Outdoor Stadium Vs Dome

Recommended Posts

Why is it when someone talks about an outdoor stadium, people talk of not coming to the games? I have heard the excuse of how hot or cold it will be. The rain, and very slight possibility of snow. Isn't this what football is all about? I personally think that it would be nice if the Falcons could play a couple of games in Sanford or Bobby Dodd Stadiums to test the outdoor elements. It seems that we can't play well outside, and I think it time to start.

It might be because fans don't even show up to games in a climate controlled dome. Atlanta fans are not Packers fans, completely different crowd. Packer fans will spend the entire weekend getting ready for the game and will be there **** or high water. The people that attend Atlanta games are at times indifferent, especially the khaki pants crowd that is looking for somewhere they can spend a Sunday afternoon talking on their iPhone in front of 50,000 people. If Blank builds and open air stadium and doesn't build it somewhere outside of Atlanta he will never sell tickets and will find out how fickle those that live in Atlanta can be.

Tech and UGA fans still show up for the games. I think you're comparing apples and oranges - we were a really bad team when we had an outdoor stadium. No one showed up at the dome until we started winning regularly, either. Just win, and people will show up where ever you put the team...

Saying this after comparing the Falcons to a college football team in the south, where college football is king, is quite funny. Edited by Aftermath

My only opposition to an outdoor stadium is September games are effing miserable. I lived in Nashville and went to a few Atlanta Titans games (a couple preseason, and the infamous Byron "human t-shirt cannon" leftwich game. There was no shade whatosever, and everyone got blistered. I'd like to see a Seattle style outdoor stadium with seats partially covered. You can dress for cold, but there is nothing you can do to prepare for Atlanta heat without looking like a half naked redneck.

I know it's been debated on here time and time and time and time and time again. But I just want to remind those that like domes and retractable roof stadiums (I'm in that group too) that Arthur has always said he wanted and outdoor stadium. That is his dream and he's never waffled from that goal.

Whether or not we agree is beside the point. Arthur IS going to build an outdoor stadium regardless of our opinions.

So I ask each of you - why does this topic continue to be raised?

Georiga Dome, new Indoors or new outdoors makes no difference to me.

In this economy though please, please no taxpayer funds spend on this new stadium.

The state, county and city are all head over heels in debt.

Do not need to spend taxpayer money on a new stadium.

As rich as these owners are, they could pay for the whole stadium themselves.

It mostly rained on us at Fulton County Stadium; no real snow. Playing outdoors did not make us a better team.

As a kid, I went to a lot of games at FCS. My Dad worked for MARTA, and was able to get tickets for free or at discounted rates. There were some rainy days, but we learned how to deal with it, and usually it wasn't too bad. I remember having a poncho (it worked well in the rain and on cold days), and a seat cushion that I would put over the wet seat. I also had a golf towel that I used to wipe the wet seat down with and also used it as my on terrible towel. We had a neighbor who would also attend with us, and he would hide an entire 12 pack under his poncho (no security lines back then), and once I became drinking age, I did the same at the SB of Motorcross. Good times.

It's all about how you deal with the experience. The Dome is great, but I think the comfortable atmosphere leads to our lazy fans not cheering or even paying attention to the game.

Also, if we do get a new stadium, I hope the parking is more conducive to tailgating. The way we do it now, is not so great IMO.

I'm not sure about this but I've heard that only 1 stadium was paid for with private funds Miami

ADDED not sure about new cowboy stadium

The New Cowboy stadium was $1 Billion, with over 100,000 seats.. yet they still couldn't get everybody in the superbowl lol.

I think this would be the smartest thing he could ever do, but I am sure it won't happen.

I like watching games at home. At the dome, I've been asked to sit down. That was a few years ago and I haven't been back since.
