The Don™
The Atlanta Falcons today announced that defensive backs coach Alvin Reynolds has been released from his contract and will not return for the 2012 season.Reynolds joined Atlanta’s coaching staff in 2008 and spent four seasons with the team.“We would like to thank Coach Reynolds for his dedication and hard work over the last four seasons,” Falcons head coach Mike Smith said. “We wish him all of the best.”
pr0d1gy
Why? Our young corners really showed some promise late in the year when Grimes went down. This and the BVG move really perplex me. Our defense was the main reason we made the playoffs this year.
1989Fan
BVG left the team, wasnt fired. And Nolan will look to bring in his own guys I am sure.Regardless, the pass defense was never better than 20th, so he didnt get it done one would think. JOEinPHX
There was always a bit of overkill in the Reynold/Lewis tandem DB coach approach. Basically, one guy coached safeties and the othe coached CBs, with both trying to coordinate on overall scheme. Things should be a bit cleaner now. phattywankenobi
Good luck and good riddance. All these DB's picked up over the last 4 years and little to show for it. Then guys like Chris Houston go to another team and are suddenly good.

VaderMan
This no surprise, Nolan wants his own people that knows his scheme. Even though Smitty has already forced Nolan to say in 4-3. I understand it for next year because we dont have the personnel for a 3-4 right now, and limited draft picks...but I hope to see a gradual change towards that. Smitty needs to get out of the way and let Nolan run the defense, to be honest nolan is better at it than him. Smitty was almost as much a problem as MM and BVG. I mean you are the head coach, you have final say...so that BS we saw all years had Smitty's approval. 4th and inches or 1, and Turner is on the bench? JJ in the back field and motions to the wing...leaving only Ryan in the backfield...which basically telegraphed the play. That combined with our weak OL = no first down. Smitty isnt a great HC but we can win with him, as long as he has 2 strong cordinators and stays out of their way
