fansince78
We do know that they were frustrated with MM and they will be free to comment after the press conference tomorrow. Most players would tow the company line, but Roddy and Gonzo may give us a true perspective of how the players feel about it.

DLed couldn't come up with anything, he literally just gave Koetter credit for Boise State beating UGA. The problem with this move was that it is so typical of this organization, that I didn't want to think we'd do something this stupid. I could be totally wrong about this guy, but there is ZERO accomplishments of this guy that gives me any hope, in a week where thats all I really needed. Just some sign that we are going in the right direction, and we turn to a Jacksonville Jaguar reject. I'll admit I'm wrong happily if we succeed next year, and that means at least a NFC championship game appearance. I say that because I think the talent on this team could make any OC look good. The fact is, we could've hired any bum off the street, and people are going to say they trust TD and Smith. I'm sorry, but Smith's coaching has been horrible this year, and TD letting this guy get hired really makes me question him. Not scoring an offensive point in the playoffs has really made me lose faith in this staff. The presser gave me hope, and this took all of that away. If we don't make it to the playoffs or one and done then this will be considered a bad hire. Anything less that success in the playoffs is unacceptable at this point in time. The Falcon Jedi Knight
At this point I dont even really care. Its almost comical to me. Cant wait to see what garbage we hire for DC. My money is on Del Rio.Whats funny is all this speculation that the Jaguars were possibly going to move to another city. Theyre moving to Atlanta

LmaoBut seriously, you don't have to like it or not. I don't really care. All I am asking is who else was an option. I see us hiring Koetter as two things: TD, Smitty, Blank, and Ryan must have liked him a lot to not have an interview w/ Clements or the Packers didn't grant us permission to interview Clements so we went with the best remaining option. Yes he doesn't have a good record to go off from JAX. But we wanted our OC gone, who had 40+ wins the last 4 years and most recently had the 10th ranked offense in the NFL. So clearly record and rank doesn't tell the whole story here or MM would have been retained. The reason I am comfortable with the hire (not happy, but comfortable) is because I know TD won't get his butt fired for Smitty's loyalty and the article with Koetter's interview about the passing game. When compared to the crap we got from MM when his playcalling was questioned, Koetter sounded like he knew a crapload about the passing game and the production he got from MJD shows he won't ignore the running game. We all will see soon enough. I think this hire will surprise a lot of us, including us optimistic. I know this isn't a knee jerk reaction coming from a poster like you so I am not worried, as you have more logic to your caution with this hiring, it's the other annoying posters

One thing you will notice about the playoff teams, is they all have great coaches, the ones with the best coaches are still playing, the ones with good coaches put up a fight, and the ones with no coaching scored 2 points and hire new bums......we gave jax our OC and took theirs from them when we had a good offense and they had none......how does that make sense? vel
McCarthy led the 32nd ranked 49ers with Alex Smith at the helm. Payton had his playcalling duties stripped by Jim Fassel due to poor performance. The bumps in the road allowed them to see what went wrong and correct them.
