falconidae
Mario Williams looks like a good fit for the Falcons, assuming that he healthy, but at what cost?I don't think the Falcons can or will pay for him, think he's going to get paid outragous amounts of money. How much would you pay him, and, who are you not signing or re-signing to make it happen? Thiccolas Cage
I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles made a run at him too.
jfalconsp
6 years, $85 million; 42 mil guaranteed; 12 million cap hit this yearAlmost identical to Julius Peppers contract. Makes us lose out on Grimes or Lofton and Abraham probably.
jfalconsp
I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles made a run at him too.The Eagles are estimated to be ~$114 mil against the cap right now. Lesean McCoy is on the last year of his contract getting paid in Trident Layers and they need to extend him ASAP; he will get paid some serious cash I would imagine so I can't see them making too many big moves. And that doesn't include if they want to bring back Desean Jackson.

If you can get him for 14 a year, great.
Steel City Falcon
Whatever it took!!! Even if it meant not resigning Grimes, Lofton, Abe, and McClure.
UnrealfalcoN
about 12-15 mil a year deal. Which is money Grimes plus abe would have got. MAYBE Abe will come back for ~3 mil too, so could bolster DE, but don't need him if we get Mario.

If you can get him for 14 a year, great.Probably true, not really sure how many teams will be throwing money at him. We could even throw 17 mil per year avg at him and still make it work.I saw an article stating Falcons around 25 mil under capCut Baker (3 mil), extend Matt Ryan (4 mil), restructure Dunta (2 mil), cut Garrett Reynolds (575k), cut Jon Babs (5 mil)39.575 mil cap spaceCurtis Lofton- 5 years, 30 million; 6 mil cap hit or Brent Grimes 5 years, 35 million; 6 mil cap hitMario Williams- 6 years, 102 million; 15 mil cap hitJared Gaither- 3 years, 14 million; 3 mil cap hitHarry Douglas- 3 years, 9 million; 2 mil cap hitAubrayo Franklin- 2 years, 8 million; 3 mil cap hitThomas Decoud- 2 years, 5 million; 2 mil cap hitZelenka- 2 years, 1 million; 500k cap hitVance Walker- RFA; 600k cap hitAntone Smith- ERFA; 600k cap hitMichael Palmer- ERFA; 600k cap hitJames Sanders- 2 years, 3 million; 1 mil cap hitTodd McClure- 2 years, 3 million; 1 mil cap hit Channing Crowder- 1 year, 1 mil; 1 mil cap hitDraft- 3.3 mil
Swift&Change
I have a plan to get a pass rusher and will come cheaper then Mario . There is talk he could get highest defensive contract ..Just doesnt make sense to spend that kind of $ on him ..If we can get him for 5 years 60 million yeah that would be a risk worth but Im not willing to break the bank for Mario . He is talented he works hard and is a stud ..Id rather drafta stud pass rusher..Im putting together a off season plan
phattywankenobi
I'm not sure what everybody is getting excited about honestly. Last year people got all hyped about 8 sack Edwards. He's had some success, then changed from DE to OLB. OK numbers. Sometimes people ride on the hype of a guy who's name has been touted on ESPN before being drafted. I guess maybe one of you guys can describe why he is a big deal and would he be a DE in the 4-3 or an OLB in the 3-4. As in why is this guy worth 75M contract or 10M+ a year contract. Not trying to be a smartazz but other than a couple of highlight reels I see a ton of hype because he is the best free agent on the market and not necessarily the best player. Remember when Dunta was the big deal because he was the best availabe on the market? Not exactly Revis or Bailey.

It's not his fault that the team went 3-4 and then got injured.
Falcons 'til Death
Thing is if it was Abe who was the 27 or 28 year old who was due for FA most people here would have not as big of an issue signing him.
falconfanEST1989
abe will be resigne for a short deal,, hes not stupid he knows that he only has maybe 2 years left to play good ball no one is gonna pay him the money at his age.. the falcons are going to sign Oline this offseason Williams at btst is a 2nd choice for us in fa
SoCalFalconFann
If it took giving up Lofton, Grimes, and Abe, I'd STILL take William's over those three...He's young and arguably one of the top three proven pass rushers in all of professional football. He's gonna get paid a little more than both Peppers and Charles Johnson.I'm still mad we passed on Julius Pepper's and didn't draft McCourty that particular off season. I personally think that was our best chance at a Superbowl run.
Psychic Gibbon
As much as I like Williams, I would really prefer not to dole out the massive contract to get him at the expense of losing key players at other positions. It would be one step forward and two steps back. Edited February 10, 2012 by Psychic Gibbon
