Trouble
I hope we run a hybrid scheme and can limit his reps that way. But have to wonder if a change in scheme might make him expendable.Im not starting a "lets fire abe thread" Dude has been 1 our greatest FA signings ever. If he leaves ill miss him. But being a FA, have to wonder though. Edited January 18, 2012 by danight
FalconsManhood
Yes, do not resign the guy who never shows up when it counts. Abe is over-rated and overpaid. Just like Tony G and Mike Turner. We need to overhaul the roster.
Guest mashburn
very good question.the way I look at is that we will not go full into the hybrid. I think it will be there sometimes in 3-4, but nothing like Nolans true hybrid form. we will work to the true hybrid, but starting out we will do it lightly.with that being said abraham can be used in the 4-3. but this means he would have to take a decent pay cut. which I think he would be up for. but I would think he would only be signed for two years and then will be fully let go. FlyHighFalcons
He could play in a hybrid scheme. He's too old to consistently play the 3-4 OLB spot like he used to, but he can still do it.
jluk
Theres probably little doubt the Falcons would want Abe back. He can play in a 3-4 defense. But the question is would Abe want to play in a system he doesnt like. Even if he was ok with it, the cost to attain his skills would be much lower because he would not play in a full 4-3 DE (Which is still considered a premium position if you have the pash rush abilities).I can see Abe testing the market and seeing if people would pay top dollar for his skills. Bawse
Abe is over-rated and overpaid. Just like Tony G and Mike Turner. So you're saying Tony Gonzalez... the best TE to ever play football, is overrated? Kind of lost me there.

The Don™
I saw Abe numerous times this season rush from a standing position. As long as Abe rushes, and is not asked to cover often, the QB in the 34 defense, I think he will be fine.

He also had a decent post season, so like Turner and Gonzalez he is still able.

We need to overhaul the roster. Last year play offs I think he was the only one with the sacks and pressures, both games vs brees he had all the pressures but he kept stepping up in the pocket. Vs the Giants he had the sack and all the pressures. Trust he was the only one showing up in the big games pressures wise. But teams chip and slide to him so that he dont make a play and everyone around him still dont make a play. But to anwser the question I do believe this maybe Abes last year. Clark Kent™
Absolutely not. Pass rushers aren't that easy to come by. If we drop him then a team like the Pats is going to pick him up and get plenty of use out of him. Pass rushers can play alot longer than most think. If we can resign him for a decent price which we should and limit his snaps If he is wanting anything close to a big paycheck or even semi big paycheck then **** no. Regardless of what you think about Abe, he was the best pass rusher we have had for the past several years.

madman88
Gotta let abe walk.. he might somewhere around 6-7 we cnt afford to spen 14 mil on two guys who wnt be here long (abe,TG)while we let oyr future(grimes) walk.. makes no sense to me.. we can draft a pass rusher there plenty this year.... FalconJim
I don't think it's the end for the "Predator". He'll be back for another year, or two....but, maybe in a reduced roll, with the 3-4 4-3 hybrid coming. I'd like to see him retire a Falcon too, if possible. He's busted his butt for this team, for a number of years, and I hope they'll treat him right...

Claude, Chuck, Doleman you name it.NFL QB as beater. Under three regimes.
BiGPoPPa101
You got to remember Abe came from the jets where he did play 3-4 beginning of his career. I'm not saying to resign him or let him walk but for a cheaper price I would take him. U got to remember nfl got cap space for every team.
