I'm going to be pissed if Espn is all over this when they barely even said anything about Nolan to falcons.

C'mon now! The Saints are not the Cowboys, Patriots, Eagles, or Tim Tebows. Your team is not the only one that hardly gets mentioned. This move will go largely unnoticed because it was not made by the Eagles.

It is what it is. We got our guy, they got theirs and the Panthers are getting back a bunch of players who missed this season on defense. The NFC South is going to be one seriously tough division next year.

Tampa could also be a tough out. They defeated both of our teams earlier in the season, and still have a lot of young talent. Of course, if they hire Mike Sherman, all bets are off.

What has Spagnuolo done? Overrated

No, he is not. Like a handful of guys--Wade Phillips, Dom Capers, and even Mike Nolan--he was not very good as a head coach. But he's great at coordinating defenses. It will be a tough task ahead for the Falcons' offense playing against Spags' defenses in New Orleans just as it will be difficult for the Saints to gameplan against Nolan's defenses in Atlanta.

The media loves the Saints, specially after Katrina.

I disagree. When we are successful, and they have nothing else better to do, they will speak glowingly of us and then bring up Katrina as if it happened last night. But for the most part, the Saints are not given any credit or special attention from the media, especially ESPN. The NFL Network is a bit more balanced though certainly guilty of talking about the Cowboys every season like they are going to finally get over the hump and win a Superbowl. Trust me, as a Saints fan, I know. I sit there each year and watch the Saints get discredited until they beat one of the media darlings only to hear someone like Chris Berman bring up Katrina rather than actually discuss the team itself.

Wow, perception is something. I don't say this trying to take a shot by any means but outside of the Jets, Giants, Patriots, Eagles, Cowboys & Steelers I can't think of any teams that get more media attention than you guys. The thing is New Orleans isn't even as big a media market as the other teams listed. I will say that they've definitely seemed to cut down on all the Katrina talk but I think you guys get plenty of press.

Once Tebow and GB lost, who's butt was the media's kissing for about 8 weeks?

All anyone heard is that the Saints are the best team in the NFL... Records, blah blah blah. Are you blind and/or deaf?

To a lesser degree, we know the feeling. Everytime they talk about us, they still bring up Vick and Petrino.

Just saw this on Saintsreport. This rivalry just heats up. It is going to be so interesting watching Steve Spagnuolo gameplan against the Falcons' offense and Mike Nolan gameplan against the Saints' offense. As if these games couldn't get any tighter. Maybe for season, I will start out each of our two games against the Falcons already sitting on the edge of my seat so that I do not have to waste time getting there by the end of the first quarter. Should be interesting!

Nolan slowed down a lot of good offenses this last season. Will be interesting

Why do people keep saying that? The undesirables from New Orleans came here after Katrina and never went home. That is a natural disaster with lasting impact.

But Atlanta has such high character people like you to make for it.....ohmy.png

Agree completely... with risk of alienating myself among the "party faithful" amongst us on this board. The "Katrina Bowl" this and that quibbling you hear from some on these message boards is classless and rooted in a sore loser ethic. Undoubtedly, it's an irritating talking point for Network bozos when they commentate games...as is the Ryan is a rookie transcending the dark shadow of Vick tripe.

I don't care about media attention...it's like vainly currying for favor with the popular, rich kid set in high school. We're not going to ever win them over. So the secret is just quietly winning year after year after year. This pining whiny forlorn stepchild act is old and weak.

Maybe it's perception because I do not see the team get talked about until it shows that it is successful. Other teams get immediate press from the start of the season. The Saints are usually doubted going into every season until they prove they belong in the conversation.

Consider that the Saints were the hottest team in the league to end the season (along with the Patriots) and the league did not really start jumping somewhat on the bandwagon until Drew broke Marino's record. Because it came against the Falcons, that might make it appear that the Saints got a lot of attention. What I remember, however, is several members of the media almost campaigning for the Saints to rest Drew Brees so that Tom Brady could break Marino's record. Sproles broke the all-purpose record and there was hardly any mentioning of that. Better, the Saints averaged more yards per game/yards in a season than any other team in NFL history. They shattered the previous record held by the Rams. That barely drew any attention. Heck, even Pat Yasinkas did not write anything about it.

Now, step back, and imagine if that were the Packers or the Patriots or the Eagles. We would be hearing all about it. The Saints set a record for first downs and third down percentage. Everytime I saw a blurb about any of this, it was mentioned sort of casually. Kind of like, "Oh, by the way, the Saints set the record for most yards in a season. And in other news, Tim Tebow is the man!" Here you have the most prolific offense in NFL History and it is treated as nothing. I remember when Drew set the record for most completions in a season. Hardly a mention. Last year, Peyton Manning set the record and it was discussed on television. This year, Drew shattered the old record by Manning and, again, hardly any mention. They could not help but mention Marino's record. But like I said before, they did so while constantly qualifying it with, "But Brady could very well pass Drew Brees up and be the real single-season passing yardage record holder."

I will grant you and everyone else here this: I hate the Falcons and I know you all hate the Saints. So anytime the opposing team gets mentioned, it is too much. So maybe it is just a case of being sick and tired of hearing about the other team even if it is the first time. LOL!

To a lesser degree, we know the feeling. Everytime they talk about us, they still bring up Vick and Petrino.

Yes, I know. And that's pretty dumb. I actually remember watching a game where they discussed Petrino pretty extensively as if he was still coaching the Falcons.

Yes, he did. In fact, he had Miami's defense playing very well down the stretch. Miami played a lot of teams very close and a lot of that credit goes to him. I also would not be surprised if Paul Soliai follows Nolan to Atlanta. If so, the Saints will certainly have to make sure we keep Nicks and Evans up front to deal with him. He's a load and a very solid, underrated NT.

You seem like a smart fellow, but your above comment is seriously delusional... proving the belief that even "smart Saint fans" are still stoooooopid.

And before you think I'm biased; realize I have a daughter in Loseiana that's a Saints' fan also. She's stoooopid too.

Well that's understandable, considering the seed that started it.

When was he great? I know he had a good game plan against the Patriots in the Super Bowl! But haven't been able to find any thing else.
