Can Matt Ryan Ever Get The Fire Like Brady In This Video?

Before some of you get your panties in a bunch this is not a knock on Matt Ryan. I just wish Ryan would be more vocal with some of our players. Like after drops that should have been caught or after one of the offensive linemen miss a block that causes him to get sacked. Many times u will see Brady or Rodgers in the face of players that screw up, totally giving it to them on the sidelines. I never see Matt Ryan do this. Ryan seems like he wants to buy Baker and the boys a beer after he is sacked. Doesn't really show any emotions.

Yesterday in the Patriots game I saw Brady getting into it with a few of the Ravens players. He was basically telling them to bring it. Then on the one play were Brady it hit by Lewis after a run (video below) he got in Lewis's face with a little fire. Do any of you think Ryan can ever get this kind of fire? I personally think this shows real leadership and can get your players fired up at times.

I hope Ryan as he gets better in the next few years can get this kind of leadership and swag. Hopefully after a few playoff wins it will come.

Though Ryan doesn't yell at his players for messing up, he does encourage them, and that will be better in the long run imo. I do wish he would kick White in the arse once in a while.

It's a valid point you bring up PA......

Kind of along the same lines I got a general bad feeling when I listened to Ryan's interview on 790 the Zone last week. The guys interviewing him were respectful but pressed him about the perceptions of his arm strength and the lack of a consistent deep ball in the Falcons passing game.

Ryan didn't blow up or anything but he didn't really seem to accept that there was/is a problem in that area.

None of us know Ryan personally, but this 790 interview combined with his somewhat apathetic press conference after the Giants debacle has me believing that Ryan has "settled." I have no idea what his perception is of where he is in terms of his growth as a starting NFL QB....I could be totally off base here, but I don't see a burning desire in Ryan to take it up a notch...

I hope that I'm wrong.

...and he was talking to 790 the Zone, that should have stopped you in your tracks. Outside of being the "official" radio station the Falcons, they're not a source that you're going to have a deep conversation about your stregnths and weaknesses. (Atlanta sports talk radio is awful, even if they are being "respectful") The Falcons in general don't give ANY media outlet much to chew on which is completely fine. That doesn't mean the team isn't going player by player and evaluating the value/room for improvement in the off-season.

Having lived in cities like Washington D.C. and the Philly/NY area one of the biggest traps players can fall into is giving local media too much to run with. It's actually refreshing not to read/hear teammates throwing each other under the bus, coaches calling out specific players and players opening themselves up to criticism.

That could all be true......It's just that, coming after that pretty halfhearted press conference following the Giants game, it concerns me that Ryan might be slipping into a comfort zone or an area where his performance is acceptable to himself.

I know it's not his personality but it would be refreshing to see a little Phillip Rivers/Dan Marino fire come from #2.

Him and White had "beef" about something this season. But maybe they just handle it between them an dthe team and not let the fans know everything for some form of self approval.

it was not beef...it was something about a christmas present and people dug too much into that..Ryan is not a brady, but then again, he's not a choir boy either..Ive seen him talk some ish to the o-line about holdin their blocks long enough for him to throw the ball..

I guess from this part of your post you might have misunderstood what I was hoping to hear from Ryan in that interview...

I wasn't looking for, expecting or even wanting Ryan to throw Mularkey, Smith, his offensive line or anyone else "under the bus." I really just wanted to hear him say that he was going to work extra hard in the offseason to improve his craft....i.e....hit the weight room, put in extra time (when allowable by NFLPA rules) with Falcon receivers, etc.....Didn't really hear any of that.

I don't see how talking about the above is giving anything away or could possibly be used to hurt Ryan or the Falcons. Any reasonable person hearing that from Ryan would find it admirable and reassuring.

Ryan is a nice guy, I don't expect that from him. But I do want him to do whatever it takes to get to the next level. He doesn't have to be Brady. Brady is like Jordan, he is confident in his abilities and uses mental intimidation on his opponents. I want Ryan to feel the same way and the only way that will happen is by putting as much effort in the weight room as he does in the film room.

To be honest, Brady didn't develop that until 2007. It's pointed out in the War Room book. That whole team developed that "bad guy" mantra in 2007 after Spygate. They hated hearing about Spygate and that they were cheating to win and it tarnished their image. They got pissed and Brady and the team have had that aura ever since. It's similar to the "bad guy" image the Heat had last year.

I think it is in Ryan ("You can't f*cking stop it") but needs to be encouraged out. It wasn't with MM because he doesn't have it. Maybe not to the degree of Brady, but it's there. He has shown it a few times in big games, shouting at his OLine in New Orleans last year, pumping up the guys before the game. But when your OC doesn't have faith in his gameplan to beat the bigger teams, it will rub off on the offense, through interaction and the playcalling. It's just like how a dog can sense you are having a bad day or how even people can feel bad vibes from others and it can throw their day off. Same thing.

Just look at the 3:36 mark. You can see the fire coming out. It's there. Whether you want to believe it or not. It's there.

Honestly, when Ryan does it, it looks like a bad actor. Did you see when he walked over to Roddy, started talking, passed Roddy and Roddy made "the f**k outta here" expression. People see though BS. Ryan needs to grab the bull by the horn. It is just that simple.

Why give that to them though? It's 790 the Zone. It just creates a soundbite and something for the media to chew on. I understood your post and I'll say it again, I'd rather have an organization keep personal/team criticism internally, nothing good ever comes from players/coaches giving away info to the media, in particular local media like the Atlanta AM stations.

Atlanta radio is better than DC.

You end up seeing a lot more of this type of stuff from all of the Falcons players if you're at the game, a lot of sideline activity is missed on the TV broadcast. It's like the drama folks here THOUGHT they were seeing between Julio/Roddy... it just wasn't there.

Ok. I didn't say it was. All local AM stations are pretty awful, which is why it still astounds me that athletes feed them sound bites to work with.

I like 790 the Zone. What is so awful about it? It's better than anything on FM. I listen to ESPN radio here in DC and it's awful. The John Thompson show is a complete bore fest. LeVar Show is lame. The Brian Mitchell show is the worst. The Two Live Stews are the best thing going on radio with the Bell and Archer show.

Yeah, I don't think we have a big disagreement here or anything. Ryan might just be following direction given to him by Flowery Branch....

He (Ryan) doesn't even owe that to anyone.....I just think it's human nature as a fan of a team to want to see a leader of that team display some passion and/or fire.....

I have the same complaint about the Braves.....someone throw a bat, chunk a watercooler.

I joke with this buddy of mine (who's as rabid about Atlanta sports as I am) that there must be a sign for incoming free agent and rookie athletes at Hartsfield-Jackson: "Leave Your Emotions and Passion Here Before You Sign With the Falcons, Braves, Hawks."

I had front row seats in a couple of games. It wasn't that much action going on. Seemed like your normal sideline to me. Turner is extremely overweight.

Fox Sports a big booty white girl on staff. My goodness. Her and the chocolate cheerleader from the Falcons. She has most beautiful body I kid you not.

Sounds like you might not have been paying attention to the PLAYERS when you had those seatslaugh.png
