Persuading Friends To Be Falcons Fans

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, I need some help from the Falcons faithful. I have a friend who has just gotten into the NFL (was only into college football previously). He doesn't yet have a team he calls his own, so I'm trying to convince him to become a Falcons fan.

I'm planning on making a big pitch to him explaining why he should call the Atlanta Falcons his team.

So my question is: if you were in my position, what aspects of the Falcons would you highlight in order to be most persuasive? What would you say to convince someone to become a fan of your beloved Atlanta Falcons?

(PS- if this belongs in another section, please relocate it. I wasn't sure where it should go.)

If you're from Georgia, tell him support the home team. It helps the local economy.

If not, then I wouldn't pitch to him. I would just talk about the Falcons a lot when you guys discuss football. Let him develop his own relationship with a team. I have a friend that's a huge Giants fan and although I love the Falcons, I still feel a bit closer to the Giants than other teams, because he was the one who got me into football when I was younger.

Invite him over to watch games with you, take him to a game. That's what I do with all my friends and they become Falcons fans. My ex who was from Dallas was a Cowboys fan....she hung out with me 2 football seasons and to this day she supports the Falcons. Once he enjoys watching the Falcons he will become a supporter!

You dont make a fan become a fan of a team. Its like family - You are born into it, and you have no choice.

You've got that right. I've never been able to like/support any other teams that are not from Georgia. I don't get how people become fans of teams that are not in their local region. I've met many people who do love and support teams from other states, but I've often seen the people as being just front runners. My ex boss is a Redskins fan and he has never lived anywhere near DC, but has lived in the Atl, NC, and FLA markets. I've got a friend from South Fla. that is a Broncos Fan from way back, and wouldn't dream of liking any Florida teams.

1 things for sure. You dont become a falcon fan because the team won a superbowl. He needs to understand watching the falcons can give you a heart attack and betting on them is even harder. Maybe he likes a player we have or one he knows from the college days. Maybe he likes the uniforms. But he needs to enjoy the team and something about it before he can be a fan. Like the power run game.

This team is gonna break your heart. Its in their DNA. A fan of this team knows it, expects it, excepts it and handles it and enjoys the wins that much more. The team could always use more supporters. But when things go bad a true fan is gonna stick with it and show the same support.
