INDFalcon
as per mine, Smitty wanted to be out of Atlanta. So he brought in Dirk Koetter. Fire off yours.

Carl927
Bogus conspiracy theory:Koetter began his interview by whipping out a tube of brylcreem and applying it to TD's hair, claiming that he couldn't think with that weird Bieber-head bobbing every few seconds. AB and MS stopped the questioning and gave him the job immediately.

CrimsonFalcon
AB actually owns the Jags and uses them as a farm team. He felt that Koetter did a decent enough job to be called up to the big leagues.

falken
How about this...Smitty has worked with Koetter in the past and knows he's a brilliant OC that never had the tools to work with in Jacksonville. He thinks that a fresh perspective will help a team that is close but hasn't gotten over the hump in the playoffs. He realizes that Koetter wouldn't be a popular hire but that it's ultimately his job on the line and he thinks that Koetter will flourish with the tools the Falcons have provided. Falconry
It's similar to a wife swap. You took mine, so I'm taking yours. The real conspiracy is with whether Mularky was really planning to win playoff games, or did he pack it up after the Jacksonville game when he knew that he was the leading candidate for the HC job. I think the Falcons got cheated twice; by an outgoing OC and an lax vetting of an incoming OC.

All we can do is hope you're right. Personally, I don't like the hire, but I'm willing to give him a year or two to prove me wrong...
