Joe Flacco>Matt Ryan=Dan Marino<Trent Dilfer

Recommended Posts

Over the past few months I have saw a lot of people compare how good your QB is by how many rings they have (saints fans like to do this although brees is better than ryan at the moment) But i have seen some people say that Flacco is a better QB than Ryan bc of their playoff wins. Flacco is riding behind a great defense kind of like what Trent Dilfer done to get his super bowl ring but since dan marino does not have one trent dilfer was obviously a better QB than Dan Marino, correct???

This whole "which QB is better" debate is sucking the life out of all of us. Seriously. It's a stupid, lazy, tired debate. There are 21 other positions on the field at one time, not including STs and we keep beating this dead horse into the ground.

Everyone needs to learn to deal with the QB they have until the next guy comes along.

True, one thing is certain though, a bad OLine can ruin a good QB.

How is a debate lazy?

Yep.The Dolphins also went to the Super Bowl the year before Marino was drafted. Marino inherited a Super Bowl Team, Flacco inherited the best D of the last decade. Matt inherited a freaking mess, with a bitter unappreciative fan base.

Three years removed from the NFC Championship Game and a young core with a RB like Turner is a mess? Come on son and Baltimore defense wasn't the defense it was when Dilfer was there either. Flacco has carried the team at times.

How is a debate lazy?

There are so many levels of lazy in this debate, starting with the fact that it's the go to debate, and the fact that there are so many factors in playoff success, such as coaching, scheme, protection, skill player performance, opponent's talent, opponent's scheme, conditions, luck, officiating, the way the defense is playing, turnovers, field position, the other offense's time of possession... Yet we continually get in the same "playoff wins mean how good a QB is" argument, over and over , and over again. Matt Ryan gets drafted by the Ravens, there is a very good chance they win a Super Bowl, we pick up Joe Flacco, we lose the last 4 years and we are looking to draft another QB this year. Yes, that's impossible to prove and pointless to talk about. It's all inane, thoughtless speculation, with minimal intellectual effort. That kind of speculation is acceptable to a certain level on a message board, but the fact that it's constant #1 topic of decision makes this place unbearable.

I'm not excusing Matt's playoff performances, and I'm not dismissing Flacco's playoff success. They are on different teams with totally different situations. These debates get started solely to inflame, and never get anywhere. Matt wins the Super Bowl and everyone shuts up. Only a few QBs have won the big game by their 5th year, and it lacks perspective to speculate that Matt can't win one.

he didn't inherit a mess. He has a 1000 yard+ WR, quickly was given a bull of a RB and a hOF tight end.

AS for the thread, flacco and Ryan are almost even stat wise with a couple hundred yards and about 15 TDs favoring Ryan.

Both have more ints than tDs in the playoffs, but Flacco has had better weapons on D while Ryan has had more weapons on O. put em in a bag and shake it and it doesn't matter who falls out first, you got pretty much the same thing.

If you think Ryan is better than flacco that's your choice. It's really a coin toss at this point in their careers with similar stats and wins. Except in the playoffs. That's where the similarities stop. People like to say Ryan would have rings with flaccos defense. really? I have a hard time believing that our defense is the reason we lose in the playoffs. A stout defense isnt going to mask the fact that your qb shrinks in big games. I mean, let's be honest here, who really thinks we were beating the giants 2-0?

Hilarious when people act like either one is better than the other. neither of them are impressive qbs.

Flacco is better than Dilfer, and Ryan is and never will be better than Marino so this comparison is stupid.

Quite frankly Flacco = Ryan. They are polar opposites of each other.

Flacco is talented qb with a big arm but lacks decision making, also plays with a great defense and some nice pieces on offense.

Ryan is a cebebral pure pocket passer but lacks athleticism and mobility, plays with an ok defense with an offense with great offensive weapons.

You can go either way with which one you personally think is better but you can't say either one is head over heals better than the other.
