Objective Critic
Just an early prediction, and I know some of the fans will say this is premature, but I do not really care:Atlanta will not make the playoffs next year will will be lucky to get around 8-8.TD is making all the wrong moves. Resigning Gonzo to 7 mill was bad (I know Gonzo is a future HOF, but the guy is old), and now making a bum of a OC, that will make MM look like Bill Walsh, which make things worse.Atlanta has officially entered the quagmire of mediocrity trying to emulate the Jacksonville Jaguars - Jaguars done sh*t. Smitty to trying to simply lurk in his comfort zone when his comfort zone is what is killing this team.No way even the homers can defend this hire and simply say to have faith. This administration is crapping on any hope the team has. This will be a slow death and an eventual return to NFL doormat status.TD and Smitty may be the best the franchise ever had at their duties, which is not saying much, but now they are resembling the carousel of failures that fans hoped their initial success replaced.I would not put too much stock in the post season; The way TD is operating, it is going to be a long frustrating wait till next season only to be disappointed again in the futility that is the Falcons. Objective Critic
I forgot to mention, this hire is totally based on cronyism; Nothing our new OC has done as shown he was the best candidate or deserved to be even considered. Last place offense in the NFL is what Smitty calls "fresh new ideas"? Maybe new ways to tank an offense.I must admit, at this point I am cynical of any possibility in hiring a good DC let alone the draft of free agency. fansince78
If that is the way you see things, I am not going to try to convince you otherwise. My opinion is a little different though and don't jive with yours real well. I don't predict things like a season of football, so I won't go there. I do expect the team to have a good year barring injuries to key players and expect they will not only make the playoffs, but win at least one game. Gonzo is worth every bit of what he is going to get in 2012. He may be old, but he is still one of the best in the business. The Falcons have entered many seasons searching for their identity and this season will be no different. Once they find it, it will not resemble the Jags in any way. Homer or not, the average fan can see that DK being hired did not remove Ryan, White, Jones, Gonzo and Turner from the team. The village idiot could be successful with that offense and if DK turns out to be the village idiot, it is quite a step up from Mularkey as far as this offense. People who are already the best in the history of the franchise are ultimately more qualified to do their jobs than their critics. I am not happy Koetter being named OC, but I cannot totally dismiss the possibility that he will be the missing part that makes this machine work. The DC has yet to be named and may also be met with the same type of criticism. The end of this story will not be known until the season is well underway. Past failures in my own life have taught me that I am only destined to repeat failure if I do the same things, the same way that produced failure. The new season for this team will bring changes from the way things were done last season, so that means there is a chance past failure will not just be repeated and a chance that the success will be greater than this team has achieved. We have two conflicting opinions and outlooks...that is all.

ATLBrave
Cronyism? The guy worked with Koetter for one season........I'm sorry, but one season in the NFL is not long enough to build any lasting relationship.

Booxer
Some points valid. I'm thinking maybe 9-7 or 10-6 but that won't get playoffs next year in this division. Carolina is gonna be ballin. Saints are always great and the bucs will be a 9 win team. This division might be the best div in football next year and little changes aren't going to get a team to the playoffs. We can improve but not without FA work because the draft is bust
Hybird
Why couldn't we swap offense coordinators with the Pats or a high scoring offensive team. Jax has always choked as we have the past 4 years. With this hire we can look to choke some more the new season. In order for us to win a Super Bowl, we have must a QB that is not double digits in turn overs, interceptions. I understand a change at QB would not be the best interest of the team. However, to make it to the SuperBowl, this is a must. After falling short for 4 years, loosing may be the only M.O. for our promising QB.At what point must we look and say, this is not our guy. How many missed SuperBowls, How many next years. I like to see drastic moves as with last years draft to make a statement as to the resolve of a serious SuperBowl run. In our division, we must have a high explosive scoring offense to compete with Drew, and Cam N. Matt is no way the caliper of these guys. In 4 seasons, Matt R has not shown that he can win the Big Games. And is mediocre at best. Edited January 17, 2012 by Hybird

If the team were going to re-sign him, it would have before the end of the season.
Hybird
I agree! We need designer bags for our heads this year unless some drastic positive changes are made.

Magic Man
The lunatic fringe is in full effect. There were the same predicitions in 08, then in 09, we were predicted for the playoffs, and injuries derailed that train. In 10 we were predicted to be pretty good, but not 13-3/#1 seed good, and we were. This year, before the season, when we traded for Julio, the same lunatics were here saying "8-8, maybe 9-7, but that won't be enough, because Tampa is getting better, and they will be better than us.This year, swap the Julio trade for the Koetter hire, and Tampa for Carolina, and wala!!! Haters are going to hate...it's what they do. So keep on with the 8-8 predictions and how we won't make the playoffs, I'll just make popcorn and wait for the season, as I always do.
