We Have A Problem Uniting Our Fanbase...why?

Before I hit on that, a quick story which I can tie into the unite part. Plus its just something that was ridiculous...

I was driving by the Georgia dome about 2 weeks ago. I was in the Duluth area to watch the Nutcracker ballet with the woman. Well, we decided to drive down to Atlanta to look at the Dome, aquarium etc. Well, we get passed the dome, and Im happy, shes happy we are carrying on and talking etc etc. And we soon pass 50 shopping carts. That was an eye opener. Couldn't believe how close it was to the dome. So we are at a red light...then this bum, I guess he was a bum. Comes up 5 foot away from my car and starts threatening to take us out of the car and kill us. I don't know if it was because we were a. a young white couple laughing and smiling in the wrong setting in town? I guess thats forsaken. b. My falcons plate tag, falcons dice, falcons license plate, falcons gear etc on my nice Mustang which I clearly don't deserve apparently, or c. is the wrong part of town, which was literally 4 minutes away from the dome. In the middle of this, Im just staring off not listening to this ish talker, because thats all people do. But the problem with this is...if I had a family with kids, I would not dare take my family anywhere in Atlanta. I've been a fan of the Falcons my whole life, and I'm one of those die hard fans that tells it like it is. I love the organization and the people that run it, because they are what I consider men. But if you look at the city itself, and the lack of fan power at home games...you know its a problem. I didn't see one falcons fan at the Giant's game on TV today. Thats crazy! And at the home games the fans are beyond dead. Then we have these fans on here that absolutely know nothing about the organization and bash and call for heads of the superiors like they know something. Come on...Lets be real about the game today. MM is a terrible offensive play-caller. But we have a serious issue trying to unite our fans. We fight more within ourselves then most fan bases. I don't post on here very often anymore because most of the "fans" are garbage but the true fans need to band together.

what will uniting us do? we dont take the field and stink it up every big game.you want a strong fan base? need a tradition of winning. atlanta is use to falling short so it will take a championship to get that kind of team pride established. the superdome was freaking empty and benson was tryign to move the team before katrina hit so its not just us,

Atlanta is a very torn city. Georgia as a whole is worse. It's stuck, it's a cesspool of resentment. Nothing gets done. I miss Atlanta terribly, but my life is exponentially better away from there. The sports teams are the only thing I still hold on to. I'm a Falcon and a Dawg until I die. My curse I guess.

I will agree with you guys. Atlanta is a terrible sports city. With Vick we had star power which attracted fans of a player, but not the team. We have a more solid team, but no true stand out stars that garner the medias attention. I think thats our biggest problem. We are never in the media like the cowboys, packers, patriots, etc. Heck, even Cam and the Panthers are getting more respect. I was just suggesting that it started with the city..and Atlanta is an absolute dump. We need hope

Paragraph breaks please,..... that's all I have to say.

Really? Thats the only constructive thing you have to say? What is a coma followed by multiple dots? You trying to use an ellipsis? I'm not writing an english essay for my professor. This is an online message board. Its not like I was writing in french or spanish and you couldn't read what my post was. Or it was written with slang or someone with a mental retardation.

Paragraph breaks make long rants more inviting to read. Even if I were to disagree with you and your synopsis of the Falcons fan base and/or problems with the Falcons, I would have studied your post a little more seriously if you could have make it easier on my eyes. That's all,... no disrespect.wink.png

Haha. Understandable. I think in my mind i double checked and decided "well...no one reads long paragraphs anyways, but hey, im letting my feelings out" And I decided to post anyways. Ahhhh...the fun of message boards. Reading long rants is boring. I dont blame yaa!

It is hard to be a fan of a team like the Falcons. I have been a huge fan for almost 40 years because I grew up in ATL, but I can understand why the fan base is so bad.

You have to have a high pain tolerance and a lot of loyalty to emotionally associate with such a historically bad team. Nights like last night make me question why I do it to myself.

My Dad grew up in Green Bay, WI and all my relatives are Packers and Bears fans. It would have been easy for me to just change my loyalty to a team that would be a lot more fun to be a fan of.

If the Falcons were as well run as the Packers, I guarantee you we would not have these discussions all the time about our horrible fan base.

i love fans like you. I plan on being a falcon fan till i die no matter what. I still have faith we can get a superbolw in the matt ryan era. And once we get a SB all those hard years we went through will be worth it

All those other teams that travel well have one thing in common a superbowl. I've been a die hard fan for years and I know many die hard fans who stick with this team good or bad. It gets hard for some who get there hopes up only to get there hearts rip out with 3 PLAYOFF LOSE IN FOUR YEARS. Give us the pride in saying Atlanta Falcons Superbowl Champs. so we can mend the wounds of losing all these years.

The easiest way to unite a fan base is to stop crapping the bed. The Saints went from bagheads to darlings because they started winning, and winning big. We are a solid regular season team that feasts on average to below average teams. The moment we step foot in the playoffs, unless we play the #6 seed (O wait wacko.png), nevermind.

Fans love points. We need to start scoring points and blow a few contenders out to show not only the NFL but the fans that the Falcons are for real and serious.

because this team has the Atlanta Braves feel to it. Good in the regular season choke in the playoff. You can only take so many after so much time and money invested in a team. We would at least of made it to one nfc champ game and even a super bowl appearance. For example right now for the next Braves season I will not go to one game until they win past the division round. I'm done with good enough. Right now the Falcons are good enough. I will take a Vick any day over Ryan. I am really getting upset I bought his $75 dollar jersey.

