Not Mad Anymore....uh Oh Falcons

I'm not going to bore anyone with a long, detailed history of how long I have been a diehard Falcon fan. Suffice to say that it's longer than many of you have even been alive.

I just have to say one thing in this thread to the people who run the Atlanta Falcons.

"I ain't mad."

With the way this franchise has both historically and currently "crapped the bed" whenever the Big Game or Big Moment has been put on our docket, I have come to both expect, anticipate and almost bemusedly accept that we will spectacularly fall short.

I'm not a "mad genius" like TD supposedly is so I can't sit here and write out a long prescription for what needs to immediately happen to reenergize this team and correct our many obvious shortcomings.

There have been Falcon games over the past decades where the result(s) really bothered me....LA Ram returner LeRoy Irvin's 2 punt returns for touchdowns against the Falcons in an early 1980's game made a houseguest leave my apartment because I turned into a raving a-hole.

After last year's debacle in the Green Bay playoff Bed Crapping I didn't sleep at all. I thought I had learned a lesson, but I hadn't.

I slept like a baby last night Falcons......and if you care about your fans as much as I believe you should.....that ought to concern you.

Yeah, I slept like a baby as well. I have become immune to games like this over the years. In the back of my mind for 30+ years now, I have hope that we can win. But in the front, I already know what is gonna happen. But as the Falcons motto has been over the years, maybe next year.

I think TD will soon step up and make sure there will be changes around here, because he isn't content with this kind of performance either.. Frankly, I think he is pissed, and that heads will roll so he can put some level of expectations on the coaching staff, to avoid these kinds of bed-crappings in the future..

TD's decisions from here will have a huge impact on the future of the team, but I think he will do everything he can to make sure that this kind of performance is no longer the norm for this team! And i trust him with that responsibility.

I agree with you, it's the same thing every year. It seems like every big game I sit down to watch the Falcons play, there is a fan beside me rooting for the other team, people say they're fans of the other team but when you live in Georgia it is so so sad that the people living here can't root for the team that plays for that state because you know what's gonna happen. The only thing I can think that would make it better is some major offseason changes. I wouldn't even know where to begin, but I'd like to see some changes to at least make me feel like they're trying to compete. At this point though, I'm wishing we would have never made the playoffs this year, we couldn't handle it.

Im hurt . As a long suffering fan this hurt . Its hurt more then last year game cause I knee Rodgers was special . This loss hurt me bad . Now there are worse things in life health of familiy , your health ever decreasin economy society as a whole but this is the 1 thing i keep coming back to is Falcons football . it pains me to see guys who make good money as coordinators or players that dont earn there pay check shows me there is no care on their side

we the fans care more then players , front office and even Blank

we the fans that will be miserable for months to come what we need to do get better blah blah blah

do we need new rb, new OC whatever , new QB we care

The players and management go home to their Million dollar mansions

ferraris and move on from the loss already

we the fans suffer.. All Falcon fans ask is for 1 Super Bowl and most fans will take that and live out rest of their life . Falcons football is suppose to be a getaway from other distrsctions and problem with LIFE

I'm seriously considering my options as far as the money I spend going to the games. Without sitting down and putting it on pen and paper, I'd guess I spend 5,000.00 per year (possibly more), on the games.

Let's just say 5000. That's a nice cruise, a used vehicle, home improvements, the new workshop I want, etc.

I can still watch the games on TV. I'd still be a fan.

Experiencing such a letdown season after season you would think I would be used to it.

Still stings.

Still shaking my head.

Still embarrassed.

Still want to see at least one Lombardi in my life time. It's the one thing on my "bucket list" that matters the most.

Totally get what you're saying and agree.

I have to say though that I really don't expect this team to win it all in my lifetime.

I work out every day (run 3 miles) to try and give the Falcons a chance to prove me wrong but I ain't Steve Austin or Chuck Norris.

Yeah well for us newer fans with only a decade under our belts it hurts bad and I didn't sleep a wink!

I still have the taste of bile in my mouth and I am steamed at this Franchise!

I sure as **** will not be buying anymore gear for my family and I seriously am considering not renewing my season tickets!

Why the **** should I be committed when the team isn't? And those who think Smitty is okay well that's the problem he's just okay!

Seriously, 4th and inches and no running back? Driving before the half and they can't call a timeout?

screw'em!

Appreciate your passion and anger brother.....Been there and done that but the Falcons have weaned it out of me.

Stay mad....maybe someone at Flowery Branch will get the message.

Well, I had ZERO confidence that Falcons could win before the game even started. Even with my Falcon doubt, the Falcons proceeded to exceed my doubt expectactations.

Falcons have mostly always lost the big games, but over the last four years - now we are getting "blown out" in the big games......in some ways we are going in reverse.

The talent has gotten better since 2008 but the results are getting worse. What does that say to you guys?........to me, its coaching. I'm not saying that Matt Ryan does not deserve blame - HE DOES.....I'm not saying that Roddy White and his 2-3 drops does not deserve blame - HE DOES....I'm not saying the poor offensive line play does not deserve blame - THEY DO.

I'm saying that the Falcons "parts" are greater than the "sum of the whole". I'm saying that this team plays mostly with a "passive" mind set. Sure Falcons go for it on 4th down sometimes - but when they do - they are STUPID play calls. How could Mike Smith not have learned his lesson after Saints home loss about trying to run the ball behind our interior O-Line after that debacle? Matt Ryan is not a good QB sneaker - McClure/Hawley get no push, etc. I mean, its just stupid.....then, after it does not work the first time in the Giants playoff game - he proceeds to do it again - that my friends is the definition of INSANITY.

