Offensive Philosophy Might Not Change

Recommended Posts

Yeah his system did great with the Lions and Bears... Not.

His system worked with St Louis because they had Orlando Pace and even then his system has pass plays that take a long time to develop.

His system exposes the QB to lots of punishment.

Wether it be Martz or somebody else.

The point is that TD and Smitty need a guy to come

in and take charge of our Offense.

It goes without saying that if aren't going to change the offensive philosophy then you better dayum well find a way to make it more consistently effective.......especially against the better defenses in the league.

This article really just further depresses me about the Falcons....it smacks of being stubborn and inflexible.....and stupidly arrogant.

The 1970s called and they want their offense back... dry.png

I have no problem with running the football. That said, you have to look at your division rival and realize that you are going to aggressively put up points and not simply play "keep away" from Drew Brees.

If we promote Bratkowski, or go with a Brian Schottenheimer, Dirk Koetter type, I'm going to be a much harsher critic of mike Smith and Thomas Dimitroff.

We need to be look toward the Patriots, Packers, and (blecch) Ain'ts in terms of getting our offense where it needs to be. Not at freaking Jags or Jets. The rules aren't going to change and bring back the 1970s. Evolve or die.

^^^^ This. Well said as usual Paulitik.

Nothing wrong with running the ball. I have no problem with running. It's just that the smash mouth days of primarily running the football are over. The Saints run, the Pats run, the Packers run. Even pass heavy teams run the ball. I'm not saying we need to turn into the those teams but we DO need to develop and scheme for far more success in the passing game. We need to exploit defenses through the air. We need to create opportunities for our guys to get YAC yards. We need to develop a screen game. We need to be more creative and use ALL of our weapons. The teams like the Saints, Packers, and Patriots take care of business on offense. We need to start to with the weapons we have. Sure, TD needs to upgrade LT, RG, and possibly C, but a good OC will make up for the lack of OL talent by using his other talent to sort of "mask" his OL's deficiencies. MM didn't do that with this team. He continually ran the ball to set up the pass. His idea of an explosive play was to make his WR run a go route and let Matt throw it up. Absolutely no creativity in that. Dude was clueless on how to confuse and exploit other teams' defenses.

I'm hoping we bring in a OC who doesn't have the old school mentality that MM has. We need someone creative, innovative, and sort of crazy(in a good way) to coordinate this offense. I don't want to hear other teams saying they JUST respect us but DON'T fear us(see Jason Cole 790 the zone interview). I want our offense to be feared. Heck, with Julio, Harry, Roddy, Tony, Turner, and Jacquizz, it doesn't exactly take a freaking genius to figure out how to make your offense consistently chug out points week after week. You just gotta design plays that will give THEM the opportunity to make a play. Because believe me, they can.

Yet another outstanding post.

What I'm seeing is that if we want to be this passing offense where we spread the field and throw 40 times a game then u need athletic oline that can run screen pass and can pass block longer than 2.5 seconds to hold up. If we want a scrambling qb like a Ben or tebow then oline doesn't have to be great just have to get a more athletic qb. Since we not getting rid of Matt might as well start upgrading the oline and stand tall in the pocket and be more like Tom Brady. What makes drew and aaron so good is that they have oline that can pass block and plus they are more athletic than Matt. I would like us to get pass blocking oline that can run out in the flats so we can run those screenplays. That's why we don't run screen plays bc of that reason.

No identity, no discernible direction....

It's obvious that our hated rivals, the Saints, are waaaay ahead of us and I don't see an easy/quick solution. It's not a stretch to say they have better players and a better coach. The proof is in the pudding, folks, as much as the pudding reeks.

I have given the matter great thought since you made that comment the other day.

If we un cork the running game with some better schemes, along with a MONSTER RG,

you may be surprised to find that we are not that far apart.

Look back at the Saints rushing plays and blocking schemes.

You will be hard pressed to find much difference between those

and the one's that made players like Jackson (Rams) and Peterson (Vikes).

This sentence shows a commitment to a change in philosophy. The Falcons didn't believe that either was necessary in 2011.

Yeah but,....doesn't every team both run and throw the football every game? What's he saying? Run more? Throw more? Both? What?

I don't believe the Falcons knew WHAT they wanted to do in 2011 and my fear is they are STILL scratching their heads.

It ain't no secret that the Saints have a far better o-line than we do, and that ain't the only category where they reign supreme.

Once they got past the point of the ball being snapped, they really were at a loss as to what they should do and when. When a play worked well, you saw it once during the game. When a play didn't go anywhere, it was try, try again.

Well on that we agree 100%

If Smitty will stay out of the way.

Smitty's job it to present to the OC what the opponents defense does best.

The OC's Job is to present to Smitty a plan of Attack.

Same thing on the other side of the ball.

To this point it has been this.

Plan A. Turner up the middle.

Plan B. Turner Off Left Tackle.

Plan C. Waggle

Plan D. Confuse them by running one play to the right.

Matt Ryan passed the BALL 41 times in playoff game folks...he passed for a 4.9 YPA

all that needs to be said..

Offensive philpsohy is HIDING Matt Ryan weakness

Or the offensive philosophy IS the problem. GIVE IT A REST. We know how you and a few other feel.

But you MUST know, right, that TD isn't going to give up on Ryan any time soon. He WILL be our QB next year and the year after that, etc, etc-- not matter how many times you say you don't want it to be so.
