JOEinPHX
Per a tweet from a Jags beat writer:https://twitter.com/...#!/taniaganguliPersonally, I'm disappointed. Putting aside all the knee-jerk reactions about Atlanta becoming 'Jacksonville North', Heck would have been a solid choice for the Falcons. His resume has been noted in other posts, but what I haven't seen noted is that he ran primarily a zone-blocking scheme. This is something I hope the Falcons will adopt under Dirk Koetter as an antidote to the power schemes required by Mike Mularkey's system. In my opinion, the Falcons linemen are much better suited physically to zone schemes, and I'd be tremendously interested in seeing if Turner could get back to being a one-cut back. So much has been made about 33 becoming a tiptoe runner, but I believe that was much more a function of complex Boudreau/Mularkey blocking schemes not playing to the teams strengths. I also think Jacquizz Rodgers, who has the best vision and fastest reactions of the Atlanta backs, could flourish in a zone scheme.I have no idea who else might be on Mike Smith's radar, but if Heck does indeed re-up with Jacksonville, I think we've missed on a good opportunity. NorCal Falcon Fan
Perhaps.... Good O-line coaches are few and far between. Heck has a very good resume and played in very successful lines. A premiere LT in his day.

leftfield
This is the case in point that led MM and the Jags to retain him. There doesn't seem to be a Heck of choice out there. That said isn't this the sort of position that would be safe-ish with someone from the college football ranks? Young up an comer coach who gets to be mentored by decent senior coaching team.
