Dunta Robinson Haters

Recommended Posts

I had to post this first, i was going to make a topic to discuss changes next year but i keep seeing all of u idiots talking about how bad dunta is all the time. Well Dunta should not go any dam where, also chris owens is getting better so stop hating on him also Franks is coming into his own after replacing grimes. Our defensive back field is not as bad as u think it is. Now back to Dunta.

BVG never used Dunta correctly, hes not deion sanders obviously hes not here to take picks to the house hes here to shut down WRs, he played zone most of the tim he has been here he needs to be jamming WRs at the line, not saying he's not a zone corner but he is not a zone corner in today's NFL. In the 80s and 90s he could be an all pro in the zone, he lights people up no doubt but what do u expect when he lights people up and gets fined and suspended for it? He can't play zone in todays "u gotta let me catch the ball and start running before u can tackle me" nfl. Dude could be a force if the old school rules were still intact, u think ronnie lott would be an all pro today? no bc he would not be allowed to do all the **** he did that made him an all pro. Dunta is a physical corner and now with BVG gone hopefully who ever comes in will use him correctly. Zone coverage today is only good for interceptions bc knockin the ball loose is now extinct.

I'm real hopeful that Dunta can turn it around and at least justify some of that huge contract we're giving him with a new D coordinator coming in. Look what a new scheme did for Chris Houston. As much as we bag him, Robinson is still twice the corner he was.

This kind of approach always gives birth to a free exchange of ideas.

My problem with him is that when he gets beat and the WR is running towards the inside beating him, he shows no effort at all. The Nicks TD for example. DRob had blown his assignment but then proceeds to jog after Nicks. Once Nicks broke free, DRob tries, poorly, to make a last ditch effort and missed. If he was hustling, he would have made the play.

I really fear that both he and Ray Edwards are suffering from:

I still can't figure out why he ran in the opposite direction of where Hakeem Nicks was going on that one 70+ yard TD. Everyone else stayed with their man and he just ran away from the receiver when no one else was on that side of the field.

I wondered to myself if for one second he forgot he was not playing zone cuz thats what it looked like.

I think (hope) we will all be surprised next year, IF we get a DC that runs more man coverage. That's what Robinson played in Houston, shame on TD for thinking he would be able to mesh in BVG's scheme. Zone coverages don't work in this new Pass Happy league, its not that difficult for smart QBs to figure out where one zone ends and the next one begins.

You know your a horrible corner when..............

Everyone is in man coverage and your the only one playing zone. unsure.png

The way I see it... Owens wasn't in man either, he clearly released the WR to the SS. Franks blew it on that one, as he stayed on Cruz rather than playing his spot. The LBs were showing blitz pre-snap and dropped back into zone coverage... it looks like they are in man, because they were staying with Giants players who were running through their zones.

I took a bunch of heat for mentioning this the other night, but there's an article Swift posted from PFT that said the same thing... that Franks was paying too much attention to Cruz, and didn't catch Nicks in his zone.

But wait, Owens was the worst CB on the roster. Lol

He sure did come up big in the playoffs. He had the best game, CB wise, on our defense. DRob was ok to below average as usual. Franks had some brain farts.

I totally agree that he has shown very little effort all year, but there were a number of other players that could have and should have been able to make a tackle, or at least slow Nicks down. I have a hard time placing all the blame for that one on one guy.

Yea it's not his fault 100%. But like you said, his effort has been lacking all year. When he gets beat, he looks for others to save him instead of hustling and trying to save himself.

+100 vel....if there was anything positive to take out of the Crapfest that was Sunday's game it was the performance of Chris Owens.

He played like an actual really good starting corner in the NFL.

I was even surprised as one of his biggest advocates. He was in tight position all game and even got away with a slick PI on Nicks. He did get boxed out but kept fighting. I was impressed.

It was good to see Owens have a solid performance, especially considering he got totally abused in the playoffs last year. He took his lumps like a man, and seems to have learner from his past mistakes. However, I still think he's got a long way to go til he's ready to be a real factor on any sort of consistent basis. He took care of business in this game, and surprisingly got away with an obvious P.I. call in the endzone, so hopefully this is the start of better things to come with him. I think it's good we didn't give up on him, but I'm not about to crown him as being worthy of the starting nickel yet either.

Franks has become a solid nickel at this point, but he can't hang for a whole game on the field yet. We needed Grimes out there. Oh, well.
