a good thing. How do you feel about the Vols rushing this season? How do you feel about the Vols rushing this season? We've been in the cellar for what seems like an eternity so I've got my orange colored glasses on big time for this upcoming season lol. I think our running game will be improved from last year. We actually have a RB coach this year and I really like the new OL coach so hopefully both of those factors will help contribute to an improved running game. We have a couple freshman backs coming in that I'm eager to see. I also think Marlin Lane will take a step forward this year and I hope that Rajon Neal can get some more carries at tail back (if he can hold on to the football). I'm also anxious to see what Antonio Richardson and Marcus Jackson will do on the offensive line. I mean I'm not complaining haha but I do feel for the good fans out there like you... coming off the success UT had before the 2000s hit, I know it's a tough pill to swallow. Honestly I hope UT is much better. I mean I still hope we skulldrag you guys between the hedges, but teams like Tennessee and Florida being down is not good for the SEC and I don't want the naysayers screaming Georgia only did this or that because UT and UF were bad.UT should be an interesting team to watch this coming season, I think. The QB and WR position are great... if those guys stay healthy. Bray, Hunter, Rogers... I mean I hate to say this as a Georgia guy, but that is sick. If your OL plays well and you guys squeeze out a running game, UT could definitely be a dangerous team in 2012. Defense is a question mark, but you guys are returning 9 starters from a pretty good unit last year right? We shall see what Big Sal can do in his first season. Bray, Hunter, Rogers, and Patterson (if he lives up to his hype) will be a tough group for any secondary to stop. I always felt that 2012 would be the year we really start getting back on track. Like you said if we can get a decent running game going we could be a tough out. Edited February 21, 2012 by Volunteer Falcon

Justin Hunter and Da'Rick Rogers are like a poor man's Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin pairing... adding Patterson to the mix is almost crazy. If they get any better on defense over last year (mid 20's nationally I believe) and find a running game, NC State will have all they can handle. I didn't say they will run it well. If statements no different than NC State really. We're talking about this one matchup. I don't think UT will be able to run the ball in SEC play, but it's a new season and you never know. You are right about the mental fragility under Dooley for sure.
