Tallahassee
Weigh in on this ages old debate: would you rather be heading into the playoffs with1.) a dominate D with a sputtering offense, or2.) an explosive offense with a defense that couldn't stop a pop-warner squad?Which wins championships? Peyton
Mostly it is teams with great offenses and opportunistic defenses that win championships these days.
Borat
Explosive Offense and "hot at the right time defense" or vice versa.

Mega Flare
Mostly it is teams with great offenses and opportunistic defenses that win championships these days.Exactly. But the answer was different in the 70's.
T.Mays
Mostly it is teams with great offenses and opportunistic defenses that win championships these days. 100% agreed. A couple of turnovers with a great offense can mean a blowout.

Due to the rule changes a defense cant impose they will as they use to. Now you just want that explosive O with a D that cant get you some turnovers he and there. swift
you have 2 of the worst ranked defenses playing in playoffs..what Peyton said ..explosive offense with a defense that either causes turnovers or gets sacks
PokerSteve
An explosive offense until we get a couple TDs lead, then a ball-hawking, shut-down defense that grabs three or four Pick-sixes vs Eli.
Trouble
Sapp or Dukes said it best. The NFL rule changes favor the passing game to much now. D gives teams a chance to win but its the O that wins it for you.
norbendon
Thanks to the new Arena League...I meant NFL rules, it's a top notch arial attack with opportunistic defense.
kiwifalcon
I will say BALANCE one hand feeds the other if you are a pass heavy team and are able to run the ball you become unstoppable.
Jesus
Whatever it takes to get you to the playoffs is one thing. What you do there is another. The pats had a great offense and a lousy D last year and were one and done. The packers were average on both and won it all.
MilleniumFalcon
Last 2 SB Champions: Saints & Packers - both explosive offenses with middle of the pack defenses that were opportunistic and created turnovers. Seems that's the new way to win in the NFL.
Tribal Chief
The way its looking this year, offense will win a championship. 10 years ago it would be defense.
niels petersen
Mostly it is teams with great offenses and opportunistic defenses that win championships these days.Truth!Take a look at this article. It explains why the Packers can dominate, and almost go undefeated even with a pretty bad defense.http://smartfootball...-does-that-meanThe same things can be said for the other teams like the Pats and the Saints, who give up a ton of yards, but make up for it by forcing turnovers that give their offense better field position, while taking an opportunity for points away from their opponent. It kind of gives a little bit of a blueprint for beating them as well, even though it is pretty obvious that committing turnovers will kill you. Not committing turnovers against them are obviously also easier said than done.. Edited January 2, 2012 by niels petersen
IceColdSilence
Any normal time I would take defense over offense. Defense can remain consistent and solid while your offense might cool off. However, this league has had a thing for showing how well an explosive offense backed by only an opportunistic defense can win championships. WHODAT BEAST IN THE CELLAR
the best O ever with a bend but don't break Dthe offense forces teams to score on every possession, and while the D gives up plenty yds, they are mostly empty yds resulting of mostly FGs due to good redzone Dyou are not going to win scoring FGs against TDs

D gives teams a chance to win but its the O that wins it for you. This is so true. In the past it was defense that won you championships. Now you need an elite offense to win championships or a super elite defense like the Steelers or Ravens with a good ball control opportunistic offense. We're a little bit more balanced, so it will be interesting to see how the playoffs play out.

Packers 35 ppg, Saints 34.2 ppg, Patriots 32.1 ppg offensively. All bottom 3 in the NFL for defensive passing yards. Like I said previously, all very similarly built teams.
