Cam Newton's historic rookie season will get one final act, as the Carolina Panthers quarterback will replace New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning on the NFC's Pro Bowl roster.

Chicago Bears defensive end Julius Peppers and New York Jets guard Brandon Moore have also been tabbed as replacements for Super Bowl-bound players.

Newton was the first alternate among NFC quarterback after Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees. The Giants overtime victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Sunday's NFC Championship Game made Manning unavailable for next Sunday's Pro Bowl and opened a spot for Newton.

Newton, the first overall pick in the 2011 draft, threw for 4,051 yards -- the most by a rookie in NFL history -- and 21 touchdowns with 17 interceptions this season to post an 84.5 quarterback rating. He added 706 rushing yards to become the first player in league history to pass for 4,000 yards and rush for at least 500 yards in a single season. Newton also set an NFL for most rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in a single season with 14.

That's what I am saying, Stafford should have been the guy for sure.

He led a team that historically is a loser to playoff berth, and a very good record. And had the offensive #s to show he made it happen for them.

oh well, Newton should be fun to watch scramble around I guess.

Newton took the worst offense in the league last year to what, #6 ? ........as a rookie ? .....man we looking at hard times in the NFC South we dont tighten our azzes up ........

boy i sure am glad carolina set their franchise back 4-5 years for selecting that guy. he's much worse than jimmy clausen. way to go carolina. /sarcasm off

I admit, I thought he would be a bust. He sure looks the part early, unfortunately for us.

with that said, Stafford still was more deserving of the nod this season. He took a constatly terrible franchise to the playoffs, and stats show he threw the Lions on his back and made it happen.

And I am not saying that as a Georgia or Stafford fan, trust me.

Let's not forget that they were the worst offense in the league because they didn't have a quarterback. It wasn't because they didn't have talent. Newton played behind a great line, with great running backs and a badass wide receiver. Yes, he was excellent, at times, this year. But it in no way did he deserve this. I'd take Ryan or Stafford (leaning towards Stafford) over Newton. But, I guess people are still attracted to shiny objects.

I'm glad the Panthers have a pro bowl Qb right now ;). That hasn't happened in a very long time.

Since pro bowl voting is based on regular season stats... and Eli having worse overall stats than both Stafford and Cam.......it seems that Stafford would have been the third slot, and Newton would have remained where he was as the 1st alt.

Newton would have probably still gotten in, because I think Stafford would have declined, the same as Calvin Johnson did. He has a history of being injured and I don't think he risks it, even in a game with no pass rush.

People get so caught up in stats. If all I had to do was throw a jump ball to Calvin Johnson, I could have thrown for 5000 yards too.

teee heee teee heee

julio jones had

nearly identical combine results as calvin,

throw it up there Gomer Pile, dont be afraid to throw in to double or triple coverage Gomer

That too. I don't know how many of you remember when Steve Smith was a young buck, and all Delhomme had to do with lob up wounded duck passes....and watch as Smith would make circus catch after circus catch. It wasn't really Delhomme, that was doing something amazing, it was Smith.
