Nono
I am tired of seeing threads that criticize the fanbase---put a good product on the field and it is proven we will fill the seats and buy your merc. This isn't Greenbay or some other boring town where there is nothing else to do except talk or go to the football game.Fix the playoff product----this board is full of willing ticket buyers. And for the record we can question anyone from Coach Smith, TD or Matt Ryan
Guest Gritz
Exactly. It's like blaming the patrons of a restaurant for the horrendous food being served and the crappy atmosphere. The patrons didn't buy the groceries, hire the chefs, cook the food, determine the menu, etc....and yet it's still somehow their fault that the restaurant blows?Only an idiot come come to a conclusion like that....I think it actually shows a smart fan base if the support for a marginal product is spotty....Who continues to go to a crappy restaurant? newgafatboy
10-4, how can someone from outside Atlanta tell us how we're suppose to feel about our teams. they dont know what we've been thru over 40 years, **** until now we had a owner that didn't care if we won a game or not, so why should we. i think Arthur care about the team, and us the fans. and i think he will eventually have a team that competes every single year, and will eventually have his ring. The Falcons get panned in the media by many outlets. The o-line gets scoured in the media for so-called "dirty play". Dunta Robinson is coined a "dirty player". The Thrashers leave for Canada. The Braves utterly collapse at the end of the season and miss post-season play. And even being the so-called "college sports town" that it claims to be, even both of their major college teams, UGA and GA Tech bit the big ones in their bowl games.Every sports team in the area needs a shot in the arm. To get respect you have to win consistently and, in the end, win big. When that happens, the fans will come.

Trouble
Image family of the new cords god forbid may actually join here to see what the fans are like. That is gonna be a shocker.90% hating on everyone and everything and the other 9% hating on the 90%.The last 1% that stays positive and talks about football. Threads get washed away off the front page by 20 page threads hating on everyone.
Aftermath
Spot on Nono, people like to act like fans of a team owe them their unwavering loyalty, but that just isn't the case. The team has to earn the loyalty of the fans, the fans do not have to earn the success of a professional team, they are paid to succeed, by us, the fans. Frankly I'm a bit surprised that any sports franchise has been able to make a profit in Atlanta with such as history of failure. I think it speaks to the loyalty of the fans that the Braves, Hawks and Falcons are still here. Granted, the stadiums may no be full on game day, but its hard to fill up a stadium with a team that is, or likely will be (Braves) a complete disappointment.People like to rag on bandwagon fans because they are late to the part and are only drawn in by success but bandwagon fans are what teams rely on to sell merchandise, tickets etc... If it was just the small fraction of us die hard fans that keep the team afloat there would be no reason for them to make an effort to get better and succeed since most of us would watch/ go to the games anyway. Band wagoners might be easy to criticize, but they, not the die hard fans, are the ones that keep professional teams honest and constantly searching for success. Atlsport
There is an indescribable level of stupidity required to make that "problem with the fanbase" argument, but despite that there seems to be no shortage of those who will wear the dunce cap and remind everyone of just how stupid they can be.Watching football is supposed to be entertaining. Watching your team lay down and get trampled isn't entertaining at all. When the football is bad, people leave the stadium or turn of the TV. If your team is good then people will attend and watch, which is why we've had so many consecutive years of sell outs and locally televised games - after eons of black-outs.Blaming the fans is about as lame as the idea behind the kiddie ethnic jokes about falling out of the tree while raking leaves. Apparently people really can be that stupid.

That is so sad to look at and think it's reality. You look at a state like NY, CA, PA and they have enough to start their own trophy store. That is just sad as an Atlanta fan, and resident. NewFalcon
Agree 100% that it's NEVER the fault of the fans when their favorite team fails to meet expectations. We don't control the draft, free agent acquisition, practices, coaching/development, game-plan preparation, game management or performance by the players. To suggest that 'Poor Fan base' is in any way a contributing factor in mediocre team performance is just....stupid.When your collective professional sports teams have ONE championship to show for all of their collective years of competition, the collective fan base has a right to be jaded and skeptical about expectations and (although they are always full of hope for the team they love) they become resigned to the disappointment and general mediocrity of playoff performances. Those of us who are loyal fans continue to have great expectations followed by great disappointment--and before you know if, we've become the epitome of Einstein's definition of insanity! The 'homers' can cling to/rave about the consecutive number of DIVISION championships won by the Braves, but the fact is that except for one time...they continue to disappoint during the playoffs. The 'homers' can cling to/rave about four consecutive winning seasons, but the fact is that the Falcons continue to disappoint during the playoffs. The Hawks fans can rave about....ahhhhh....nothing really. Permanent disappointment here. The Thrashers fans can rave about.....ahhhhh...wait...did we have a hockey team here???Bottom line: When a franchise can establish a consistent tradition of winning its division AND consistently appearing in post-season play AND consistently winning playoff games AND winning a championship every now and then, the fans will pack the stadiums because they have something real to believe in, instead of that Chicago Cubs mentality of "wait 'till next year"
