Jaymadd
I believe that we have talent on the outside where grimes plays, but we severely lack talent on the inside at nickel. We have a few corners on our roster that have the potential to be playmakers on the outside, my favorite is walls, but we have yet to uncover young talent via the draft to play nickel. We need someone to come in and play nickel especially since Nolan stated that we may be playing alot more nickel this year. If we bring grimes back we are still left with a void at nickel with owens, franks, and walls having shown potential on the outside. I would love to see us draft more versatile corners

madman88
We need grimes.. our best defender... Noone on the roster is as good as him.. grimes boykin and theift robinson could be all we need at cb... The reason the secondary was as bad was the zone and plus no pressure... Two things that can be fixed with scheme n plyers
The Don™
Ill say this. Franks and Owens have looked much better on the outside than in the nickel. We have no idea how Walls will do in the nickel. We just need to draft that one long term option at nickel. It's been a revolving door with Jackson, Owens, Williams, Owens again, Hayden, Franks...I think Owens and Franks can handle the outside. Maybe Walls is the guy in the nickel. Maybe we resign Hayden or get some other FA CB. Maybe we draft Boykin or Steed or some CB.In the end, we gotta address the nickel spot and not scour around before the season starts to find one. delaigle
The real reason may boil down to $$$$$$$$$$$PFF just ranked Grimes as the #2 UFA right behind Mario.Does anyone know anything about this McClain from Jac that NFL.com says Atl signed on 10 Jan 12? played alot in 2010 but none in 2011ADDED he played in all 16 games with Carolina in 2010, -- played in no games at JAc in 2011 Edited February 14, 2012 by delaigle

FalconsManhood
let's see. Too Small, he is 29, he is only a good CB because of his athleticism, which will decline in next couple of years. Dunta already locked up, cannot spend so much money on the outside when you have a 3rd and 5th rounder already invested in the position. Psychic Gibbon
I'm confident in Franks, Walls, and, to a lesser extent, Owens to pick up the slack if/when Grimes leaves. Franks did well when Grimes went down despite being thrown to the wolves with Andre Johnson and Steve Smith being the receivers he went against in his first career starts and I can only expect him to improve. Likewise, Walls showed he had excellent instincts and if they polish up his technique I can see him being a Grimes clone, only with more height. Nolan will coach them up, I'm positive. DirtyBirdDynasty
It's hard to justify signing Grimes when we need to resign Lofton, add 1-3 starters to the OL, and -3 DL, and replace DecoudMissing our last game definately didnt help himHes athletic and has good ball skills, can be very productive behind a good pass rush. Biggest knock is lack of size has to play off can't press anyone. I always like players who can create turnovers but due to his limitations and age its hard to justify signing him due to our bigger needs. You always go DL before CB and he DL needs to be upgraded
DirtyBirdDynasty
Here's his scouting report coming into this season based on the film from 2010, coming off his 2 most productive seasonsGrade: 68Comment: Grimes has steadily improved each year in the league. He is slightly undersized for the position and can be overpowered to the ball by some of the league's bigger receivers but has excellent short-area quickness, agility and change-of-direction quickness. He has a quick, fluid hip turn that allows him to open and run with receivers without a loss of speed. He tends to gamble and undercut routes, which opens him up to being burned deep at times, and needs to be a little more disciplined in his coverages. He does a good job of reading the quarterback's eyes from off coverage and shows good route recognition.Personally, I'd let him walk so we can focus on beefing up the OL and DL, resigning Lofton and finding a new FSId like to see Franks step into the 2nd starting spot, he's got good size and was productive with regards to INTs and PDs in his limited time. With him and Robinson we can play press man coverage
FalconJim
You HAVE to keep Grimes around. He's a Pro Bowl veteran, and only 29 years old. Sure, he's a little small for the position, but dude's got a big heart, and that can overcome a lot!!! JMO.

So at the end of the day we will see who needs to get off the boards as u say lol. Snafu
At some point you HAVE to give your young guys a shot. Franks has such a high ceiling w/ such a low cap hit it would almost be foolish to resign grimes....especially for the money he's about to make.Franks and Owens played VERY VERY VERY well in Grimes absence...And he became expendable because of it. In a Nolan Defense guys like Franks, Owens and Dunta will fluorish. They are all physical and we will see them jamming guys at the line this year. For the guys that want Grimes back, what dd you see in his hiatus that makes you think our secondary cant afford to lose him? What I saw out of Franks and Owens makes me think we can. Edited February 14, 2012 by RubberDucky
BleedBlack&Red
Ok my opinion is not needed but I definately feel I need to throw $0.02 in now. With the thought of us losing Lofton sacrificing 1-2 positions on our line and keeping Decoud. I a non-professional Falcon analyst (like the rest of you) will weigh that keeping Grimes is to much. This guy is athletic but seeing what receivers are nowadays (physical machines) he will eventually be OVERPOWERED. Losing him will be more beneficial to this team in regards to $$$, better character (depending on why he sat out our final game), and the loss of his loud mouth wife. Grimes is looking to and will get paid this contract for two reasons. He is 29 this may be his last contract pushing him to 33-34, and the reason he is a pro-bowl calibor CB. Let the guy go, improve our roster as a whole, and give him our best wishes. Did I mention his loud mouth wife?!?!? since68andcounting
All these people say he can't play man, and he can't play press, and he can't cover big receivers. Does anyone remember what he did to Megatron this very season? The people on this board have very short, very convenient memories. He's our best cornerback. PERIOD. That doesn't matter if we play zone, man, press, or 11 mice in a cage.
jfalconsp
I think that we should pursue all of our other more pressing needs first in FA, and then if we end up with the money left to sign him at the end then we sign him. If not, we don't. I understand then we risk him signing with another team long beforehand, but it is what it is. I think that Franks and Owens can more than do the job on the outside and I believe we'll be drafting Boykin for the NB position in the draft.
