Biggest Off Season Moves Remain!

Recommended Posts

IMHO the most important moves we can make above any signings is :

1st the defense line coach (yes replace CRH) to bring along the talant we have and any we pick ups He needs to.install some nasty mean mentally ! If we can't coach up what we have then find it. Just hasn't happened with CRH

2nd the offense line coach to get the fire back in these guys and fix the problem long term - no more short term fixes! We lost our inforcer in Dahl. Need a center and gaurd that people just fear in training camp and the season. I can't think of any training camp that Dahl wasn't fighting someone.

I hope we spend the money on these two hires. its been since Ganville that we had that additude on our d-fense front.

I see us replacing O-line coach Boudreau as they are already working on that but not the D-line coach Ray Hamilton because he was Mike Nolan's d-line coach in new york for the jets in 2000. Guess who else was drafted to the jets his rookie season and worked with Nolan? yes you guessed it John Abraham and this is my belief that John will be back for either 1 or 2 years because he can still get it done and will be familiar with Nolan's 4-3 scheme.

Drafted in the first round of the 2000 NFL Draft, he made an immediate impact for the New York Jets; in his rookie season, he recorded 12 tackles and 4.5 sacks

Mike Nolan: New York Jets Defensive Coordinator

2000

I believe I know 3 reasons why Nolan chose this job #1 the obvious one is Mike Smith.

On whether his relationship with Smith brought him to Atlanta:

It was the whole picture. Obviously, knowing Mike has a lot to do with it, but I’ve also known Thomas for a number of years, but not nearly as well as I’ve known Mike. But I’ve been an acquaintance of Thomas’ for about the last 15 years or so. The things that impress me is it’s an outstanding football team. From (owner & chairman) Arthur (Blank) all the way down, they’ve put together a great group. They have some very explosive players on the football team.

#2 The reason why he chose to agree to put his 3-4 of success defense a side to go back to 4-3 where he has had minimal success since his days in NY Giants with Dan reeves.

''We had a young group,'' Nolan said of his Washington players. ''They had to improve the linebacking corps. They've done that, but with young players. With young players, you tend to take the growing pains that go with it. This year, the average age was 24. They have only one, two or three years experience. In time they'll be good. I don't know if they'll ever match the group they have here ( Nolan is talking about the Jets). This group obviously has more experience and with a number of high draft picks. It's encouraging to see these guys and you know you have good players.''

That #2 reason after he left the Redskins is why he went to the jets is one of the reasons he is here the Falcons have a lot of experience on this roster and a high # of draft picks that he can work with.

#3 John Abraham was one of his rookies in New york and this is one reason I believe that John will agree to take a pay cut to come back because Mike Nolan will request him back and he will come back.

I believe that with that being said that TD and Smitty are going to try and bring as much of this defense back together that they can from FA because of the experience they have built here. You think about it for a minute and tell me what you think.

The past 4 seasons here CRH has not produced or improved a single draft pick or signing. There is no fire or attitude along that line that I see. IMHO change is needed not past relationships. I sure hope he sees this as well. Abe is real expenses for the amount of time he's on the feild and that anit much.

yea but my question is how much of that was CRH fault and how much of that was scheme? i would be surprised if he goes because you do want to work with those you know which is why they fired the DB coach and now I'm hearing from D.LEd that the falcons are bringing in a guy that they hired in 2008 as the quality controls coach to be the new DB coach for mike nolan who was with Mike in maimi also name Joe Danna. To me it depends on the scheme you run that determines the production and I don't think that Smitty and BVG were honest in the fact that they didn't have a dominant 4 upfront as they relied on that front alone to get the job done instead of realizing that there is nothing wrong with blitzing if you have to to get to the QB. They did not maximize the talent here as Spoon showed that he was a great blitzer Willy MO. James sanders, Thomas decoud , curtis lofton need I say more. They did not blitz enough and when they did it was to predictable for the QB to pick up. So I can't say that was all CRH fault on this one because to me he gave Smitty and BVG what they wanted. Smitty and BVG fail in love with the thought of having a Jags 2.0 and that didn't work here. If I'm not mistaken Smitty's defense only had one successful year with sack totals when he was with the Jags at 48 sacks since than it was in the 30s just like the falcons now.

The fire is coached into players you have, not schemed. Attuude is drafted and fed. None of which we have.

I am surprised that Hamilton was spared. DLine has been an issue his entire tenure. At least in Boudreau's case you could argue a lack of talent. He doesn't really have an excuse.

I think Sidbury could have been a JPP clone if he hadn't come from Division 2, and it's taken 3 years to get any production from him.

I couldn't agree more. But I'm sure Boudreau had a lot to say on who we re-signed on his line. We lost the soul and attitude on that line and it showed. I think Art pointed that out and the black dots on our board of who we draft. There will be a change. But we need to feed the fire NOW.

Bad news on Sid is if we get him on the feild now, next year he will be on that 2 nd contract. I think he gots that attitude that we are looking for but haven't been able to coach. I hope I'm wrong on CRH if they keep him, but proof in the pudding.

Yeah, I'm surprised Hamilton is still around as well. I'm holding out hope he'll be replaced, but it's looking more and more like that won't be the case.

I tend to disagree the scheme is a big part of it an Nolan stated it best during his phone presser that you have to build your scheme around your players not the other way around. Fed the ego of the players by bringing out the gifts and they will play as a team then the fire will come and spread to everyone and the Falcons did not do that. You can't have guys i.e. Dunta playing in a scheme that does not produce for him when you know that he came from a press coverage team and expect him to excel in a scheme that does not fed his ego of confidence.

I'm sorry I though we were talking about the d-fense line i.e. Edwards, Sid, Jerry , Babs,Walker and Peters. Have you looked at this units #'s It appears they are falling each year in the same system by each player. none with up side that I see, maybe I'm wrong / PROOF IS IN THE PUDDING!
