From Wiki -

Koetter was the head coach at Highland High School for two seasons (1983–1984) before becoming a full-time college assistant coach. His college coaching career began in 1985 as the offensive coordinator at San Francisco State University. He then coached at UTEP (1986–1988), Missouri (1989–1993), Boston College (1994–1995), and Oregon (1996–1997).

Koetter was the head coach for three seasons at Boise State from 1998–2000, before moving to Arizona State in 2001. His record with the Broncos was 26–10 (.722), with two Big West Conference titles and two bowl victories. At Arizona State, Koetter compiled a 40–34 record, and four winning seasons in six years. Under Koetter, the Sun Devils became known for a vertical passing attack. He held a 1–11 record against top 10 teams, and was 2–19 against ranked teams. On November 26, 2006, The Arizona Republic reported that Koetter was being terminated as ASU football coach.[1] His final game was the 2006 Hawaii Bowl on Christmas Eve, a 41–24 loss.

In 2007, Koetter accepted the position of offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL. In his first season with the Jaguars, the offense improved from tenth in the league (338.9 yards per game) to seventh (357.4 yards per game). Koetter has been instrumental in the development of Jaguars offensive players Maurice Jones-Drew, Mike Sims-Walker, and Marcedes Lewis. Koetter was named, in addition to his duties as offensive coordinator, as the team's quarterbacks coach on November 30, 2011, with the firing of wide receivers coach Johnny Cox and the switch of quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard to wide receivers coach.

I am so underwhelmed. Certainly the Falcons see or know something about this guy that we don't. Sigh.

So what your saying is that this guy will suck because at Arizona State, which has never had elite teams in it's history, was bad against perrenial top 10 teams like USC, Oregon, Oklahoma, and Nebraska?

You do realize how ******** that arguement is don't you?

Although I am very disappointed with the hire check out these numbers:

CLE 1991 6 10 0 .375 3rd in AFC Central - - - - CLE 1992 7 9 0 .438 3rd in AFC Central - - - - CLE 1993 7 9 0 .438 3rd in AFC Central - - - - CLE 1994 11 5 0 .688 2nd in AFC Central 1 1 .500 Lost to Pittsburgh Steelers in AFC Divisional Game CLE 1995 5 11 0 .313 4th in AFC Central - - - -

These are Belichek's numbers as a head coach before New England. I know it is an OC and it is Belicheck. The point is that the fact is NE hired a coach with a downright poor record and no one could have ever had an idea he would turn it on its ear. Who knows maybe this will be the right time and place for Koetter.

Give him a chance **** are yall really falcons fans or what

Real fans are not content with bad hires and get exceptionally pissed off when they could have gotten a better coach. This hire instills no confidence in the fanbase after two straight seasons of playoff humiliations and just promises to be more of the same, overly conservative, uncreative offense that we've come to loathe. Like I've said before, now they better hit a home run with the DC hire because otherwise this is nothing more than a sinking ship that Smitty is the captain of.

Guys, let's give the man the BOTD, he knows his stuff and he has said multiple times he wants to attack and be aggressive.

The man has never had the personell, the Jags best WR this year was Mike Thomas, after that they were using Taylor Price and Kasim Osgood, those guys had a total of 92 combined receptions in their career, while using a rookie QB, with a terrible RT.

Here he will have Roddy White, Julio Jones, and Matt Ryan as well as Tony G.

Let's not forget he had Blaine Gabbert starting!!

First staff meeting:

Smitty: Hi Koett, welcome to Atlanta. Excited to be here?

Koettner: Yeah Mike, I really am. Who wouldn't be excited to work with the weapons this team has? I'm really excited to try out some things Jack wouldn't let me do in Jacksonville. I have a whole part of my playbook that was nev....

Smitty: Uh Koett, we won't be needing that crap here either.....Turner up the middle, 6 yard curls.....That's what we do.

Koettner: (Sighs).

To be fair this fanbase wouldn't been happy unless we got Mike McCarthy as OC and Resurrected Jim Johnson to be our DC.

Bullsheet.....

Huge oversimplification.

oh WOW

in his 1st 2 years Mike Smith brought these Jax DEF players

G. Jackson, Gilbert, Fudge, Peterson, B. Williams,

plus 2 PS players Myles and Strickland

Does Hiring the Jax OC mean the Falcons are going to now bring in a bunch of ex Jag OFF players?

thank you! real fans are tired of being mediocre. not saying koetter won't be good but i don't see how anyone in their right minds can be jumping for joy right now.

real fans are tired of seeing teams like the texans, niners, cardinals, saints, packers, etc. pass us by in the post season while we sit in neutral

I have to be honest, although I so much do believe in giving this guy a chance, I do have to admit my true feelings. I for the first time started to doubt if Mike Smith is the guy and then I had to ask myself the same thing about TD. Hmmmmm.... No doubt they are pros and who am I besides a fan? Lets hope I am wrong and this guy is an excellent hire.
