DirtyBirdDynasty
I'm seeing it on a couple sites that it would cost the Texans 23M to tag Williams? If we could have 1 signing on D that would be it (Ive seen it written we have 30M cap space but dont know if thats true)

The first year of a new Williams contract will be the easiest to swallow with a big pro-rated signing bonus and relatively small salary for 2012. Guest TheIdowu
If the frachise tag is 23mil to tag Williams, I don't see houston taging him. Dude may very well hit FA.

Tribal Chief
Once again, we have bigger issues. No point in trying to sign a soon to be $100 millon man. DE isnt the biggest issue. What good would it be to sign him and our inside pass rush still sucks. I thought the objective was to make the entire pass rush better. Williams arrival does not guarantee a better pass rush. He would just be a younger Abe, 1 man show Edited February 12, 2012 by ya_boi_j

DE has been HUGE issue w/ Falcons the last two years - outside of pass protection for Matt, our biggest issue - "yes" the inside pass rush needs to get better as well. I would love to have Mario Williams but I think he will be too expensive - if we got him, we could do little else. Hopefully Mike Nolan will be able to maximize the talent that the Falcons do have through his ingenious defensive schemes. If we could get Mario at reasonable price (say $11-$12mil/season) then I would say go for it. If he wants $15mil+ - let someone else overpay - no non-QB is worth that.

What good is it to blow money on a big name DE when our DT can't even get enough penetration to free the men up. Plus lack of blitz plays didnt help either. If we had.a younger version of Rod Coleman to line up beside a healthy Babz, you would see great improvement. Peters is good but he ain't the answer although many think he is
Trouble
Its nice to dream but MW will not be a falcon next season. We will not spend that kinda money going after him when we have almost 20 FA`sand a draft to try and pay.

And we just need lofton, HD, Beirmann and maybe Decoud back. And Abe if he returns for cheap.
Trouble
well, draft will only take around 3 mil. And we just need lofton, HD, Beirmann and maybe Decoud back. And Abe if he returns for cheap.Loften is gonna get paid! HD could get close to near #2 money if we try and keep him (i prey we do) and Beirmann might not but a lot of those FA`s are our depth chart. They already said they plan on targeting around 50% of those. We wont try and you probably wont hear our name mentioned except as a team with a need that could use him. Master Exploder
I don't think Mario's price tag will ward TD away from trying to snag him. Without a 1st round pick and a need to immediately improve our team, I can easily see us getting into a bid war for him. We have the money and it's not every day that one of the super freak athletes of the NFL hits the FA market at 26 years old.I don't see us getting him though. Over half of the NFL is going to be in a bid war for him. He's about to get paid and usually guys like him go to the bottom dwelling franchises of the league. youngbloodz
I disagree man. Our biggest issue is a pass rush and that involves DE. Put Jared Allen on this team our pass rush automatically becomes better. Mario is the same way. He will make our pass rush better by him putting on a Falcons jersey
jfalconsp
Idk currently only 5 teams have more cap space to work with than us, I think we could make a strong push for him if we wanted. We just have a lot of other needs to fill as well, that's the problem. Idk currently only 5 teams have more cap space to work with than us, I think we could make a strong push for him if we wanted. coastiemike
If you add Williams, he is going to be double teamed which leaves one on one in the middle. Peters and Babs are good on one on one and will increase their pressures next year. If we keep Abe, and he and MW are rushing around the corners, then the middle gets that much better. cnasty
I'm starting to feel like this could be a legitimate possibility for us. Sign the guy to an 8 yr deal and lock him up for the best years of his career. We certainly have the money to do so. We could even go after a few other FAs as well, seeing as how we could possibly get him at around 10-12 mil a yr.
CraigSmackDaddy
If we didn't sign Edwards last season I could see it.... If we spend big money on an FA it will be an OL

And Dunta didn't work out as well. They probably dont wanna tie up to much on outside help that doesn't deliver when they get here.
Master Exploder
Exactly. And Dunta didn't work out as well. They probably dont wanna tie up to much on outside help that doesn't deliver when they get here.Ray Edwards plays on the other side and was relatively cheap for his talents. Mario Williams is an elite player. Ray and Dunta had question marks coming in, but Mario is a proven top DE in this league.
Psychic Gibbon
Williams is not going to be a Falcon. He will be too much of a financial burden in an offseason where they have multiple contracts ending and a fairly limited draft. He is very good but signing him would be one step forward and two steps back.

kiwifalcon
6 years 100 mill 28 mill guaranteed.10 mill cap hit and add the other 2 mill into bonus's I agree with the earlier notion if we are going to take a big plunge in FA this is the year no 1st rounder to pay.I mean if we are worried about the middle I let Babs go and use his salary to go get NT there are options here for us.also agree with the fact that MW is a once in a lifetime type player at this position and we have the oppourtunity to lock him up whilst he's moving ito the prime of his playing career. He's versitile ca play rush OLB if asked could probably play DT on 3rd down if we wanted to go with a 3 DE pass rush look on 3rd down much like the Giants use add in he's a 65-70 snap guy who can go the whole game if asked how can you lose adding a guy like this to your roster. If we added this guy I can just see a wry smile on Nolans face hahahaahha it would be like opening your garage and look what I got a new Ferrari Enzo to play with. isproab
Where did this 23m dollar number come from? I don't believe it is accurate. I know the tag value is not that high. Since he was tagged last year he has to make 120% of what he made in 2011. According to the ESPN article below, its about 16.5 million for Mario. Thats still high, but he is not just walking out of Houston without the team that gets him giving up something. So everybody that thinks "Blank just step up and pay the man", think again. Players or picks will change hand, Texans still have a hand up in the situation and they are going to use it just like the Falcons or any other team would.http://espn.go.com/b...e-franchise-taghttp://www.nfl.com/n...e-board-in-2012 Edited February 12, 2012 by isproab
