Snafu
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8qCnjaE8bY&feature=relatedEven in a freaking HIGHLIGHT Video there are only a couple of times the line provided adequate protection for Ryan. Look at how quick Ryan gets rid of the ball. We def. need to beef up this unit. We are luck the kid is able to make quick reads. A lot of other QB's woulda got killed behind this line. You do realize this is the nfl? Quarterbacks get pressured in the nfl. This notion that Ryan has to have a completely sterile environment to perform does not reflect well on him. Ryan was one of the least sacked qb's to make it to the post season. And he performed the worst. The line does not deserve the hate that they get. Ryan needs to step up, be a leader, and stop letting others be the fall guy. He need's to say, "it's on me". But I do not think he ever will.No nfl qb plays without getting touched. None.Just because Ryan deals the rock before hes sacked doesn't mean he isn't pressured, or our O-Line isn't garbage. This was a highlight reel starring 84... but Ryan had to get it to him.Ryan has never failed to take the blame nor suggested he could do better to with a better o-line.He pretty much gets up and dusts himself off and goes out to do better next time. We need totidy up some things, etc. Some people want him to cry for them. They want to see him lose it andexplode about something like they do. His approach works and theirs has them on the messageboard venting.

FalconFanSince1970
I don't think this video supports the OP's claims very well. Aside from maybe one play the protection looks pretty good to me.There are several other games/plays he could have used to illustrate bad protection. Plenty of choices in the @CHI, @TB, @HOU games. Aside from maybe one play the protection looks pretty good to me.There are several other games/plays he could have used to illustrate bad protection. Plenty of choices in the @CHI, @TB, @HOU games. The OP takes a unique approach with this in that even on successful highlight playsRyan had pressure and sometimes got hit after releasing the ball. I don't think this is unique withhim. I would imagine it is pretty much the same with any QB.When we release our backs there is nobody to pick up blitzing db's and lb's. When we are in twotight end sets the pocket is more secure. Nothing earth shaking. As you say, if you want to focuson bad o-line play there are a great many examples of it. Same for any team. WeNeedaQB
Maybe because Matt Ryan gets the ball out of his hands really quick? Hes been doing that since his rookie year.Do you have any stats to support that claim? If not, there is a term for what is going on around here. It's called scapegoating. Stop it. Matt Ryan is getting sacked less than the top qb's, has more weapons, and is producing less. Fact:The numbers and stats show that the offensive line's performance was more up to par for the post season than was Matt Ryan. The fact is there is nothing wrong with the #2 jersey. It's what's in it that's the problem. I have no beef with Ryan but we really need to stop blaming other people for his short comings. Add up the hits and pressures. If you do I think you will stfu. Smitty has been quoted saying hits and pressures matter as much if not more. There's a reason why all the fans and media are saying the number one offseason priority is the Oline. Watch some tape bro.

blackredfellow
You know what stands out the most to me in that vid?TouchMatt has amazing touch on the ball sometimes. I wonder why its so inconsistent though. Also, I cant believe people still complain about his arm strength. Look at the TD throw against the Eagles. Matt throws off-balance. His back foot is completely off the ground, and his front foot is not planted. Look at the zip he put on that ball. Arm strength does not just mean a guy can throw for 70 yards. Matts deep ball problem is trajectory. Look at the throw against Detroit in that vid. That was a time a high archer was perfect, but Matt seems to throw every deep ball like that. Believe it or not, Ryan CAN throw a lazer more than 40 yards. Edited February 16, 2012 by blackredfellow

Now in the games where these QBs got pressued (e.g. N.O. vs SF, GB vs NY), they didn't look so immortal. One thing I've noticed all season about Ryan is that he often gets rid of the ball quick. In the beginning of the season he was holding the ball longer and was getting sacked multiple times. It's ABSOLUTELY true that Ryan makes quick reads and throws. I think some of the problem may be our inability to run an effective screen. and not having a RB that is can run around the corner. If we can do those 2 things better next year, It will keep the defense honest and take a little pressure off the OL.
