If We Lose Grimes...stanford Routt?

Got the text yesterday from ESPN Scorecenter, didn't get on the boards tro see if it was discussed here. I know the guy has the second fastest 40 time in recent history at the combine to CJ2K. Is this guy someone who would be on TD's radar, would he be an upgrade over Grimes or is he pretty much gonna cost too much? The Raiders appear to be cleaning house.

Look deep into that one man.

Does he suck or is he a money or new regime casualty? Frankly, the last I heard of him was that 40 time he ran. I heard Archer and Bell throw his name out there today on the drive home, got me wondering if anyone else had posed this on the boards. Usually every guy that gets cut or released gets a "Bring 'Em Home" post. Wanted to do my part.

This is funny cuz i don't know about him in real life but i had the use the Raiders in a Madden tournament (I ran wit the Birds, but i had to play wit the opposing team of someone running wit SD) and Stanford Routt kept getting beat, even bit on a play-action to give up a big play. I was saying to myself at that time that i'm glad he doesn't play for us.

He was signed by Al Davis, who would sign anyone who could run fast - regardless of talent, skill or work ethic. I think it is the current regime culling down to actual football players..........

Am I the only person who feels comfortable with the CB situation if Grimes leaves? Franks did well in his place despite his first starts coming against the likes of Andre Johnson and Steve Smith, Owens improved as the season went on, and Walls comes off as a Grimes clone. Their upside combined with Nolan's lengthy track record of coaching up DBs leads me to believe that he'll unlock the potential TD saw in them and make the most of their talents where they're needed. To me, all they really need is another CB for depth this season and maybe they can pick up someone to replace Robinson next year if he doesn't improve his game even under Nolan... perhaps Xavier Rhodes?

I'd like this to happen but it isn't going to. The Chiefs have a good deal of cap space and there is no way they're going to let Carr go if they don't have to.

Chiefs' interest in Routt makes sense

By Bill Williamson

Thursday, we looked at the possibility of cornerback Stanford Routt staying in the AFC West. It appears that one team in the division is indeed considering the idea.

SPNDallas.com reported that the Kansas City Chiefs are one of the teams that have interest in Routt, cut Thursday by the Oakland Raiders. Kansas City has yet to arrange a visit with Routt.

If the Chiefs sign Routt, that likely means they will allow cornerback Brandon Carr to become a free agent. The Chiefs could yet choose to place the franchise tag on either Carr or receiver Dwayne Bowe.

The Chiefs could be comparing the price tags for Carr and Routt; they could also be showing interest in Routt to demonstrate to Carr that they would be willing to go elsewhere.

I think it is a smart move for the Chiefs to at least see what Routt is looking for and to give themselves options in case they think Carr will leave. Because there is so much interest in Routt, this process could take some time.

In other AFC West news:

New Denver defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio talks about adjusting to his new unit in a radio interview.

The Chiefs reportedly are interested in a member of the Super Bowl champion Giants for their offensive-line coaching job.

Not saying it's going to happen, but the Chiefs could let him go.