This team needs a different mindset - it starts with the head coach - Mike Smith is not getting fired and I'm not calling for him to be fired - but Mike Smith has to look in the mirror - realize that changes need to be made - and they should start with his philosophies - he needs to be AGGRESSIVE and surround himself with aggressive coordinators.

Mike Mularkey should be fired.

BVG - i'm on the fence about him - if we could upgrade him, I would. Mike Smith needs to stay out of the defense as well.

This team needs a new perspective - it will start with coaching. It will start with Mike Smith. If Smith refuses to make changes - then his job should be in jeopardy after 2012 season if team does not improve.

I'm not mad either. The Falcons absorbed all football-anger I could muster over the decades.

There's a new clarity for me:

It's just football. If I can't get happy when they win (because they don't), I certainly won't let them get me down when they lose (because they do). I love the Falcons and hope they do well, but I don't like the Stockholm Syndrome.

Right there with ya, Gritz ('cept for the sleeping part; I didn't get much).

You know, I somewhat agree with the spirit of this post, but one thing resonates with me. Someone has to lose the big game. I know it's annoying that it seems to always be the falcons, but look at the nature of the game and even some of the big teams out there like the Steelers. Yea, they have won a couple of super bowls, but losing to Denver after losing in the Super bowl? Not comparing our team to theirs, just saying their fans have to be pretty upset too. We have come a long way in 4 years, and I am not trying to lessen the impact of the game yesterday. It was terrible, but our franchise is still pretty young. Right now I will take being competitive and having winning seasons over what we use to have. I would love a couple of super bowls and I think we will get them soon.

I guess I have never lost sleep from a sporting event of any kind, so maybe I'm a bad judge on this topic.

I went ahead and started preparing for the worse when we couldn't get anything off of the free kick and the Giants ran it back down our throats to score. Sown 17 to 2 I turned the TV off and got some work done. In past years I would have steamed for days but it just rolled right off this time, not sure how I feel about that. Part of me is saying "there is always next year" while the other part is saying "lol, you stupid."

Yeah I hate sounding cliché but when it comes to the Falcons it truly is what it is at this point. My husband got a promotion and his job is sending him to Denver so we're outta here in June. I won't bother renewing my tickets because it won't be worth the travel cost so I won't have the financial investment in the Falcons. This team can continue to be stuck in mediocrity and look up as the Saints, Packers and Giants continue to pass them by. I'll by the Direct TV Sunday Ticket, root at home and wait for the Falcons to finally get it.

Yep, welcome to the reality. This team is like a tease, will get you all worked up, only to let you down when it really counts.

Fire (TD)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The real problem is you could put MM, BVG or heck, even MS there, and they're still problems we need to get addressed. One person's head rolling doesn't fix this. It just starts the process. I am on the fire MM bandwagon, and I have an eye on the fire BVG bandwagon as well. I think Smith gets 2-3 more years with new coordinators unless we have two years of terrible, then he's gone.

I've been a Falcon fan since 1973. Pretty much seen it all with this team, most of it bordering on miserable. I was a season ticket holder in the Atlanta Stadium days. I was in the joint in '84, the day an 0-13 Colts team came into our house and humiliated the birds, and Dan Henning blamed everyone but himself. Years later, I was in the dome, subjected to the sickness of seeing a former quarterback (whose name I won't dignify) take a victory lap after whipping us in '97- I think. So I've felt every emotion people can describe when it comes to the Falcons.

The strangest thing to me in all this is, when I look back at the days when they lost almost every week, it was actually more fun to be a fan. You didn't expect much from them and some times they managed to pull off a huge win, even. These days, though, it sucks to be a fan because the Falcons are just good enough to give you hope. And when that hope is squashed (most of the time under the eyes of the entire nation), it's a much bigger letdown than it used to be when they were supposed to be a bad football team. See, it's easier to watch a bad team play bad than to watch a good team play terrible, as happened yesterday.

Back then, you showed up to tailgate, went inside and drank bad draft beer and watched bad football. But you enjoyed it. Nowadays, you show up, tailgate, go inside, and wait to be disappointed. And looking to the future, the only thing you know you won't see anytime soon is a Lombardi trophy. Next year, we can count on another 10 wins. And probably nothing more. Kinda sad.

Give me 1 magical season like in 98' to 4 years of what were going through now

I dont care if were 3-13 , 4-12

98' season was magical

That team heart and will outweighs the players we have on team now

That was a football team . No where near the talent we have today but they played together

Great post octoslash

I really am starting to believe that "the process" has given the head honchos at Flowery Branch bad tunnel vision.....so bad that they may be incapable of significantly improving this team in the short run or gauging the dwindling fan interest in their product.

They need to seriously pull their collective heads out of their butts and see what's happening.

Agree Gritz

But I also think they are now dumb founded . They have no answers

They will reevalaute things and give all the political responses and talk bout improving to be a contender but they are in over there head

Ryan and TD did good job getting boat at to sea

Now this boat is sailing out to sea and nowhere to go . We can change parts in boat

but will that make huge difference . It might but it can also put the crack in boat and start the sinking ship

we are stuck in limbo

good football team will beat lesser opps and be relevant
