Tandy Gossett
So I sit down and start reading the boards while drink'n a RedBull and Boom it hits me.We have got to upgrade our Secondary. Moore is Awesome, Grimes is Awesome, DeCoud actually isn't too bad. (Going to flame on me for saying that) He's better than most is what I'm saying. Dunta Robinson isn't great so saying that what would you do to "Upgrade" the Secondary? Before going forward I want to say this. DLine play plays more into Secondary than most people realize. It's a two part team, and LBs play a role as well. That being said this is how "I" would fix our Passing Defensive woes.Keep BVG unless we get Spags. Smitty order BVG to play more Man Coverage, that would be made possible by getting more pressure on the QB.Sign GrimeTimeSign James SandersSign HaydenIf Possible Sign Carlos Rogers.Secondary Depth ChartCBs - GrimeTime/Rogers/Franks/HaydenSafeties - William Moore/Dunta Robinson/James SandersDL and LBsSign Abe if we can get him cheapSign 1 FA DE (Mario Williams "LB" -Robert Mathis-Avril) Which will take over for Abe in a year or so, Edwards platoons with Abe. Edwards takes over as Starter if he improves in 2012.Sign LoftonSign Peterson as Depth/Coaching role (I think he's a FA, Sorry if not)Sign Barrett Ruud or Manny Lawson as Depth/Spot StarterCut Jerry, and sign Jason Jones unless they feel confident that he will be better in 2012.LBs - Spoon/Lofton/Nicholas/Ruud or LawsonDEs - Abe/Mathis, Williams, or Avril/Edwards/SidburyDL - Peters/Babs/Jerry or Jason Jones.Just what I'm thinking. Not sure of $Cap#s but if possible that would be a Sick Defense. We have to Draft well, and IF we get Brandon Boykin then we can pass on Rogers. We can spend our Draft Picks on OL, and DL, with 1 spent on RB, or CB/S if we don't sign a top tier FreeAgent. He gets a lot of heat around here that he doesn't really deserve. I think the lack of a pass rush has a lot more to do with our secondary problems than the actual secondary does. But I would like to see us play a little more man and closer up on the receiver...
k-train
Sounds good but you forgot about that thing called REALITY.It is so far beyond possible to re-sign our own FAs, other FAs you listed, and draft picks with our cap situation. Also, Dunta is not going to be moved to safety just because a 31 year old Carlos Rogers could theoretically come here. I too have tossed the idea around, but it would take getting someone like Asante Samuels to make it happen... and he's not coming here either. Aftermath
Moving Dunta to Safety isn't a good idea IMO, his contract is too large, we wont be able to sign all of those players unless we cut Dunta or someone else. Also doubtful that we get another high profile DE and keep Abe (how cheap is cheap? he will prolly want around 7 Million), too much money on that line already for the type of performance they are getting. Add another big name and we could handicap ourselves for years. I dont know about the Carlos rogers signing either, isn't he approaching 31? I realize he is a big name, but we would probably be better served getting a guy like Finnegan. From what I'm seeing and the amount of players you have us signing we will either have to sign draft picks or upgrade the O-line (a more pressing need imo). If we sign any more big name FA's this year I would prefer that they were on the O-Line. The last few big names we brought in on D haven't panned out yet, can't afford to keep sinking more money into a lemon.

I am aware that Cutting Dunta would cost us Cap room for a player that we would be cutting and that would leave us one more player to have to sign inorder to fill Dunta's spot, and no cap room to do so. That's why I moved him to Safety and let DeCoud walk, Instead of paying DeCoud I would spend that money on bringing in a CB, LB, and DL player. I also said this is what I would do which means this would be my "Dream Team" and there for it would be "Farfetched". I do know that we WILL have to sign more FAs than normal since we will have holes to fill w/ our FAs leaving and not many draft picks to refill the roster. I don't know why he gets bashed so bad here. My only issue with him is he takes bad angles sometimes which get him out of position to make a play but it's getting better. Dunte isn't as bad as ppl make him either. A lot of times he tries to make up for Moore biting on the inside receiver and it may look like it's on him. Problems of zone coverage. I think Jerry should get one more year. It takes some guys 2 years to come back from a major knee injury. Same with Edwards. I'd really like to see Ray and Abe just stay on the field and let them get in a groove. That rotation can cool guys off. Ray didnt come out the game much in Minny. Same can be said for Jerry. Maybe the rotation is his problem as well. His first year he was looking like a beast before he got hurt.

I do know that we WILL have to sign more FAs than normal since we will have holes to fill w/ our FAs leaving and not many draft picks to refill the roster.DeCoud is only making 500k this season. He has been bad in coverage & an inconsistent tackler, so there isn't much reason to think his next contract will be for too terribly much more... maybe 1.5-2 mil/year... so even letting him go isn't going to save you any significant amount of money.I'm pretty sure we would take a decent hit to the cap if we tried to can Dunta or Edwards, so it would also be counterproductive to get rid of those guys. Drafting & developing guys like Spoon, Lofton, Moore, Peters, Franks seems to be the way to go on defense, because as was pointed out earlier, we have invested a ton of money in FAs on that side of the ball, without getting the production we should.Carlos Rogers was a guy I wanted to bring in before this season, so he could be our nickel CB. However, after having a great year in SF as a starter, he is going to want to get paid. We have to keep Dunta. We have to keep Grimes. There is no chance we could afford another top tier CB without sacrificing other areas of bigger concern... like the Eagles did this season. Hayden has shown he just cannot stay healthy, so I'd be very surprised if he's brought back, especially as Franks has come around lately.I like the idea of Abe getting a one or two year deal if we can't spend the money on a replacement, but we can't afford both. If we can get Williams for 8-10 mil/year, fine... if not, we need to bring back Abe & try to find a replacement again the next year.

His first year he was looking like a beast before he got hurt.No Doubt. Jerry was "Breast Mode'n" it out there to begin. Injury and it all went away. Could be that he's lost confidence in his leg, and or still working through the injury. Rotation does make sense too. I hate watching teams w/ multiple QBs because once one gets grooving and moving the chains they kill his momentum by swapping out QBs. I never thought about that w/ position players but it could very well be. I would love to see what type of stats Abe could put up if he were to play EVERY DOWN! Scary huh? Get his mojo working and sit back and watch. Sid has been buried in the platoon and when he's on the field for a few downs he shines. I'm excited to see what we have for the Gnats Sunday! TheFatboi
Thomas Dimitroff's job is no longer safe. Why's that? He'll be ok at least a few more years. AB knows it doesn't happen over night. And he's seen more consistent winning since he hired the new regime. Just time to win a playoff game. That's coming tho. And I think the secondary is a reflection of the pass rush in this bend but don't break scheme. I can't see AB firing TD this soon when he's been building nicely. It took Peyton 7 years to win a SB and he started 0-3 in the playoffs. We're ok. If anything we need more killer instinct on the edge type players to bring an attitude here.
