1989Fan
to assume our goal is to get the right pieces for Nolan's defense, and to build the offensive line, this would be my wish list on D.I will assume about 35M in cap space (25M now, and some cuts to come)RUNNING BACKS - $3.5M CAP- Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns (will need to take a low money 1 or 2 year deal to raise his value again. Better reciever than Turner. This assume releasing Turner due to a 7.5M cap hit) 2M hit- Jason Snelling, Atlanta Falcons (1.5M hit)WIDE RECEIVERS - $2M CAP- Harry Douglas, Atlanta Falcons (underrated and wont be as pricey as some think)(or)- Eddie Royal, Denver Broncos (HD is my preference, but Royal is good, just isnt meshing in DEN)OFFENSIVE LINE - $9M CAP- Demetrius Bell, OT, Buffalo Bills (bring in to compete with Svitek)4M hit- Ben Grubbs, OG, Baltimore Ravens (love Nicks, but not at 2x the price) 5M hitDEFENSIVE LINE - $5M cap- Jason Jones, DT, Tennessee Titans (would make for a good 3-4 DE with his size and power) 2M hit- Abroyo Franklin, NT, New Orleans Saints - 3M hitLINEBACKERS - $10M capILB 7M cap- Curtis Lofton, Atlanta Falcons (our top UFA priority IMO) - 6M hit- Mike Peterson, Atlanta Falcons - cheap ILB insurance behind Dent - 1M hitOLB - $3M cap- Anthony Spencer, Dallas Cowboys (showed flashes, but inconsistant in DAL)(or)- Ahmad Brooks, San Francisco 49ers (has become a very good OLB for SF)CORNERBACKS - $4M CAP- Brandon Carr, Kansas City Chiefs (move to M2M is a great fit for Carr, not so much for Grimes) $4M hitSAFETIES $1.5M cap- James Sanders $1.5M hit (DeCoud made plays, but played sloppy and dont think it will be tolerated)This would give the following rosters going into the draft: (with spending $24M in cap space, leaving room to play)3-4 base defense:RE - Ray Edwards/Jason JonesNT - Abroyo Franklin/LE - Corey Peters/ Peria JerryOLB - Sean Weatherspoon/ Lawrence SidburyILB - Curtis Lofton/ Spencer AdkinsILB - Akeem Dent/ Mike PetersonOLB - Ahmad Brooks or Anthony SpencerCB - Dunta Robinson/ Chris OwensCB - Brandon Carr/Darren WallsNB - Dominique FranksFS - James Sanders/SS - William Moore/Shan Shillingernotable losses - Abraham, Grimes, DeCoud, Babinueax(trade), Biermann*Ray Edwards has a 5 year, 30M deal, with 11M guaranteed. We would not benefit by cutting him.Offense:QB - Matt Ryan/RB - Peyton Hillis or Michael Turner/JaQuizz Rodgers/Jason SnellingFB - Ovie MughelliWR - Roddy White/Kerry Meier/WR - Julio Jones/Harry DouglassTE - Tony Gonzalez/Michael PalmerLT - Demetrius Bell/Will SvitekLG - Justin Blaylock/Joe HawleyOC - Todd McClure/Joe HawleyRG - Ben Grubbs/Mike JohnsonRT - Tyson Clabo/Jose Valdez notable losses: Baker, Reynolds, Turner (unless he re-structures), Redman*Turner is due a 7.5M cap hit for 2012, and his guaranteed (15M) should be off the books. I would assume he will renegotiate and the team does not want to cut the NFC leading rusher.

lasher1116
I would like to see this happen. In fact, this is exactly the kind of situation I see us doing. Here is hoping
lasher1116
don't think beerman can play standing up?He played his entire career in college standing up...but he lacks awareness, which is seriously hurting him...which is why I believe he will be let go. Herr Doktor
Biermann standing up would be a good thing. He's quick. Not sure if he's let go....
I MUS WRITE
I could live with it if the off season went this way. Hillis would be a nice pick up,I would sign him and keep Snelling if the price is right. After rewatching some of our games is obvious Turner is slowing down and doesnt get much positive yardage unless there is a gaping hole...... runshoot
I'm tired of watching Beirman get pushed downfield 5 yards by a TE.There is nothing "notable" about losing him. Good riddence
1989Fan
well, after I put all the thought into that post, Mike Nolan comes out and says we will be a 4-3 team still, lol.thanks for the kind words on my ideas though guys!
Creative
Really good post and all, but...We're not converting to a 3-4 entirely. I think you should reconsider Abe or maybe Robert Mathis instead of space eating tackles.
1989Fan
as mentioned above....., after I put all the thought into that post, Mike Nolan comes out and says we will be a 4-3 team still, lol.I would still like to go to more press M2M on defense, so a quick update on Defensive UFA, which could open up more cap roomRE - Abraham, Mathis or Avril ($5M),SidburyLE - Edwards, MatthewsDT - Babinueax, JerryDT - Peters (walker let go, Jerry gets more snaps now that he should be 100%)OLB - Weatherspoon, Peterson ($1M)MLB - Lofton ($6M), DentCB - Robinson, OwensCB - Carr ($4M), WallsNB - FranksFS - Sanders ($2M), rookieSS - Moore, SchillengerNot really a ton of changes other than replacing Grimes (who is my 2nd fav player on the team) for a man corner in Carr, and letting DeCoud go for Sanders and some rookie competition hopefully. 1989Fan
Anyone think Eddie Royal would be a better slot reciever than Harry Douglas?Kind of a tough call for me on that one. Both could take over KR/PR duties from Weems though.

Either would be an idea compliment to JJ and Roddy.
