About Going To More Man-To-Man Next Year.

I don't know if I'm overthinking this or what, but a lot of people are insisting that we will be moving to more man-to-man coverage next year. Makes sense with a new DC coming in, sure. However what I don't understand is how Grimes isn't as critical because of this, or how he wouldn't have been as good as he is now.

Am I missing something here? Why would our best CB be less important if we move to man? Wouldn't he be even more valuable?

Grimes does not have the physical build to jam receivers off the line of scrimmage. They haven't been using Dunta right either because of the scheme.

That's exactly it. Grimes was the best in the system at the time, but that wouldn't be the case if the new DC wants to be more physical. (e.g., Brent Grimes wouldn't be covering Calvin Johnson in strictly man coverage.)

Because every off-season all we do is speculate and pretend we, as fans, know what the sam helll we're talking about.

1. No one has hinted at a move toward a change in base defense;

2. No one knows if Brent Grimes can play as a pure man CB; what proof do they have if our foundation has been zone?

3. I don't know how long you've been here, but fans on AFMB do this EVERY off-season.

I agree dunta is not a cover 2 and 3 corner he a man defender...same reason Nnamdi got exposed this year they werent playing to his strengths

If I am paying Dunta and Asomugha what they are making, they better be what the sam helll I want them to be; otherwise, I will pay them according to their limited, one-dimensional, one trick pony skill set. And to hink Aso was once discussed among the best corners in the league. The best corners in the league are well-rounded.

1. New perspectives on scheme and scheme changes was hinted several times during the season ending press conference by all three guys. Yeah, it was never said directly but you had to read between the lines. Plus, guys like Spags and Mike Nolan(that have been linked as the top two guys on our list so far) aren't gonna come here to run a soft zone scheme. They would come here to change things up to the "attacking, aggressive" defense TD wants.

lol if you think man to man is going to help Dunta ...he is getting passed his prime ..He moves his hips terrible

Just cause he is physcial doesnt mean he is more suited to play man ..Only a great dline can hide Dunta poor coverage skills and once we go MAN ...Get ready for days of Chris Houston getting beat down the sidelines by Steve Smith and Colston
