fail lineup. if that happened i may not renew sunday ticket cause i would be pissed every sunday. i can understand getting rid of abe and maybe losing grimes due to money but letting lofton go. that is absurd. he might as well close our eyes and throw a dart at the draft list and whoever it lands on we get because we would just throw away picks. WTF get rid of lofton. that is almost ban worthy.

I know they are saying we will remain a 4-3, but I hope we make the switch. Dominant 4-3 edge rushers are few and far between unless you are the NY Giants. There are publications that suggest Grimes will price himself out of our range. Abraham could sign elsewhere too. If that happened it would be easier to sign/find 3-4 players than 4-3. Lofton could earn more money as a 4-3 ILB than as a 3-4 ILB. Goldson is a bigger hitter and better ballhawk than DeCoud.

Jarrett Johnson is at SOLB in the ravens 3-4. He may have come into that role after Mike Nolan had moved on. Ray Edwards did not sack the QB as much as we had hoped but he played the run better than that position has in a while. He would be an asset against the run and rushing the QB. From the 3-4 alignment thus further outside the tackle box, it might help him get to the QB more. Will he drop into coverage? No, but how often does DeMarcus Ware play in coverage? That is why we have ILB's that can drop in coverage. Weatherspoon excels in coverage but can blitz here and there, while Nicholas is adequate in coverage and also a good blitzer from time to time. Sidbury and Biermann's time on ST's has them running enough to atleast try dropping into zones.

Soilai, Lofton, Abe, Landry, Finnegan, and Drob thats sound like a lot of money and no protection for Matt Ryan.

Do watch football?

Jared Allen = 22 sacks, Jason Babin = 18 sacks, Pierre-Paul = 16.5 sacks, Chris Long = 13 sacks, Julius Peppers = 11 sacks, Trent Cole = 11 sacks, Cliff Avril = 11 sacks, John Abraham = 9.5 sacks, Robert Mathis = 9.5 sacks, Osi Umenyora = 9 sacks, CHarles Johnson = 9 sacks, Dwight Freeney = 8.5 sacks

All of whom are 4-3 DE.....

A possible defensive lineup would be the following:

Re-sign: Lofton (5 yr deal), Kroy Beirmann (2 yr deal)

FA sign: Mario Williams (6 yr deal), Laron Landry (4 yr deal), Will Allen (3 yr deal)

Draft: 3rd rd. Brandon Boykin CB UGA

Line-up:

RDE: Mario Williams / Lawrence Sidbury

DT: Jonathan Babineax / Vance Walker

DT: Corey Peters / Peria Jerry

LDE: Ray Edwards / Kroy Beirmann

OLB: Sean Weatherspoon / Spencer Adkins

ILB: Curtis Lofton / Akeem Dent

OLB: Stephen Nicholas

CB: Dunta Robinson / Chris Owens

FS: Laron Landry / Shan Shillinger

SS: William Moore

CB: Will Allen / Dominique Franks / Brandon Boykin

Just a thought....I'm not big on the Allen FA signing....but if Grimes is not kept, I think we will sign a descent vet as a FA cornerback

I actually think Corey Peters would be great at RDE in a 3-4. I think Jerry might be a decent back up 3-4 end unless his 1st rd rookie contract is too high and he is a cap casualty. Vance Walker will likely sign a 1 year contract and would hypothetically have a chance to carve a niche at NT or DE in the rotation.

True but I didn't use much logic in this kind of just put it together quickly... If we weren't going to run any 3-4 soilai wouldn't be nessecary.

I like this whole line-up you got goin here except keepin burnt to a Crisp Owens. I'd cut him and put Walls in his place.

Yes I love football.

That is 12 players out of a minimum of 128 players that play that position, two of which are NY Giants. Only 7 recorded double digit sack totals and the list fizzled quickly with a meager 8.5 sacks. Only 3 are free agents including Abraham, so what you must be saying is that if he leaves we have only Robert Mathis or Cliff Avril to choose from to replace the void in our 4-3. If we are unable to sign any of those three players it would seem that the personnel for a 4-3 front is few and far between, nay, unavailable.

Paul Solial might be out of our price range. If so Aubrayo Franklin played for Nolan and may not fit Spagnolo's system. Antonio Garay is another NT that will be highly sought after, but there are a lot that could potentially hit the market. there are a number of 3-4 ends that could be available too.

3-4 Ends

Kentwan Balmer

Calais Campbell

Red Bryant(NT/END)

Adam Carriker

Kendall Lankford

3-4 NT's

Antonio Garay

Paul Solial

Aubrayo Franklin

Kelly Gregg

Shaun Rogers

Solial, Franklin, and Gregg all should have worked under Nolan and hopefully getting two of them to come here would be feasable. I feel like we could amass 6-8 down linemen for fair contracts and still have money to address other needs and be better off.