This is what is wrong with the fanbase right here. You get "fans" who feel they are owed something. So they sit back and say "well they aren't getting MY money, because i'm not seeing results now." I'm not comparing the two statistically because it's just not true, but Peyton Manning didn't win a playoff game until his 4th trip to the playoffs. I highly doubt the Colts fans were calling for him to be let go because he was "average".

Please, do not go to any Braves games. Do not watch them, do not comment on them, just stay the **** away. We don't want fairweather fans like you putting a bad name on the logical Braves fans who will stand by the team regardless. You are nothing more than a mindless troll. Of course you would take Vick over Ryan any day. So would at least 70% of the city of Atlanta. If you want to cheer for Vick, go be an Eagles fan (you probably already are).

LOL you know TEBOW got his first playoff win yesterday. Tebow does not have the talent Ryan has BUT HE HAS HEART. I HAVE NOT SEEN A FIERY RYAN SINCE HIS FIRST TWO SEASONS. Crap look how he slides when he scrambles. Like a **** girl. TAKE A HIT RYAN CRAP Brees went straight up on a defender in the Lions game.

Tebow also has an Offensive Coordinator with a **** brain as well.

It's hilarious how they point to other QBs who have playoff wins but don't look at the scheme. Those guys built a brand new scheme in a week for Tebow and won with it. MM can't even seem to draw up a game's worth of new plays in a week, let alone a new scheme.

I agree with everything you say accept the Vick part, Vick's team did not even make the playoffs this year. In 2005 and 2006 Vick gave up on our team and he failed to lead them to winning seasons and of course no playoffs.

Ryan has never just flat out given up on our team he fights and comes back from beatings because our o-line is not good enough.

Ryan is the least of our problems and will be part of the solution to playoff wins.

Well it's certainly has nothing to do with the city; Atlanta fought hard to keep the Thrashers.

It certainly has nothing to do with Atlanta having almost no African Ameircan middle class (really poor or really rich).

Let's rule out White Flight in the 70's and Black Flight in the 2000's to the suburbs, because that's not the problem.

Even though we're a city not manipulated by geography (mountains, ocean, rivers), let's put Turner Field right next to AFCS in the hood (and NEVER BUILD A MARTA STOP THERE), and move the Dome a whopping 2 blocks over.

I remember when the Dome was first built, there were crack needles everywhere in the gulch. It's the same today.

Know what the dome area is when the Falcons aren't playing? It's a drug hangout constantly policed (I live three blocks from the dome).

Atlanta is divided racially (don't let the "Too busy to hate" moniker fool you lol), financially (ghettos next to mansions), locally (1 out of 5, and that's pushing it, people living in Atlanta are from Atlanta Source: Creative Loafing). To put the icing on the cake, the team never wins.

Actually, the icing on the cake is not, not winning; it's getting CREMATED in the playoffs. Want to divide a fanbase? Score 2 points in the playoffs.

Tell a divided people that we're "looking to get explosive" after being blown out by GB at home, and then score 2 points against a #32 ranked D in the playoffs.

You can't say anything to 'divide' the fanbase because you consistently suck. The irony is that losing like this does unite the fanbase. The drawback is the fanbase gets smaller. Your die-hards are always going to be there, but most people just occasionally watch an Atlanta team and don't care if they win.

If you don't care if the Falcons win, you don't care about others that do. 45 years of failure have set that precedent.

Ryan is NOT MANNING. I don't care for Vick and I'm glad he is gone. I just want someone who can win the big game. Vick won the big games WHILE FIGHTING DOGS and not even focused. I would take TEBOW over Ryan.... **** I would take TJ. YATES. You got to be kidding me I have been a braves fan for 20+ years and been to over 80 games and 5 playoffs. Fairweather my *** hole. A fan base gets upset when management just cares about wining regular season games and ALWAYS CHOKES.

please just GTFO. You are so incredibly stupid, I don't know how you can even carry on a conversation of relevance at this point. I don't care that you've been to 80 games and 5 playoffs. Touch yourself and be proud dude. That doesn't make you more of a fan than anyone else. Don't worry about the Braves. We don't need a fairweather fan like you around. if you want to be a fan, you be a fan through the good times and the bad. Don't sit there and insult this team when losing and then come back when we start winning going "ZOMG WE ARE THE GREATEST TEAM IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES!!!"

This is so true. Blank needs to take this team to the next level now or he'll start seeing a lot more empty seats. He needs to get sombody in here with fire, passion, and some freakin creativity. Note to Mr. Blank; empty seats=empty revenue!

some of yall are pansies and need to get over it. so we got our arse whooped in the playoffs. get better and make a run next year. there are 20 teams at min. worse than we are. they have stronger fan base than we are. i am more embarrassed of our fans than the team sometimes. i would take raiders, browns, colts, texans, miami fans over ours anyday.

Could not figure out how to quote you, but let me say this...

You did not see the Falcons Fans on TV because they did not show us. We were there!!!!

Not only did we fly in just for the game, but we were represented by the local Falcon fans as well.

I am VERY disappointed. So disappointed that I have avoided online articles, the news, papers and everything since leaving the Meadowlands Sunday. But at the end of the day, I am a FALCON fan! I am a season ticket holder (that is renewing) and has attended every playoff game since purchasing my tickets 10 years ago.

GO FALCONS! RISE UP! or whatever the heck they come up with next...I'm all IN!!!

#1 Lady Falcon Fan!!!

Simply put, alot of "fans" liked Vick better than they did the team. Then you have those who only like the Falcons if they are winning. To me, if you didn't stick it out through the Harrington/Petrino fiasco or were one of those blessed souls cheering on Vick when he was scoring on us then I don't want to be united with you.
