falcon057
After rolling over $23.5 million in salary cap space from 2011, Bucs GM Mark Dominik expects to be one of the league's most active teams in free agency this offseason."We purposely rolled every penny we could into this year's cap," explained Dominik. "Clubs didn't have to do that, but we wanted to. We have plans." Tampa has been mentioned by various sources as a potential landing spot for free agents Vincent Jackson, Mario Williams, Brent Grimes, Curtis Lofton, and Mike Tolbert. According to figures compiled by ESPN, the Bucs' $60.5 million in salary cap space is second only to the Chiefs' $62.9 million. Feb 14 - 7:22 PMWhy would they want to pay Mario Williams a huge amount of dollars, one year after draft DEs with both their 1st and 2nd round pick? Don't see it.I think Grimes and Tolbert are the most plausible ones on that list. They have seen first hand over the last couple of years what Grimes can do, and they have the dough to go after him, plus that weakens a divisional opponent. They will probably go after one of the top OL FAs as well, I expect them to help bring up the prices of some of the top OL.I can see them trying to pry Curtis away from us as well, but I think we want him back, and that he wants to continue his career here. 1989Fan
the one on that list i REALLY think they will go for is Grimes. Then I think they will let Talib go, especailly if they get one more year out of Barber.Grimes old lady will likely be chirping in his ear how nice it would be to be a housewife in Florida, and he could get back at the Falcons going to TB (even though there is no reason to)I love Grimes, but if his job is to cover Julio, not so worried about it. I would throw quick slants and screens to Jones all day and watch Grimes try to tackle him.
falcon057
This will drive the cost up to retain them if we do. Wow they can buy a dann grocery STORE with that much cap! hang on it could be a wild ride in FA's period
Dharma Initiative
Well at least we know their weaknesses. Height and 3rd down pass coverage.
jfalconsp
Yeah I was worried about that. With 60 mil they can do whatever they want-- sign Grimes, Mario Williams, Lofton, and Vincent Jackson with 20 mil to spare. Crazy.
JRid
Yeah that sux. They are in the position to overpay like crazy and drive up the price on the players that don't really want to sign there. Not to mention whoever signs there automatically makes more money because Fla. has no state income tax. Even though I think most of our players love playing for and living in Atlanta crazy money will probably make them change their mind. I bet Raheem Morris will be thinking wow so now you spend a bunch of money and get big time free agents.
Knight of God
If they make all of those moves, we are in for a rough season.
Guest Gritz
If they make all of those moves, we are in for a rough season.I hear ya, but they still have to gel and they still have to be coached up.All we have to do is look at the 2011 Philadelphia Eagles. dmo_dlo
We should tag Grimes. It's risky but I believe there will be suitors who would be willing to give a draft pick (probably 2nd) for him.

UnrealfalcoN
They seriously have the money to take all of them away. I wouldn't mind losing Lofton and Grimes if we find good replacements, but if they go to our opponent in the division it just negates everything. falconsd56
I could see them going after grimes.I think Lofton stays though. They have a lot of money but they have to be willing to spend it......something they were not willing to do last year.

Plus PHI was a playoff team the year prior, and TB was arguably the biggest mess in the NFL.

It's risky but I believe there will be suitors who would be willing to give a draft pick (probably 2nd) for him.No one is trading for Grimes and the salary a franchise tag would take. He's 29 and not worth the average of a top 5 corner. That would be a horrible gamble that would backfire on us

1989Fan
Let them spend that money on Grimes... He's undersized overrated and coming off a knee injury.i have no concerns with his knee, and dont think other teams will either. He had a minor procedure done to speed up heeling time. He was cleared to play at the end of the season, so an offseason of rehab and training and it wont even be an issue.and overrtaed?..... hardly!undersized, sure. By 1-2 inches. Most CB are in the 5'10" range. Not many good 6" CBs out there. Watching him cover CJ showed me plenty that his size is not a limitation. He got up there with CJ who is like 6'3" with a 36" verticle on top of it.

kiwifalcon
I'd be physically sick if they landed MW Grimes and Lofton man I gotta think what those 3 guys do for that defense.I think we'd be pushing sh*t uphill to run the ball on these guys and with Grimes and Talib as there corners thats an upgrade right there and I don't want to even talk MW good lawd if they made these 3 moves there defense becomes down right scarey.
