Someone Make Me Like The Dirk Koetter Signing

1st off.. I absolutely love the Mike Nolan hire. But I'm trying to wrap my head around why we would sign an "offensive" coordinator out of Jacksonville. Last time I checked Jacksonville had no offense.

Granted we have much better skill position players, but this hire to me seems like a step in the wrong direction

Koetter, 52, was Jacksonville's offensive coordinator from 2007 to 2011. He will replace Mike Mularkey, who left to become Jacksonville's head coach.

"He's a great, great person and a very good football coach," said Gil Brandt, of Sirius NFL radio and NFL.com. "He's kind of a quiet guy. He just works, but he's very, very good. That's a good hire for them."

I tell you what. PayPal me $1,283.94 and I'll make you like Dirk Koetter. Good to see you back. I saw Gaz here a couple months ago and think I saw Bellis last week. Ole schoolers comin out the wood work.

While some questioned the Falcons hiring of Koetter because Jacksonvilles offense ranked 32nd in the NFL in total offense last season, Reid believes the move was a stroke of genius.

I would tell you that No. 1, hes brilliant, (andy) Reid said. Hes got a great offensive mind.

One of the very few opinions I respect in football. I hope he's right. To Clownorg's question: it's like trying to get someone to like guacamole without them every trying it. Looks nasty but to some it's delicious.

Changed jobs and rarely get online.. but I had time today so I poped in..

I figured if ANYONE could make me like this signing it has to be this place

Well I never left. Been through it all since I joined in 2001. Banned a few times so you might not recognize my current nic.

I miss the old boards. Lot more fun. These generation Y boys have killed the buzz.

Cappy's still around. Gaz and Bellis made appearances. I think Banker, Shiny and Rev have retired on moderator contracts. Maybe Sac, Cooter, SCFalcon, DireWolf, Shay, Antmellinium, BucShaq, TonaBull, JohnnyBuc and the rest of the old crew will come back one day. I doubt it though.

Anyway, as for Koetter, he will only be as good as TD, Smitty, Ryan, the Oline and the receivers. If they execute like they did this year he will look like Greg Knapp, Trust me.

I think these boys want June jones for a coordinator though. They would love him. Spread. Run 4 and 5 wide. Chuck. Duck. Throw deep. Rack up pass yards. Lose NFL Football games.

Hey Clowny.....long time bro.

I don't know if I can make you like Koetter but maybe I can make you feel better.

Last September Jacksonville was 28 million dollars under the Salary Cap. Did that make Jacksonville a player in FA? No. Then they dumped David Garrard and his 8.075 million dollar salary to put them over 36 million dollars under the salary cap.

Blaine Gabbert may wind up being a decent QB in the NFL. But he was no where near ready this season to be behind center. Take into account the shortened offseason due to the work stoppage and it's a wonder he was able to win 5 games this season.

Against the Falcons in the first half Gabbert was 3-6 with 21 yards passing.

Before this ugly season in Jacksonville, Koetter was viewed as a potential head coach. He did some good things in his first four seasons in Jacksonville. In that time span, Jacksonville’s offense ranked 13th in the NFL in total yards (338.6 per game), sixth in rushing (134.2), fifth in third-down conversions (43.0 percent) and fifth in average yards per rush (4.5). In his first season with the Jaguars (2007), Koetter directed a record-breaking season as the offense set franchise records for points (411 total and a 25.7 average), touchdowns (50) and touchdown passes (28).

Although I am normaly known as a positive sort of poster this time I got nothing for ya clown except welcome back its good to see ya

sam

Cannonball never left. Well he left for awhile after Vick was gone because he had nobody to bust on, but he came back when Ryan came aboard. There are a few others. Swift Hitter/Swifty/Swift is still around. I think. They keep banning him because they think he is a troll. LMAO.

Just thinking we don't have Mularkey anymore, an how sincerely po'd Blank was how the season ended, is hope enough for me.

O

of course I have Hope.. I'm just very skeptical of the move for now... Perhaps a few games into next season I'll have some reason to like the Hire. But for now at least Mularkey is Gone

Whats up Clowny...The move caught me off guard also.Koetter was beast at Arizona State but we all know that ain't the NFL...the only thing I can figure is he has more weapons here but seem to be well respected around the league....a breath of fresh air after MM...gonna hope for the best.

I've been back for a while.

I hate the hire. Last-place OC's should not be considered a "good hire" by a club with the aspirations ours has.

Even if he is a good coordinator, he runs a system that will accentuate Matt Ryan's weaknesses (long ball and reacting effectively to pressure). This system will see Ryan continue to struggle against top defenses, and we will still suck while simultaneously blowing chunks in big--- especially playoff--- games.

Worst possible hire.

We needed a West Coast Offense guy. The WCO accentuates Ryan's strengths (quick reads, good decisions, accurate short/intermediate passes).
